Just to share how insurers work. They will repair the car base on stock as per insured, unless there are additional add-on premiums into the schedule/policy.

e.g. if Wira 1.5 manual, no matter how much modification, upgrade, ICE, etc. but if you did not inform insurance and they accept it with additional premium, when cases like stolen and stripped naked. Then insurance will repair it as per original OEM, i.e. put back 4G15P engine & gearbox, put back original bumper, boot, bonnet, stock rim & tyres, etc. Put back original car seat, radio, steering, etc.

Also, bear in mind the betterment rule for cars older than X years, insurers won't replace with new parts, but with similiar OEM aged parts from chop-shop.

Looks like the adjuster decides for total loss. Good for you, as don't need to headache about old-parts and car problem later. I have heard few cases of car stripped off, insurance replace & repair parts. Then later car a lot of problem like alignment, weird smell from seats/fabric/aircond, engine leaking, gearbox not smooth, etc.

Bad part is, it depends on your insured value & market value (as of June 2012), if enough to cover all, or just the base OEM.

Time to start fresh again on car & mod.

Can inform, but subject to insurer if they accept the coverage or not. E.g install ICE rm30k, inform insurance, they'll inspect and look at receipts, ask you questions like where you normally park, etc. then decide to accept the additional coverage or not. If yes, then they'll let you know the extra premium need to pay.

Let's take another example. Car is Wira 1.5. Change engine to 1.6/1.8. Didn't inform insurance. Then accident and want to claim. Insurance can reject the claim since the engine cc in their database is 1.5 and not match physical vehicle. Insurance no need pay single cent.

Just to share, if mod, better do proper way.

Hence if you transplant something that cannot pass JPJ... keep your legal engine around... anything happen.. plunk it back in before claim

Yes, sounds easy. But in reality, no.

Imagine if major accident, front damaged (engine, g/b, radiator). Estimate bill is 15-25k.
How you want to swap out the stuff ??
Things can happen so fast, traffic police already come record down the engine/chassis no.
Insurers can easily get the info from traffic police.
