Dell Inspiron ones are only white in color XD

Why not delivery to JB? Its not too far I guess? hmm.gif
The GT640M is a big leap from the GT630M oh

I think this one suit you...

ASUS

Most people would prefer laptops with OS.
Those who knows what is FreeDOS would ask for FreeDOS if they really want it to be without OS laugh.gif

Pretty much those unless if you (i) omit the light weight requirement (then a lot of options there); (ii) include 13" (some nice models there too) tongue.gif

True.
In contrast, don't expect excellent after sales service from Asus, and not excellent solid built unit from Dell
*
QUOTE(cslance @ Jul 25 2012, 12:03 PM)
yes. correct. so just think on what you need for and what kind of services you want. hav to consider by yourself.  tongue.gif
*
Not entirely true... it depends on the niche/lines of the laptops involved.
For instance, you can expect top-notch built quality for Dell XPS/Latitude/Precision/Alienware units, whereas less so for budget Inspiron/Vostro etc. units
Same goes to Asus, better built for G/N/B/U series, poorer built for K/A etc units

Every manufacturer (apart from Apple I guess) has different laptop lines tongue.gif

The HP is currently the only one running on Ivy Bridge processor. Not that you'll notice much differences if you're only using it for normal stuffs nod.gif
I would recommend the Vostro 3450 over the others because of the faster HDD speed, program load times would be shorter, leading to a faster computing experience

However, do take note that the Vostro 3450 runs on W7 Home Basic instead of Home Premium ya.

couldnt make up my mind :/ anyone heard any additional comments (that will likely make me make my mind) on this 3 models excluding spec on paper?

price about the same, ram 4gb and 6gb wont bring big diff, clearly 2 models have btr GPU, 2 models have SSD, on design, i heard M5 is pretty fat compare to the other 2 (vaio S is magnesium somemore) CPU no big difference but ULV ones will provide more battery life (big advantage)
*
Tough choice there bro laugh.gif
The UX32 is definitely out because of the weak GPU...
But in between the M5 and the Vaio.. not easy to decide haha tongue.gif

For the Vaio, you can refer here for more details brows.gif Seems pretty awesome~

1. Preferred Brand : Toshiba, other brand fine except acer
2. Budget: RM 3000 with win7 + office
3. Usage: student use, multimedia, gaming, travel
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or lighter

Looking for a laptop which will go to UK for further studies 2 years. As such warranty will be quite important, can provide recommendations for good laptops with win7 and office.

This one would be the best brows.gif
Not exactly very light compared to ultraportable 14 inchers, but it does pack quite a punch! thumbup.gif
Lenovo Y480, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650(GDDR5)@RM2499[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard, FreeDOS, 2 years international warranty

Use the remaining money to buy an OS, get Microsoft Office (Universities usually offer for free), and extend warranty to 3 years...

Of course, you can consider buying there a well nod.gif

QUOTE(ik3da @ Jul 26 2012, 12:00 PM)
Yo guys, need advice again. This time, it is a new laptop for my girl.

1. Preferred Brand: Nothing in mind but requires something trustable, this is a office laptop purchase.
2. Budget: Not more than RM5000.
3. Usage: Word docs, minor code compilation/development.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: No specific laptop/screensize yet. Needs to be light and easy to carry around for a small-sized lady. I am thinking of a high-end ultrabook but friends have recommended of looking at MacbookAir instead.

Good warranty/coverage is preferred as well.
*
Good warranty, then this:
Dell
13"
[Ultrabook] XPS13, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 128GB SSD@RM3499[1.36kg], 4GB, external optical drive
[Ultrabook] XPS13, i5-2467M + Intel HD3000 + 256GB SSD@RM4399[1.36kg], 4GB, external optical drive

*but do take note that these XPS 13 are only running on the older Sandy Bridge platform, not Ivy Bridge. If you would prefer newer technology (and that compatibility issues are not a problem), then can consider the MBA 13 priced at RM3699.

Either the Dell or MBA, do opt for 3 years warranty @RM799

Haha, thanks TJ - you are as fast as usual lol.

Quick question, the Asus Zenbooks not recommended? I am interested with the MBA also but only concern is, my girl only used XP/Win7 all the while - not sure if it is a good/worthwhile choice to buy a MBA and install Win7 on it. Need to get something that will last at least 3-5 years (if possible) for her.
*
Nah, getting old, not that fast anymore hehe
God lee_what2004 was the fastest laugh.gif

Well, like you said you could always install Windows too in the MBA brows.gif
ZenBook is very nice to be honest, especially the ZenBook prime with the awesome FullHD IPS screen~ But then you said you wanted good warranty support, Asus is unfortunately not excelling in that particular aspect sad.gif

Actually, I mentioned of good warranty support was just in case that it kaput and I need to bring it in for servicing. Especially the fact that this is a purchase sponsored by her company, she will have a hard time explaining to the boss if her laptop breaks down and I can't get people to fix it, haha.

If you have the choice, which one will you shoot for? MBA? Zenbook? XPS? Or any other ultrabook?
*
I understand what you mean. Dell and Apple would be the best in this case, where the former will involve on-site servicing (within 1-2 working days) + complete cover. Apple involves carry-in and complete cover.

For other manufacturers, you need to carry-in, opt for pick up... and depending on the severity of the problem, might take up to 2 months for repairs. This will result in quite a lot of loss... hmm.gif

Many are (including me) because its relatively cheaper, and the screen is really tempting brows.gif
But for most people, its better to have good warranty support I guess sad.gif

Well i read on net the chipset for the N56VZ is Intel HM76 while the chipset for the A45VM is Intel HM65. Im not a pro on comp but i have read the differences between the two on wiki and it look like Intel HM76 is newer and better(?). Not sure if this chipset info shown on net is accurate and if it will have a big impact on the laptop performance?
*
Not sure about the chipset, but I don't think you'll see much of a difference in laptops? hmm.gif
