Oh next month is Photokina right? Maybe i'll wait a bit more. Though i think the X10 is still young compared to X100.

Im a total photography noob.
I don't know how to gauge those numbers which is, the higher the better and vice versa.

Which of those above gives the widest angle and best low light image quality?

It's just some bits and pieces I'm looking at after being poisoned by the RX100... so thought of sharing.

The interesting part is the focal length range (equiv) and the aperture range (equiv) to get an overall comparison between cameras of different sensor size for subject isolation (bokeh-ness ). Ex. There's 1 stop difference between f1.8 on a camera with sensor size like XZ-1 vs RX100's bigger sensor.

From the chart, can see that at the widest angle, the RX100 has ever so slightly better subject isolation characteristic than even an entry dslr like the D3200 with its 18-55mm kit lens but loses out on the telephoto range.

Here's another bit that copy paste from dpreview.. the aperture value across focal range. Assuming the RX100 sensor performs about the same as the 12MP m43 sensor, I think the RX100 got about 2 stop advantage over my XZ-1 on the wide end but significantly starts to lose advantage over mid and tele focal range. At long end should be about the same niah. But should be better dynamic range la.

For clarity.. by this I meant the rough sensor's ISO performance based on what's seen on the Nikon 1's sensor... I use this to gauge if I can get useable shutter speed on my preferred focal lengths under the crappy lighting condition that I normally shoot like my living room

It's not 100% since every camera meters differently but agak agak la.

I have been using Lumix LX3 for almost 4 years and it has been a trusty companion due to it's size and also I have not seen anything that really is leaps & bounds ahead of the LX3. So far I think the Sony RX-100 is the only new camera that I find a worthy successor in terms of size & performance. The Canon S100, LX5 and even the LX7 have similar sensor sizes (the LX7 is also really big) and the m43 like EPM-1 and Lumix GF-5 are much bigger esp with the kit lens. RX-100 has everything I am looking for - pocketable, large sensor (relatively), HD video and a decent lens.

The Hong Kong retail price is HKD5,490 which is around RM2,250 at current exchange rate. The street price is of course much lower and I think the difference is big enough to risk the warranty, so I know where I will be buying my RX-100 from ;-)

those pics taken with the rx100, they have been photoshopped. please be aware. the pics are not straight out from the rx100. but to be fair, he is a good pro. his composition is really something.

those pics in dpreview's sony talk forum gives a better representation of straight-out-from-camera jpegs.

The point of my post is that the review is the best I've seen to date as its from the point of view of a user especially his mention of some of the RX100's quirks.

Where can judge camera just by sample photos wan... most cameras these days also can take great photos under ideal conditions/shooter wat.

sniper, you got me wrong. Yes its a great review, remember i even mentioned it in his comments. I'm Just letting those who don't know that he is also a major photoshop fan. So that they don't think that with that camera they can take photos of that kind n style. In case i get hammered again, just to let you all know i'm not into photoshop. I just adjust brightness, contrast, Hue n sharpening. I'll be buying the rx100 today, if its in stock.

i feel the lowest of 2119 can go down a bit more but will take some time. im in no hurry as its only going to be a spare camera for me

Got it. Rm 2119 from foto Miami aka digitalfm14. Thanks to Joseph Hahn for the heads up about this trader. I'm pretty impressed with the p+s. I never had an enthusiasts compact before.

This should be arriving on Monday. Looked around in KL, nothing. Looked around Frankfurt, nothing. Had to resort to eBay to get this.
