no i cannot have long rj11 cable from living room to bedroom...

i live with my parent and they may trip and fall

rj11 cable is not a solution
*
i did not say to lay down unorganised on the floor..
u nailed it to the wall nicely..then it will be zero harm..
i'm living with my parents also..& i have networking at home..cables everywhere.
so to prevent tripping n unnecessary hazard, we nailed on the wall nicely.. icon_rolleyes.gif

understand, but still do not like that solution via RJ11... somemore too long for me... what is the maximum length?

not good at nailing etc, really

any other possibility?

if rj11 the only solution, most probably will cancel my installation

someone said in Thread1 can be done... not sure if it's meant for landed properties only... high rise can do or not?
*
so far as i know of, the RJ11 is the only solution coz no homeplug for RJ11 in the market currently

If you insist putting in your room.
Better get RJ11 yourself. You can request them but tambah $$$ la.
Counted as non-standard installation.
Or you find yourself a contractor pull the telephone into your room lo.
As they calculate the cable length ma. 85:15 you can read faq. You bring measuring tape go measure yourself. Lol.
*
85:15 is only applicable to landed houses

QUOTE(danieltay @ Jul 4 2012, 10:34 AM)
ha? so complicated!

can shift telephone port one ah?

how much to pay?

where got time? next monday my installation wo
*
you want it to be in a COMPLICATED WAY, that is what u will get...
i had suggested to lay down cables, you dont want vmad.gif , that is the cheapest option as 10m RJ11 or rj45 cost no more than rm50, where as if you want to put additional rj11 port in ur house, will cost up to 4 figures!! doh.gif
think wisely! vmad.gif mad.gif

i thought you already have streamyx in your home bro, how come you don't mind leaving the streamyx modem in the living room but you insist on having the maxis modem in your room?

how have you been connecting your pc to your streamyx all this while? i thought you're not using wifi?
*
QUOTE(danieltay @ Jul 4 2012, 10:52 AM)
yes, streamyx modem is at my bedroom lah, connected directly to my pc

i use wifi at living room... mainly for my ipad

for the phone, i've pull a long telephone cable from bedroom to living room
*
QUOTE(zDarkForceSz @ Jul 4 2012, 10:57 AM)
Since the modem is at your room. Maxis one shouldn't be a problem right.
*
QUOTE(jetwash @ Jul 4 2012, 10:57 AM)

yes still using the thomson router coz need the voip service.

using it 24/7. only once a week do manual reboot.

just put a cooler pad below the router and there will be no overheat and it will run fine.
*
yeah..i put a cooling pad also underneath the router coz it gets hot bloody fast!
need to find another 1 for the modem as well.
I use a hub for now coz limited usb ports at the router.

QUOTE(polarzbearz @ Jul 4 2012, 02:00 PM)
laugh.gif Agree. Digged out one old cheapo cooling pad and router becomes much more.. stable.

Anyway, Thomson Router seems to be limited in terms of configuration.. can't find MAC Filtering or I'm missing out things doh.gif

If I want to hard-reset the router, what are the things I need to take note / reconfigure later?

1) Maxis account id
2) Maxis account password (+1 behind)
3) Telephone number.
4) What else? rclxub.gif Appreciate help if I missed out things.. don't wanna screw up things after a hard reset (just in case)
*
the password? how to put the +1?

so you get exact 10Mbps doing speedtest. any improvements? how about access to sites in USA ok ke?

another thing when tm do fiber cabling. you know the value of ?dBm on your fiber line. the highest the value your connection may not be stable in long run. or in optimal state can get 90% speed benchmark.
*
did not have the chance to have a loot at that 1..
did get about 9.2 - 9.6..
but can get 1.25 with IDM smile.gif

for dBm you need to pujuk the tm fellas. nice to them give them drinks. then they tell you hehe..

1.25 is norminal. if you get 10+ below 11. it be slighly >1.25 with IDM.
*
of coz give them drinks..
hospitality from my house: a guest enters, must serve drink..
it should be above 20Db i guess

above 20dBm is ok. you get 90%+ speedtest.

but if above 25dBM, your ONT takes very long to online. tm keep quiet and advice users leave it ON. hehee. while in between u have many many probs. this is classified info.
*
what do u mean by "in between u have many many probs", & in betweem what?
i want to leave it always on..but wifi with my iphone sometimes lagging..
the router is at the centre of the house (top-bottom, front-back), at the stairs
