Can use setcpu. No need other kernels
*
I tried setcpu, but the minimum CPU speed is only 300MHz. Cannot go lower edi. Besides, there is no voltage control, which means CM9 stock kernel does not support UV. Is horsepower kernel good? smile.gif

Also, in setcpu, there is something called I/O scheduler. it has noop, cfq and deadline. What do they mean? setcpu's website does not offer any explanation on this.

Once again, thanks a lot for all the info! smile.gif

Can UV. Why u set your cpu speed so low,  want your phone to hang izit? tongue.gif

There is a thread on xda that explain all these stuff.

Hehe, no la. It's just that I want to squeeze every single drop out of my battery. Gonna do more research on horsepower kernel. Alright, I checked that already. Thanks!

I'm on CM9, stock kernel now. If i flash Horsepower kernel, then what do i do when I want to flash the latest nightly? Will it cause any problems? or will flashing the latest nightly overwrite the horsepower kernel?

What is horsepower kernel? Yes flashing new rom will overwrite kernel.

That is G version kernel. If it match your device then ok. No problem until you reflash rom.

Can't u just direct the app to scan your music folder. What u mean mount.  What rom u using now? Jb or ics.
*
I'm a G user. Now you got me confused. No problem until I re flash rom? Means once I re flash rom, the kernel will be overwritten, right? That's what I understand smile.gif so there won't be any problem after flashing new rom, except that it will be using the stock rom kernel.

Hi all, i just got myself a S2 and still pretty new to the android world. I was trying to search for rooting information's from the web as well as the first post of this topic but somehow i'm kindda lost.

The thing is,  my current baseband is  XXLQ6 and the details i can find that comes close to this is the XXLQ5 ..i am on the ICS 4.0.4 , was wondering if anyone is under the same baseband as i am and would be able to share the rooting informations with me? Thanks in advance all @_@

edited : My Build Number is XWLPT

I think you have to take note of whether your phone is G version (I9100G) or non-G version (I9100) as well.

AH.....Just thought i'd share my success, took a gamble & manage to Root the phone with the  CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LQ5-v5.6-CWM5.zip . Seems to be okay for now smile.gif
*
If it can reboot and you can see Superuser icon, means you now have root access and your phone is okay!! Congrats !

can we dual boot ics n JB?

Yes. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680851

Sifus, I just realised that the guide (link above) is for I9100.

A few questions.

Is it possible to dual boot on I9100G as well?

Is Siyah Kernel 4.0 compatible with my G version.

Also, I'm on cm9 nightly 3rd august. After I flash cm9 nightly 6 august, can i delete the 3rd august nightly zip file from my phone?

I just another problem with cm10. In settings> performance , no-frills cpu control and cpu tweaks, I set my max cpu speed as 300mhz and min speed as 150 mhz. then i locked my phone. when i unlocked it (after it went to deep sleep), it seems that the settings for cpu speed had been reset and my max speed is 1.2 ghz. why is this happening? This only happens AFTER i unlock my phone.

does it have something to do with the horsepower kernel i'm using? it worked perfectly on cm9 before this.

**EDIT: It seems that every time after I lock and unlock, my CPU speed settings are reset to min 300mhz and max 1.2ghz. Reflashed cm9 + horsepower kernel now and problem solved. was really close to jumping ship =/

Recently, I flashed CM10 to my I9100G. It seems that I'm unable to lock the CPU frequency. I checked the XDA forums and found this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...774541&page=113

To solve it, codeworkx said,
adb root
adb shell rm /system/lib/hw/power.t1.so
adb reboot

Question 1: Does this step means using the terminal emulator?

Also, the user with this problem then said,
Had to remount /system as rw first, but it now runs

Question 2: What does he mean by remount?

Hope sifus can help smile.gif Thanks!

What will happen if I flash Siyah kernel to my I9100G? I heard it's incompatible, but i'm curious to know what will happen.

flashing 1.97a now, bvefore using aokp ICS, almost no lag at all.  biggrin.gif

flashed 1.97a, played with ui, flightly smoother than rr jb, but when closing app the transition still got micro lag  laugh.gif

i know i know i yim zim ba bai  laugh.gif  laugh.gif  icon_idea.gif

edit 3 : hey, the rom will reboot by itself occasionally, like when i restore apps, it'll appear boot screen and the whole thing will start again. doh.gif maybe its thre kernel so now i download siyah 4.0

edit 4 : flashed siyah 4.0.1 still reboot by itself. now restoring via nandroid  doh.gif  but paranoid very smooth, almost NO lag at all!  thumbup.gif  i might wait for a more stable version
*
hmm, when you guys say a ROM is smooth, is your cpu speed running on normal frequency? As in, you don't set the maximum or minimum frequency.

transition ui no lag
