You can bring along your laptop to the shop to upgrade it if you not sure what is the frequency of your current RAM inside your laptop. Normally the PC shop provide free install for you.

Hi, are RAMs of different brands compatible with each other? My HP Pavillion G4 currently runs on a 1x2GB DDR3 1333mHz but I'm planning to add in another Asint branded 1x 2GB DDR3 1333 mHz stick. Since I'm not sure what brand of RAM my laptop is using, will it be compatible?

What's timing anyway? My reading from CPU-Z shows DRAM running at 665 MHZ,CAS## blabla bla all at 9 clocks

Hi there. I need help deciding the amount of memory for my PC.

My processor is the AMD Phenom x4 9950 Black Edition. Currently I have 2 sticks of 2gb DDR2-800 (making 4gb dual channel DDR2-800) RAM.

I am thinking of upgrading to Windows 7 x64, and I'm considering adding 2 more sticks, making a total of 4x2gb = 8gb in four slots. Problem is, adding in more RAM will reduce the RAM speed to 667mhz (also disable dual channel mode).

I understand I need to take the processor / FSB numbers to determine the optimum speed of RAM to use, but I don't fully understand how to calculate it, or if it even matters outside of benchmarking.

So can someone with this knowledge tell me, with my current processor (I mostly use it for gaming), will adding in another 4gb be worth the reduction in memory speed? Or should I stick with the 4gb to take advantage of the full 800hmz + dual channel?

Thanks in advance.

I think it would be better if you can make it to 8GB (4 + 4) although for 6GB it would be adequate somehow. smile.gif

Please stop misleading people. 8gb or 6gb config won't work on rest_24 as he is running on 32 bit windows 7.

To run more than 4gb, you need to re-install or rather upgrade your windows into 64bit version

Nope. Almost all apps are able to run in 64 bits. Games do not have problem with 64bit at all (maybe those older game which is in XP era)

Hi,

I have a very old laptop (2003) with a 256MB RAM.
Am thinking of upgrading it but wonder if this type of RAM is still being sold in KL:

512MB (1X512MB) PC2100 NONECC UNBUFFERED 200 PIN DDR SODIMM

user posted image

Need two of them since the maximum this laptop can take is only 1GB.

I'm using a old computer now, and it seems like the new ram i inserted have different hz (Old one 533 and new one 667)

Then it appears that when i insert both ram into the ram slot, sometimes the computer will hang though i adjusted the ram to 533 at bios.

Should i just remove the 533 or adjust more setting (Not sure wat to adjust, ideas?)

Well if not mistaken they still do but it's way overpriced. Suggest that you go garage sale to hunt for used one instead.

Are both rams the same brand? If different brand it will often causes instability.
