If cost is a major factor - you should look at other IPTS as well~
MSU is the first IPTS to set-up biomedical degree program in early 2003 and their faculty of Health Science has been strong ever since, Govt. Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) are also trained there~ So, experience-wise, MSU has the upper hand... I graduated from there @ end of 2007 - later I joined MBBS program~ http://www.msu.edu.my/v7/fhls/bbiomed.php ...back then MSU is known as KUTPM, and it cost me around RM36 thousand +/- for the entire program, I'm not sure about the latest fee for the program. Nowadays many IPTS apart from the ones you mentioned have started-up their own biomedical program (some goes by the name Medical Labotarory Science degree - syllabus-wise, almost the same), eg: - UTAR: http://www.utar.edu.my/fs/index.jsp?fcatid...&fcontentid=838 - MAHSA: http://www.mahsa.edu.my/faculties/allied-h...dical-sciences/ - UNISEL: http://www.unisel.edu.my/prospective-stude...programmes.html - Masterskill: http://amu.edu.my/MASTERSKILL%20WEBSITE/pr...cBiomedical.php The following threads are some info on biomedical program in Education Essentials: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/873882/all http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1779392/all http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=40486422 This post has been edited by CyberSetan: Jul 7 2012, 02:45 PM |

However, he's not a GP yet even after 8 years. To qualify in GP, we still need to undergo 2 years housemenship together with another 2 years of government medical officer. Then, there is a 3 years registrar training for GP. (Correct me if I'm wrong) |

There's exemption of the first year (or 1st and 2nd- I cant remember) for the MBBS. |

Unfortunately, I dont have any idea which University should i choose. Can give some opinion? MONASH University is ranked #1 in Australia and the top 50 in the world for 22 subjects. Now, you just need to check if the Biomedical course is whether or not one of the 22 subject. You can ask Farmer_C as well. |

So, are the Biomedical Engineering programs offered on demand like selling hot cakes in Malaysia, just to train the sales personnel? |

Which university/college offering this course btw? There's tons of programmes offered out there claiming that it is in demand but the fact is, it is not. Not in Malaysia that is. Same goes with Biomedical Engineering. Most of them ended up in the sales line. Not to say that it is offered just to train them for sales, but I'm sure you know well that the research and development field for biomedical-related is still far behind in Malaysia. Also, with the kind of mentality we have "our product can never be as good as the foreign ones", who would want to purchase your equipment? Grass is definitely greener out there when it comes to this field. This post has been edited by LoveMeNot: Aug 1 2013, 02:55 PM |

Also look at the subjects u're learning from and see the other subjects offered by other colleges especially out of malaysia , aka us and uk ,
they have a different approach to education, plus, you get to work 20 hours a week , make decent living and hang out with giagin there. nowadays colleges / unis only offer knowledge , when u really need is practical experience + working experience. just a thought ! |

Salary-wise is quite pathetic. Unless you want to stay there, then yeah, you'll earn better. OR, you intend to go into the academic line and planning to further your study right up to PhD; then yeah, still worth it.they have a different approach to education, plus, you get to work 20 hours a week , make decent living and hang out with giagin there. nowadays colleges / unis only offer knowledge , when u really need is practical experience + working experience. just a thought ! |

Thanks alot for the listed universities There's actually 3 different courses within the same field of Biology as what you have stated (1) biomedical (2) biotech (3) engineering-electronic related. I came from (1). I used to work in the hospital and I have seen these people doing follow up in the laboratory once in a while. They could be a biomedical grad, biotech or bio engineering. I've tons of friends working as a sales personnel in the pharmaceutical industry. From what I can conclude generally, there's limited job available for the bio-industry. Even if there is, the pay sucks.University of Malaya (UM) Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering (BBEng) http://www.um.edu.my/mainpage.php?module=M...&id=543&papar=1 Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering (Prosthetics & Orthotics) http://www.um.edu.my/mainpage.php?module=M...&id=544&papar=1 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Bachelor of Engineering (Bio-Medical) http://www.biomedical.utm.my/V1/index.php?...id=54&Itemid=63 Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) Bachelors of Electronic Engineering (Medical Electronic) with Honours http://www.uthm.edu.my/v2/content/view/86/96/lang,en/ Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Biomedical Electronic http://mechatronic.unimap.edu.my/index.php...ical-electronic The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) Bachelor of Science (Hons) Biomedical Sciences http://www.nottingham.edu.my/Study/Undergr...%28Hons%29.aspx Taylor's University Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) http://www.taylors.edu.my/en/university/sc...al_science_hons Sunway University Bachelor of Science (Hons) Medical Biotechnology http://sunway.edu.my/university/fst/med-biotech Multimedia University (MMU) Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) But honestly, tell me, out of the thousands grad in this field, how many can actually have this "luck"? Do you have such amount of time to work on the research till you manage to get it market? If money is not your concern, by all means go ahead and spend all your time in the research. In the end, it all goes back to the individual I guess. Anyway, this is only my personal opinion and observation. |
