Guys,

Can someone help to provide guide step by step on how to configure Alcatel Lucent BTU to output  VLAN 621 to port 2 and other VLAN (i.e VOIP) to other port

I have my own router with DD-WRT; however it doesnt really support VLAN tagging

Note Alcatel Lucent only works using command prompt; hence the guide in this page is not gonna work

Why not buy a smart switch like the Mikrotik RB250GS?

Hi any chance you can post some screen shots of your vlan setup in the tomato interface itself rather than the ones that are up? I have just installed one of the tomato variants onto my wrt54GL which has vlans so I can use with maxis but its very confusing if you havent done it before.

much thanks

I tried the VLAN-enabled Tomato firmwares but it doesn't go high enough for the WRT54GL chipsets... so don't think it works.

Been using Asus RT N66U as my custom router foor the last 6 years I was on Maxis fiber. On Monday, I suddenly lost all Internet and had to make multiple reports to Maxis.

But somehow I fixed it today by changing the WAN port connection from LAN2 on the TM Huawei ONU to LAN3 port, does anyone know why this happening? It's always been on LAN2 all this time. Somehow suddenly only works on LAN3.

Replying to this as I had my problem fixed by the Maxpert that install my new 30 mbps package who came to collect the old Maxis Thomson router.

Background: Long-time 10 mbps RM118/mo customer, recently upgrade to the 30 mbps package due to the promo 139/mo.

According to the Maxpert, on the TM ONU (Huawei HG8240w for me), port LAN2 is assigned to new Maxis customers. This is the port you connect the Maxis router to the ONU for internet.

However for upgrade, or in my case apply for new package, TM assigned port LAN3 for that, as one ONU can accommodate multiple account in the same location. Until I cancel the old account, LAN2 port is still "open" and can use.

So in my case, TM finally finish processing my cancellation of the old 10mbps account and they close the LAN2 port, so now I must use LAN3 port for the ONU->Router connection, instead of LAN2 port.

Hope this can help anyone facing similar issue in the future. biggrin.gif

Hi all, have just signed hi Maxis home fibre 30mbps. But the connection is very unstable sad.gif
Not sure what’s the cause?

and because it’s a 3 storey house, the signal is weak in other floor.

Anyone has similar problem ? Any recommendation if we wan to change to a stronger router?

Highly recommend changing router. The Aminia router i got for signing up with the 30 mbps has such bad Wi-Fi that the room on the SAME FLOOR as the router can't get any more Wi-Fi if the room door is closed.

My 6 year old RT-N66U Asus router still performs much much better than what Maxis gives. Wld suggest looking in to an Asus replacement. Might be pricy but very worth in long run.

Hi guys,

My current situation is that my 10mbps line frequently has problems (not sure if its the line itself or router) where the connections is really slow (won't even load a page), but it gets back to normal after rebooting the router. It also disconnects/reconnects every 20-30 mins. (not a problem, but is annoying at times). For the first year or so, there wasn't any issues like this however.

I'm planning to upgrade to the 50mbps plan and also upgrading the router to perhaps make the connection speed more reliable and consistent. Any potential advice on what I can do in my current situation and/or recommendation of any router upgrade? Also, perhaps a guide to show me what it takes to set it up?

At most, there is 6-8 devices in a 1000sqft double storey. So I don't need extra coverage, but is 6-8 too many for the default Maxis router?

I have read through several posts through searches, and am still confused which router would best suit my need. Thanks in advance!

Default maxis router is very low quality. I would just suggest getting a good top-line Asus router. I bought mine 6 years ago at rm 600~ and it has lasted until now with good performance. Rly worth my money.

Of course there are other brands to consider, but I would recommend Asus due to having native Maxis Fibre configuration.
