The Starbucks at Mid Valley doesn't have wifi installed. So weird. Maybe that branch too good business, don't want anyone to sit there too long. Hehe... Anyway, I tried my PDA over at 1U and Ikano Starbucks, no problem. Doesn't ask for password also.

It means that you type :

username: zone
password: zone

when you get prompted at the login screen. If you don't see the login screen, try refreshing. Starbucks outlets with wifi requires this step.

No problem. Happy to help. Sometimes you have to check also with them - because several times I was at Starbucks and their connection died so no one could connect, but no one actually asked the staff (everyone scared to drop water face, hehe).

Happy surfing!

sigh..i wonder what'z wrong with TimeZone?

At First World Hotel Lobby, there are 3 Wi-Fi ...
1 is Maxis, 1 is TMNet, 1 is TimeZone.

When I opened my IE, Maxis and TMNet will bring me to their homepage to key in the username and password in order to access their wi-fi.

When I connect using TimeZone, I couldn't get anything from my IE, kept on displaying 'The Page You Are Looking Cannot Be Found.'
Not even the log-in page.

I'm frustrated. Any ideas?

Perak Menteri Besar, Dato' Seri DiRaja Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali launched the new service at the Tapah R&R (Southbound) on 4 July. Also present during the ceremony were the PLUS Chairman, Tan Sri Dato' Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim, Managing Director Dato' Idrose Mohamed and Perak State Exco as the Chairman of Education, Human Resource and Information Technology Committee, Dato' Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir.
With this new facility, the public can now surf the internet through laptops, mobile phones and Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) at hotspots offered at all PLUS rest and service areas in Perak for free, 24-hours a day.

The Wireless Broadband Internet service is also provided at Sungai Perak and Gunung Semanggol Rest and Service Areas in Perak as well as the Sungai Buloh Overhead Bridge Restaurant.

Before the end of this year, all R&R along the PLUS Expressway will be providing wireless broadband internet service to all its expressway customers

BU and centrepoint is free

Starbuck is using timezone , is free

coffeebean = airzed

The best starbuck is the ikano starbuck which can use hotspot + airzed + timezone. Choose whatever you want

BU free wifi = no hope, slow like turtle

Centrepoint = 1st class, very fast. If u in starbuck u can use timezone too.

Sorry to bark around here, 1U free wifi is totally useless......Request time out for all the wifi network.........Nothing is free in this world.

I agree. I tried it out the other day and even though signal strength was excellent, the connection was crap. Looking at the stats, 1 Utama uses 11mbps nodes, whereas Starbucks uses a 54mbps node. Oh well, can't really blame 1U, it must be difficult setting up free WiFi to service such a large area.

Yes, I go there often. Signal and connection is good, though I won't vouch for the latency. I've not used it for anything but surfing and chatting. Gaming's a whole new ballpark.

I 'm sure lots of people know Coffee Bean provides WiFi for their customer for free. They're using Airzed and you need to enter the username and password which the staff will tell you.

Sg Wang LG
Username: cbsgw1
Password: airzed

KL Plaza
Username: cbklp1
Password: airzed

Now, anyone who knows the username of Coffeebean outlets add it to the list, let's surf together smile.gif

I had really bad experience with Airzed. Two times i try to use their service also got problem. First time in KL Centre, call them they said public holiday can not repair the thing. Second is in Sunway Pyramid coffee beam, Initially also can not connect, call them they said they forget to on their modem. But the speed in still worse than dial-up. I thing their customer service also sounds like form 5 school boy cant even speak proper english. Well, i told myself this is the last time i go to coffee beam is they still using airzed, i shall stick to starbuck for timezone. ( Airzed claim that their speed is superb, that is why i just want to try out...Than, it gives me all these crab...And the guy over the phone promise to call me back...i doubt so..

I second that, TIME's WiFi is among the best through my experience. Sad thing is their coverage isn't really wide, if only they could offer their service at more areas then it would be great.

I often have this experience:
I went to a restaurant/shopping mall and there have wifi (Tmnet hotpot)
I have Tmnet hotpot account. so I turn on my laptop and start surfing...
but after few munite the wifi signal is turned off (by the owner I guess)

One recent experience I have is in KFC restaurant in Kota Damansara.
Lucky I also have 3G account, so I connect to my 3G phone and continue surfing....ha..ha...ha... biggrin.gif

Is this list being pinned up on GoogleEarth? It would be much easier to find free WiFi around you if you can see it visually on a map.

Once you subscribe Celcom 3g broadband,
alll Tmnet hotpot (now rename streamyx hotpot) also free for you right?

