- compiled by siuyi - tested and certified usable on a THORUS set.
1) Download this zip (xperia-pro-root-recovery.zip - 11MB):
http://www.mediafire.com/?vp2zw9wmzh2wbx02) Extract the zip to desktop and name it 'xroot'.
3) Open the folder and copy the file 'RootXperia.zip' to your phone's SD card, create a folder named 'downloads' and paste it there.
4) Download this Stock-based kernel (boot.zip)(Rooted with CWM Recovery + Handy Shortcut during Startup):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment...85&d=1321907423source:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=13570265) Extract the boot.zip, and copy boot.img into the 'xroot' folder on desktop.
------------------------------------
++ To unlock bootloader, refer the link below:
http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/i) read the important information by SE and click 'start unlocking the bootloader' button at below.
ii) stop at step 7 by copying down the code and direct jump to step 11 (unlock button for MK16i is MENU button).
iii) for step 13, If Windows asks you to install the drivers, install the driver from the folder “Fastboot Driver” in the folder you downloaded in (1).
iv) for step 14, open command prompt and change the directory by keying in 'cd C:\Documents and Settings\[your pc name]\Desktop\xroot' . After that, refer step 15 and 16.
Done. bootloader unlocked.
------------------------------------
WARNING!! YOUR XPERIA PRO WILL BE FLASHED THOROUGHLY LIKE A NEW UNIT ONCE ROOTED. BACKUP ALL INFO FROM YOUR UNIT INTO YOUR SDCARD OR PC TO AVOID UNWANTED CASES!!
------------------------------------
4) Put the phone into fastboot mode:
i) Power off the phone and make sure it’s not plugged into anything.
ii) Hold down the MENU button and connect the USB cable. A blue light will appear at the notification led.
**If a blue light does NOT appear, then your phone can't get into FastBoot, and probably still has the bootloader locked. You can also try a different USB port on the computer, and even a different USB cable.
5) Double click the dos batch file 'Root-Xperia-PRO.bat' in the 'xroot' folder on your desktop.
6) A dos window will open temporarily for a few seconds, and close. you might not even see it it's so fast. Wait for around 3-5 seconds.
7) Look at your phone's screen. You should have an orange colored recovery menu, which is the CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.4 application running.
**Slide open the keyboard: The up and down buttons move the selection up and down. the Enter button selects something. the BACK button goes back.
8) Select 'install zip from sdcard' > 'choose a zip drom sdcard' > 'downloads' > 'RootXperia.zip' > 'Yes - Install RootXperia.zip'
9) Wait the flashing to complete, go back to the main screen, select 'wipe data/factory reset' and 'wipe cache partition', in 'advanced', select 'wipe Dalvik Cache' and 'wipe battery stats' , and return to main menu, select 'reboot system now'.
Done, your Xperia Pro had been rooted. Mind that the restart will take longer than normal.
10) Enter to fastboot mode again, refer (4). Then reopen command prompt setting like what you did in 'unlock bootloader (iv).
11) Type in 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' after the command. Your unit will come to an orange background which is the CWM-based recovery mode. Reboot the system.
Your unit is now with recovery shortcut during startup, by pressing the 'Volume Down' button once when the static Sony Ericsson white wordings become brighter.
Add-ons (siuyi haven't tried anything from this point onwards)
1- Upon unlocking bootloader and rooting your MK16i, if you tend to update your unit via pc companion under 'Support Zone' (also known as FOTA Update, Firmware over the air update), our update will be denied OR you WILL brick your phone. If you happen to brick your phone, do not worry and refer below.
REPAIR it due to FOTA Brick or ENABLE FOTA update, read the link below:
Enable FOTA update for UNLOCKED bootloaders WITHOUT brick (recommended)

disclaimer : siuyi holds no responsible on your unit. Be a man, do the right thing. If you bricked your phone, refer 'Add-on (1)' to solve the problem. Unlocking bootloader voids warranty? Then refer 'Add-on (2) to revert back before you send off for warranty claims. There might be wrong info in the guide above as well.
---------------------------------
If you do not plan to unlock your bootloader, you can try to root your unit using the below method:
[Daily Update]Root / Unroot Sony Ericsson Xperia 2011 v1.5 without unlock bootloader
*Note that some upgrades which requires rootings requires bootloaders to be unlocked as well. So it is your choice to choose between unlock or not for the bootloader.
For recovery applications, you may install boot.img via step 10 (if im not wrong).

UNLOCK XPERIA PHONE'S BOOTLOADER (TEST POINT METHOD)Why need to unlock bootloader ?
- To install custom roms and custom kernels (like Cyanogenmod and MIUI) on Xperia devices.
Why Test Point Method ?
- Test Point Method is the easier way to unlock your phone's bootloader . It also will keep your DRM keys.
- Instead of using test pointer , I'll use copper wire because it more easy to do.
- If you want to use test pointer , you can refer to the original article
here- If you want to use the official ways , refer
here , but you will lose the DRM keys if you use this method.
Check Your Phone1. Dial *#*#7378423#*#* and choose
Service Info then choose
Configuration , you will see IMEI number, Version and Rooting Status.
2. If under Rooting Status it shows
"Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes" that means fastboot is enabled and the bootloader can be unlocked and you can follow this procedure.
3. If you see
"Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" that means fastboot is disabled and the bootloader cannot be unlocked , in this case DO NOT follow this method otherwise it will bring troubles.
Requirements1. USB Cable.
2. Aluminium / Copper Wire (6/8 inches).
3. Pin or Paper Clip.
4. S1Tool , download from
SlingFile and
Dropbox.
Prepare Test Pointer1. Take the wire and connect the wire to the pin (you can also use paper clip or any needle like thing).
[attachmentid=2912068]
2. Connect the second end to the USB cable.
[attachmentid=2912070]
3. Turn off your phone , remove battery cover and battery.
4. Remove the test point cap.

2. Connect the pin to the test point (red point in the images)
Xperia Pro (MK16i)[attachmentid=2912028]
Xperia Neo (MT15i)[attachmentid=2912029]
3. After connecting test point , Windows will automatically install new driver.
4. Installation will succesfull if Windows show this message.
[attachmentid=2912034]
5. Remove USB cable from phone (not PC).
Unlocking Bootloader1. Now , run the S1Tool and click on the
"Patch SEMCBoot".
2. Attach the pin to the test point like before.
3. Press
"Testpoint READY" and connect the USB cable to the phone.
4. Remove the test point and press
"Testpoint Ready" when the S1Tool said so.
5. Wait the message from S1Tool that said the process is
"FINISHED".
6. Turn on your phone and enjoy your unlock bootloader !
Relock Bootlader1. Turn off your phone.
2. Run S1Tool and click on the
"RESTORE" button.
3. Connect USB cable from PC to phone in flashmode/hold the volume down button (Green LED).
