Anyone excited about this ?

Games On Net

VG 24/7

Total PC Gaming

Computer and Videogames

Guess we'll know probably in 2 weeks times when CA announce the new game at Rezzed on July 7th. Anyway I've got mixed feelings on this though I loved the original Rome though it's because of the mods and not the vanilla games.

The historical representation of the vanilla games is so bad though it games birth to legendary mods like Europa Barbarorum and Rome Total Realism (to name a few). In fact RTR is still being developed to this day though quite slow from what I can see from the dev forum. EB has moved to Med2 engine and knowing EB it wont probably be released in few more years.

Anyway most Total War players know regarding the difficulty regarding to modding with the Warscape engine which is being in use since Empire and has been almost perfected with Shogun 2. I believe the next game will continue to use Warscape as it seems to be a good engine comparing to the old Rome engine which was used on Rome and Medieval II.

My concern will be regarding the historical representation of the time period if Rome II is indeed on the horizon. I do not wish to seeing Flaming Pigs anymore (though they were recorded to use one time around 266 bc IIRC) or German Screeching women. tongue.gif

Certainly I don't want to see Roman families unless it's done to on maybe small campaign (DLC anyone ?) regarding Roman civil war.

I did posted on Total War facebook saying that releasing Rome II will show how uncreative Creative Assembly are but it was deleted soon. icon_idea.gif

I know many people especially Europeans would like to see European setting games but with China is on the rise of pc gaming markets and Europe economic is somewhat crumbling at this moment isn't it wise for CA to go for something new like Chinese Warring States Period for example ?

What do LYN Total War gamers think ?

Me, I would like 7 Warring States as the main game, then 3 Kingdoms period for DLC/expansion.

But Rome again ? Very mixed feeling. Maybe 2014 release but not next year.

Had hoped that they will do China since ages ago - don't understand if there's a conflict to depict China dynasties or they just not interested with China history games? It is really a pity that Koei's Three Kingdoms series are usually very limited to the China/Jap players as well.

@TS: Rome II would be fun to have but do hope they will mix in new game modes/plays (like allowing you to going into first-person mode in battle as the general/King to wreck havor (or to run/hide away) or a bit more customization/variation to the units build tree besides the simplified blacksmith/armorer enhancement). Far-fetched but who say I can't dream, eh?

I think because of their market is mainly US and Europe. But for a TW games I think this will do to generate sales with Chinese market (if they don't crack the game lah ... tongue.gif )

Depends on the time period I guess. I'm already sick to the death of Rome era starting 280-270 bc.

Screw 3 kingdoms. Give me the full glory of the Warring States(or Spring and Autumn) period of China!

Yes. That's what I want for the main game. The 3 kingdoms can come later as DLC/expansion. Add Taiping Rebellion for later on to use new technologies as in FOTS.

LoL - I think quite a lot of US/EU people wouldn't mind whether it is about Chinese dynasties or Japanese shogunates, many just want to conquer the world biggrin.gif I don't mind the era but it will be boring if it ends up being the same story/units/game play with only shinier graphics.

As long they (preferably some big/trust-worthy company) willing to kick start the China storyline, I am willing to throw in money for it. 3KD, Warring States, anything. Just something fresh preferably.

However that being said, I do remember the last time I visit TW forums, there was a vocal demand from the forumers there for a ROME 2 sequel

I just hope that it will be just as fun as Shogun 2 biggrin.gif

I hope the barbarian factions will be more diverse, instead of waiting for another expansion for that.

Punic War and Hanibbal should be emphasized.

Added on June 26, 2012, 3:32 pmMajor improvements they can do is offer more tactical choices on the battlefield, just like the usual stuff during normal war. Burning down the forest, setting blocks, smokes, floods, etc.

I don't think there will be generic barbarian/greek factions anymore. I just hope that you don't have to purchase as DLC if you want to play Arverni or Pergamun for example.

Just imagine if Carthage is only available if you purchase throuh Steam only. tongue.gif

On a second thought I kinda hope that the next game is Rome II so that these europhiles (on TWC etc) found out that modding it will need programming degree to understand binaries instead of simple text base which can be modded with notepad like the old Rome. rclxms.gif

I love Empire total war, at least conceptually. Too bad they botched that one so bad.

True. Rome II is the highest expectation so it will be better to use matured warscape engine rather than gamble with a new one. Don't want Empire repeat. That game was so bad on release and only really really playable (without mods) a year after release.

Of all Total Wars, it is only Empire that I never played. Something bout the naval/EU empires that I am not clicking with - probably too much guns and cannons for me.

Got nearly 700hrs for Empire. tongue.gif Just started playing Napoleon right now though since I'm basically done with Shogun2. Have played all clans in Sengoku, finished 2 campaigns in ROTS and one campaign in FOTS. Taking a break from samurais this couple of weeks.

Maybe CA should also introduce a politics system to reflect the city state nature of the republic. Some cities councils may be more supportive of foreign powers during war, some not and resist. Maybe it should work like religion. icon_rolleyes.gif

Rage if they make certain factions DLC. Haha...

Probably not for the warscape engine. Too complicated for total war masses. tongue.gif

They did this in Shogun2. People will rage but they will buy some more. rclxms.gif I can see it happening though maybe for some minor of no consequence factions on the edge of britain maybe.

As long as there's no 3 roman families I'm okay. Though I'm totally bored with europe. Will still buy any TW games though no matter what.
