i decided to keep the laptop and use it till ASUS has a keyboard in stock to change. I opened a case with them and they ordered the keyboard. once it arrives, i will go and get it changed.

I paid RM3980 (including CC charge) so i am gonne use it instead of leaving it at ASUS centre for repair or a replacement unit.

nope.. wont void warranty.. warranty only will void if you remove the warranty sticker.. the warranty sticker is on the motherboard.. so you are safe to remove the whole casing and still not void the warranty.

have to do fresh install from a windows cd.. not the asus recovery disc.. so the original slot of hdd is now SSD, and the original HDD is now in the caddy..

so sata 1 = SSD, sata 2 = HDD

fresh install will allow you to choose where you want to install the OS to.. Just choose the SSD..

sata II i think.. but no harm getting sata III as when sata III comes to laptop and u decide to get a new laptop, at least u dun need to spend money for another ssd again.. 1 time cost..

the latest air recovery version from asus website.. cant remember the version..

never tried cloning.. i always do a fresh install.. i was only trying to c if ai recovery works on a diff size hdd.. IT DOESNT in my case..

1 issue i read about ssd on laptops is the BSOD.. some installations give BSOD.. luckily for me i do not have this problem yet. *touch wood*.... I using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with sp1..

i did format the hdd.. but just in case, i left the recovery partition on the hdd..

1. click "start" button
2. right click "Computer" and select "Manage"
3. select "Storage" > Disk Management
4. Select the HDD
5. you should be able to c 4 sections. Blank , OS , Data , Recovery Partition
6. select Data, right click, delete volume
7. select OS, right click , extend volume, and follow the instructions on screen.

and voila.. you have only 3 partition left.. Blank, OS, Recovery partition.. just select OS, right click, format..

hopefully this helps.

i have already maxed out my ram at the moment with 4 x 4GB ddr3 1600mhz..

truth be told.. the bottleneck between dual channel ram and single channel ram, IN MY OPINION, is irrelevant to normal users and gamers.. y? will you really feel that 1-3 sec difference in normal usage or gaming? just my opinion on this.. feel free to correct me if i am wrong..

Added on June 29, 2012, 2:28 pmWooT WooT.. finally, running at full speed ahead on my g55 !!!...

Upgrade : 4 x 4gb ddr3 1600mhz , 120gb Corsair force 3, 1tb HDD..

time to diablo !!..

on my ssd, i only install the bare essentials + these programs

1. Microsoft Office
2. Diablo III
3. Kaspersky Internet Security

all other software i install to my HDD.. this way, 120GB is more than enuff..
not all software will require the speed of the ssd.

nope.. Just so all of you know..

WARRANTY IS NOT VOIDED UNLESS YOU REMOVE THE WARRANTY VOID STICKER...

where is this sticker located? its on the heatsink screw covering the cpu and vga.. other than that, you are free to dismantle the whole machine as you like..

that said, make sure you can fix it back !!. dun dismantle anything you cant put back together.. cos although you can bring it back to ASUS service centre to get it done, my guess is your machnie serial number will be flagged.. meaning if in the future if anything goes wrong, they might turn around and say you did it on purpose..

so if you really wan to maximise your ram :
1. please do so carefully ( i use a video camera to record how i dismantle so that i will know how to assemble it back )
2. go to asus service centre to get it done.

i dismantled this myself because, i used to work in a laptop service centre.. and i have always repaired all of my laptops by myself.. i juz purchase the parts outside..

You have been warned.

also.. from experience..the gaming series notebooks and the lamboghini is the hardest to dismantle and assemble.. reason being , some models have a hidden screw where you need to know where to look before you see it.. becarefull...

with my level of experience, it took me 1 hr to actually dismantle the whole top case.. there are hidden clips around the casing that you have to becareful wit.. cos if they break, you might have a gap in the casing..

Added on June 29, 2012, 2:42 pmdvd rom is the easiest.. remove the back casing ( the 1 covering the hdd and ram).. there you will c a screw labelled as "ODD" remove that and the DVD drive comes out