(I meant you will receive free hotpot login id/pswrd once after your Celcom 3g broadband a/c has been activated)

you can check out the oldtown kopitiam alpha angle. last time I tried on my dopod, I could get the connection. and also the bangi kopitiam in ss2 wangsa maju. saw the sign of free wifi but haven't tried before. but for sure oldtown sri hartamas has free wifi. I always surf there. another location is hartamas square and black hole hartamas.

Added on February 26, 2008, 10:31 amanother spot that I discovered
1) oldtown alpha angle, wangsa maju (tried on my pda)
2) bangi kopitiam, ss2 wangsa maju(saw the free wifi sign, never tried)
3) oldtown sri hartamas
4) black hole sri hartamas (more like a pub)
5) hartamas square (food court)

Added on February 27, 2008, 11:49 amJust found out this morning. Oldtown kopitiam in Jaya One, Jln University. They put a banner along the streets about their place and it is stated there 'wifi zone' but I haven't tried. Mostly all kopitiam are free wifi....

some need some dont,

some ipoh kopitiam cafe's require a password, you just need to ask it from them smile.gif

first, you need to scan for available networks in the area, and the steps depends on whether you're using vista or XP

I believe you have to use the user manual or do a google search
on how to use your wifi services on your notebook.

It takes a bit of learning but once you're up and running you should contribute
to the list.

starbuck wifi is great, i usually work there, but it can be very slow when getting crowded. I just hope broadband services in Malaysia can be upgraded to cater for MSC status. Many countries around us have very fast broadband. Macau has 8M for home use, Vietnam much fast than us, of coz Singapore too.

MSC status => Multiple Slow Connections status => Slow Connection

Added on August 16, 2008, 2:15 pmread this article
http://www.asiamedia.ucla.edu/article-sout...?parentid=58836

The price of broadband services in Malaysia is expensive compare to the service and commitment (70% fulfillment, but not in the contract agreement we sign) they provide.

Dollar to dollar compare, In Singapore, it's much cheaper.
"The price for a basic 512Kbps broadband service for homes has come down from nearly $50 a month to less than $30."

If you have a laptop, i-City has Super Broadband, and it will have Wireless 10Mbps.

http://www.i-City.my

i-City is in Shah Alam facing Federal Highway.

You can use the free 10Mbps wifi in the Orange Cafe which is scheduled to be ready by 15 October.

i-City is in Shah Alam facing Federal Highway.

You can use the free 10Mbps wifi in the Orange Cafe which is scheduled to be ready by 15 October.

is it 10 or 20 Mbps ?

The photo says 20 though.

I bet most ports are blocked tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

That's understandable though as public wifi are not meant to be abused.

U hv more info 2 share with everyone here ? TIA

Hi PMG,

I wanted to say 10Mbps so that when you go there you will actually experience 20Mbps. LOL.

Underpromise, overdeliver.

As far as ports are concerned, no luck for anybody who wants to do bittorrent or limewire kinda thing here.

But for those want to watch YouTube SuperFast, this is the best place.

Also Online Gaming like WOW, DoTa or even Futures Trading would be ideal.

We're exploring on having a preview session for Broadband fanatics in the coming weeks, but not sure if anybody will come.

What do you think?

Hi, just came back from Genting
would like to share this

Free WiFi
Starbucks Coffee in front of First World Hotel Lobby
No need password, no need registration
Just need to click on their sponsored webpage and you'll get instant access

If u loaded can buy cup of coffee and sit at Starbucks and surf
If u stingy (like me) just take a seat at the row of seats next to Starbucks (where a lot of people sit and wait for taxi/bus)
From there can get a pretty good signal (at least 3 bars)

Just to share

The above hotspots, just ask for password from the counter or the staff and you can use. 24h mamak usually no password, just connect. Other places secured by password.

Gong Xi Fatt Chai to everyone!!

There are a lot of free hotspots in Klang Valley. But may not be the best service. Meaning, slow. Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Old Town White Coffee and etc, usually the speed is around 100 - 500 kbps. That is slow. Only interested in high speed. Looking at about 4 Mb and above.

The few good places that I have found are -

La Bodega at Bangsar
Old Town White Coffee Aman Puri

Any other good spots, please do share.

just key in ur streamyx/unifi username and password should work already.
if it does not work maybe the service is down or you have change the tmzone password

There is this new app called WAPLE ( now only in Android) . It doesnt hack passwords, but it does let you use its map function to find available hotspots around you which you can connect to without inputting passwords. You can view cafe reviews as well.. i thought it was pretty cool as you find good food, and GOOD WIFI....

So tired of asking / buying a drink to get WiFI....

It's here if you are interested... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...moimcomms.waple
