If most of your audience are Malaysian, go local
If u keep yourself updated, Streamyx can't access US servers consistently well!

Hie All,

Recently Im browsing on the domain registration and web hosting website and done some small comparison. I was wondering with the same amount of money but the different is SO BIG !! Does it mean either company is planning cheating game in the business? I was so confused with all the marketing plan/strategies used. wink.gif

Anyway, here is my question with USD$ 3.95 SAME AMOUNT but different spec !! Can this happen :

AtDaddy :
-----------
monthly fee = $3.95
disk space = 5GB
monthly data transfer = 250GB
email accounts = 500 (included spam, fraud, virus protection, webmail, catch-all, 10mb space)
domain = din mention
subdomain = din mention
databaes = 10 MySQL (multiple tables)
Server = Windows/Linux
Standard Language = Win = ASP, Linux = PHP
Free = Forums, blog, photo gallery

peoplehost :
--------------
monthly fee = $3.95
disk space = 100MB
monthly data transfer = 4GB
email accounts = 5 (included spam, fraud, virus protection, webmail, catch-all, 10mb space)
domain = 2
subdomain = 10
databaes = din mention
Server = din mention
Standard Language = din mention
Free = din mention

Then which one should I choose? Or anyone have better suggestion are welcome? My MOST worry is on the payment, I scare the fraud cases for the particular company is high, then how I can know whether their online transaction is safe or not?

Thanks for the advice smile.gif

Hi tweetysamm,
It's overselling, a term used to describe such strategy in our industry.

Thanks.

Yupe.They basically provide you with 5GB of space... but do u really ultilise 5GB???
imagine the time u needed to download 5GB of files... then u imagine uploading 5GB.... that would be weeks.....
it's da same thing that goes with gmail giving 2.GB of mail...

For example, a blog that have been run for 5yrs with A LOT of images Im sure it can consume a lot of space?? Then will they allow this?

The space is FIXED right once u sign up? But the bandwidth is PER MONTH right? Correct me if Im wrong smile.gif

Thanks for guidance smile.gif

check my blog for the coupon code.
im currently using this host too. my friend punya. if you think it loads fast, then you should consider it. smile.gif

What about local web hosting sites like webserver.com.my and freenet? Good? I mean reliable and good support.

I got a nOOb question here sweat.gif

I saw some Webhosting are offering SQL but only limited to 1 or 2 SQL. (For cheap hosting)

But they are offering Unlimited SQL as well (Not cheap of course)

So my question is:

What is the different between Unlimited SQL & "Limited" SQL?

I wanna know in term of usage of it.

TQ! biggrin.gif

In my knowledge as below!

Limited Database
You cant have more database than what you were limited with.

Unlimited
You can have as many databases as you want.

Differents?
Well you might want to split your database for different application you're running from? Such as having a forum in one, blog in another. In some way, you could also host few different websites under one hosting account. It should reduce server stress and provide a more organized database structure.

As for the topic, i would recommend a local company if your targetted visitor is locally based. It would provide a fast connectivity and at the same time, immune from problems from local ISP such as international link breaking down thats often happen. Under some reason, i'll only host my in the US. No comment for local companies.. Lastly if you were to use some local company, please only use firmly established company.

hi, great discussions. I am having difficulty as to how these 2 compares:
1. http://www.webvisions.com/businessxpress/bxwin.html
2. http://www.ipserverone.com/windowsWebHostingService.html

How come they are so different? I mean how come IPServerOne (I believe LYN hoster) looks so much cheaper? am I missing something?

I am looking for ASP.NET 2.0 hoster that is located in Malaysia.

Thanks a lot
seriously looking for one

Thx for your reply ken_wickedboy

So based on ur answer, 1 Forum will use 1 SQL, 1 Blog will use another 1 SQL etc

My another nOOb question is:
a forum with 10,000 forumers will use 1 SQL only? Or each forumer use 1 SQL = 10,000 SQL to be used?

Thx again in advance smile.gif

You would only need 1 Database , thats it. But for me , I am happy with 1 Database itself , you could use it to host a Forum (a small one) + Blog and many other things too..But if its get bloated then you're dead. Some hosts do have a limit on how big the Database size should be....
