dark transparent, u mean the surface or the dark color square? the dark color square will not be there the surface is the carbon touch

hey people, does the n56vz i5 have a port for ethernet cable from modem? or i need to buy this thing which one end with the ethernet cable hole and another end with the usb ?

I have the same issue too, but guess I found a solution for it.

Run your antivirus (full scan) or clear all the history, cache n cookies on your browsers, should stop the msg.

Hi all, (this is my first post here)

For me ASUS is reliable at 95%, I bought a lot of ASUS motherboard and, in 15 years of different motherboards, I NEVER had a problem.
Last month I bought the N56VZ and after my holiday I switched it on and Explorer.exe, sidebar.exe, skype.exe, XMedia Recode.exe (I stop here, but I can continue) keep crashing all the time.

After the crash I have to restart the notebook because I cannot open the programs.
I sent the notebook back to ASUS (RMA) and in just one day they re-installed the OS and sent back to me telling that the notebook for them was ok.

After 30 minutes of work (yes I work with the notebook), it started to crash again.
I tried to send them back and they said that this is my problem because the HW is perfect for them and the software problems are of of their warranty.

Oh by the way before send it to ASUS I did these tests:
- restored the system;
- installed a new legal copy of windows 7 pro through MSDN;
- removed all the ASUS software;
- clean startup.....

.....but always the result was the same: crash.
So I wasted 1000 € for it and now I have to buy a brand new notebook.

If I replace the HDD, I will loose the warranty....isn't it?

Sooooo.....I got a new HDD (WD 750GB@7200rpm), installed MSDN Win7 Pro x64bit (the same DVD I used to install the OS on my desktop) and nothing else.......and.......Explorer.exe, sidebar.exe crashed!! 

Ye but unfortunately ASUS told me that for them is perfect, and I bought it in August, so the vendor will not change it.
So as I said, lost 1000 €

Hi guys need your advice, I updated my driver for ATK and Asus live recently and when reboot it as usual and when finish loading all the application there's a annoying uneasy error sounds alert but the things is there are no window error pop up indicates what's wrong with it. I m assuming is it the ATK coz i tried to restored the sys and uninstalled Asus Live and it's still repeating the same symptoms. Anyway just try yo get rid of the sounds or perhaps i shld uninstall ATK and reinstall it back. Anyway is the ATK in the asus utilities? Is it safe for me to do so or perhaps there are solution can figure and sort this out. Thanks in advance! cheers.

You mean uninstall the current updated ATK and reinstall it back using the ASUS utilities cd's?

hey guys , just to check what the normal temperature for ur pc if not playing games . I get around 50-55 degree for my N56V and the palm rest area is always hot that made my uncomfortable when typing .

so do the resting area of your keypad feel hot ? is it because of the aluminum surface that cos de resting area to be that hot and uncomfortable...(i have cooler pad below my pc)

and..i dunno this is kinda weird...last week when i on the pc, there is a loud sound of fan coming out of the air vent (i assume that the fan?) but i oni heard once since i brought this pc 2 weeks ago... after i start the pc next day,the sound is gone,and the air come out of de air vent is low compare to the previous day.

Is it me or everyone facing the same problem, it kinda slow for N56 to boot up using Win 7?

It took around 52 secs for it to fully loaded and sometime it will hang
