First thing's first, where will you be buying your laptop? laugh.gif
From Malaysia right? tongue.gif
There are only a handful of ultrabooks to choose from at the moment, so choosing one won't be hard~

Can consider these (assuming you only want SSD versions only):
13"
HP [Ultrabook] Pavilion dm3-1001TU (Folio 13), i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 128GB SSD@RM2999[1.49kg], W7HP

14"
Toshiba [Ultrabook] Satellite U840-1003U, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000M + 128GB SSD@RM3199[1.7kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, color: silver

so you can choose and determine which laptop is the best for ur budged and spec... biggrin.gif
*
Intel HD3000 is not really capable of gaming now that Intel HD4000 is available... and the GT525M is considered as outdated too..

Apart from the ones with GT630m, can consider this one as well:
HP Pavilion G4-2026TX/2027TX, i3-2350M + AMD HD7670M@RM1999, 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP; colors: black/red

If your friend is not buying in a hurry, you might want to ask him to wait for Ivy Bridge refresh to the A43Sd, probably the A45Vm (i5) nod.gif
Its just a matter of time before they upgrade to i5-3210M hmm.gif

Here are some laptops with equivalent specs:

Got a recommendation on the previous thread to get a Lenovo Y580. Planning to buy next week.  biggrin.gif

Just a question though, is there a Y580 that is 1080p? Thanks!

Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + Bluray@RM3399[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP

1. Preferred Brand : any
2. Budget : RM 2500~3500
3. Usage : Gaming for PCSX2 (PS2 Emulator), Red Alert 3, Civ 5
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : any
*
Unfortunately no..
If you don't mind a weaker GPU, the Asus N56 would be a good choice (if FullHD is what you want nod.gif)
Asus N56ZM-S4079V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920 x 1080) + BluRay@RM3599[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 1TB

Otherwise, top up until around RM3.8k for the Asus G55:
Asus G55VW-S1095V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080)@3999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W7HP

dell inspiron 15R (SE) able to long hour gaming?
*
The Asus G55 and the MSI GE60 were built specifically for gaming and should offer much better cooling systems for prolonged hours of gaming...
The Inspiron 15R is more geared towards multimedia hmm.gif

Both the G55vw and the MSI GE60 are equally good, its best that you go and try out both units (if you can find one tongue.gif) before making the purchase...
But based on what I've seen, the G55 is more conserved in terms of styling, whereas the MSI GE60 is more striking... both comes with 2 years warranty

*update: THe MSI GE60 comes with a larger, and not to mention faster HDD (7200rpm) which will come in handy in shortening load times (not that its a problem if you intend to throw in an SSD though tongue.gif)

QUOTE(einayitis @ Jul 13 2012, 07:07 PM)
1. Preferred Brand : Asus/ Toshiba/ Lenovo. But any recommendation will do.
2. Budget : Less than RM3k. The lesser the better coz I'm thinking on buying extended warranty.
3. Usage: Mainly office works such as extensive photo/video editing (photoshop/premiere), database n multitasking on ms office. Also for watching movies, surfing and a lot of downloading. Occasionally, play games like The Sims 3 etc. lol!
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Prefer 14" and light laptop coz I travel a lot. 15.6" also acceptable as long as it is not too heavy. I'm looking for i7 at first n I've been eyeing for Dell 14r Se (but too many bad reviews for Dell Inspiron) n also Asus N56 n just found out that it is weight 2.7kg.  I prefer chicklet backlit keyboard as well as having graphic card like 2gb maybe? So my current dilemmas are, do I really need i7 n 2gb graphic card? Help me plz and thanks in advance!
*
This one is the best and most powerful 14" laptop around at the moment~
14"
Lenovo
Y480, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2499[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, FreeDOS
Y480, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2799[JBL], 8GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, W7HP, 2 years international warranty

You can use the remaining money to opt for Lenovo's onsite warranty support nod.gif
Its not very heavy, and Lenovo's chicklet keyboards have always been some of the best out there~

Thanks for the recommendation. I think I've heard abt that model. So how abt the screen graphic? does it good? Coz really need a good screen for photo editing.

Yeah, many people are discussing about it tongue.gif
The monitor is only average... you won't be able to get a good performance laptop with good screen for with RM3k unfortunately sad.gif

haha! I know rm3k wont do much. lenovo y480 will be on my list now! Thanks! Actually, I do a lot of heavier stuff on my home desktop pc though. Laptop is for doing work while I travel which is very frequent and bring it sometimes at the office. So the real question is do I really need intel i7 and 2gb graphic? My current laptop is so old already, a lenovo also and really heavy with 15.6" screen. That's why I need something new with lighter weight. Talking abt weight, what do u think about Lenovo u410?
*
U410 is an ultrabook, its running on a ULV processor (which is probably slightly better than your old 15.6" Lenovo in terms of CPU) haha.. but as devour said, it is very light~

ok .. so now narrow into this 4 model.. last year i heard HP DM1 is the best among others. In this year still same ??

So basically all these 4 models same spec, only brand and the window.

Hmm.. base on brand preferences to choose? ?

You are right, they all have the same specifications, so its up to you to choose which one you like the most, which involves going to see them in real life and molesting them brows.gif brows.gif
