You can design whatever you want. The question is, can it sell well in Malaysia? I'm sure you don't see Made in Malaysia test kits or equipments in your lab, right?

He's asking about the DEMAND anyway. Definitely no demand. We are still lagging behind.
Good point! smile.gif Naturally to laymen, Biomedical Engineers are employed by health services, medical equipment manufacturers and research institutes to research, design and develop medical products for clients with special needs in a rehabilitation setting, or managing the use of clinical equipment in hospitals and the community.

So, are the Biomedical Engineering programs offered on demand like selling hot cakes in Malaysia, just to train the sales personnel? icon_question.gif

hmm.gif I was talking about Biomedical Science. I do know quite well the market-like for this course. But if its biomedical engineering, I'm not sure. All I can see is sales personnel coming over to the lab checking on machines and stuff.

Which university/college offering this course btw?

There's tons of programmes offered out there claiming that it is in demand but the fact is, it is not. Not in Malaysia that is. Same goes with Biomedical Engineering. Most of them ended up in the sales line. Not to say that it is offered just to train them for sales, but I'm sure you know well that the research and development field for biomedical-related is still far behind in Malaysia. Also, with the kind of mentality we have "our product can never be as good as the foreign ones", who would want to purchase your equipment? Grass is definitely greener out there when it comes to this field.

Also look at the subjects u're learning from and see the other subjects offered by other colleges especially out of malaysia , aka us and uk ,
they have a different approach to education, plus, you get to work 20 hours a week , make decent living and hang out with giagin there. tongue.gif
nowadays colleges / unis only offer knowledge , when u really need is practical experience + working experience.
just a thought !

honestly speaking, it doesn't matter anymore because at the end of the day, IF you gonna come back to Malaysia to work in the biomed field, it's a waste of money to study overseas. Salary-wise is quite pathetic. Unless you want to stay there, then yeah, you'll earn better. OR, you intend to go into the academic line and planning to further your study right up to PhD; then yeah, still worth it.

You are working in the Biomedical sector and the list below could be incomplete. Are these Biomedical-related courses on hot demand in Malaysian market? icon_question.gif So far, I haven't seen the sales personnel is listed as one of Biomedical Engineering job prospects.

This isn't entirely true because one of my Malaysian acquaintances named Adi (25+ yo), has invented a Multifunction Disposable Safety Syringe, called AD Syringe (AD = “Auto-Disable”). This product is marketed by Selia-Tek Medical Sdn Bhd, and currently sold in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Middle East under the brand called “SOL-JECT® AD Syringe”. This patent-pending product is filed under World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) with Pub. No. [WO/2013/009166]. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks alot for the listed universities There's actually 3 different courses within the same field of Biology as what you have stated (1) biomedical (2) biotech (3) engineering-electronic related. I came from (1). I used to work in the hospital and I have seen these people doing follow up in the laboratory once in a while. They could be a biomedical grad, biotech or bio engineering. I've tons of friends working as a sales personnel in the pharmaceutical industry. From what I can conclude generally, there's limited job available for the bio-industry. Even if there is, the pay sucks.

That friend of yours is one in a million (just a figure of speech here). He's lucky to have his invention successfully sold. But honestly, tell me, out of the thousands grad in this field, how many can actually have this "luck"? Do you have such amount of time to work on the research till you manage to get it market? If money is not your concern, by all means go ahead and spend all your time in the research. In the end, it all goes back to the individual I guess. Anyway, this is only my personal opinion and observation.
