For Y580 model, can anyone confirm what is the SATA port for DVD drive slot? Is it SATA II(2) or SATA III(3)? Because want to swap out the HDD with SSD, worry the HDD will be more slow if swap to DVD slot.

i saw gt ppl use msata SSD...there r two type of SSD?

mSATA SSD usually using for caching, but of course u can also install OS inside, but speed will be slower than normal SSD and they are also SATA II only

Nope, actually our driver is Athros but it's name as Liteon....
Only some china version or US version come with Intel one

i found a bug on the "Intelligent touchpad" ....you can't scroll down with two fingers when you put your another finger on the left click area...stupid design --

why don't u install mSATA SSD instead?
1. you no need to remove anything
2. u have 2 harddrive

McAfee make the wireless damn slow,especially when startup .

hey guys,i seemed to have a problem with my wifi card..everytime im connected to my wifi,it shows "no internet access" and have to wait 5 minutes only i can get internet access and surf the net...
Is it hardware or software problem?

Also,i bought my u3 cooler from ALL IT,seems like 2 of the 3 fan sot sot edi..sometimes work sometimes it just fail on me...

this is because the stock anti virus giving u slow connection. if u uninstall it. u will notice instant connection.

mine is y580, i uninstall it and notice wifi is connected the moment i logon to windows

May I know how to make msata 32gb to be cache purpose at Y580? Any sifu know can advise?

I did install the msata. But the RST did not appear Accelerate button to configure the cache.

Hmm... So that probably means that by default all Y580 MSATA are disable by factory bios setting even though the MSATA port is present.

ONLY stock Y580 model which comes with the MSATA SSD will be enable.
Which means the rumors are true after all.

I use 128 msata and it running well.

Woohoo.... finally got my Crucial mSata 128 GB  installed... i feel its finally completed

i talk with the person in service center, Y580 is a problem machine, everyone send their device via common issues such as display problem:
1. screen stuck while playing game
2. hardware problem such as myself, bluescreen and power problem

EDITED : mostly Y480 hav no big issue, from the aspect of performance are better than Y580 although the spec is not that high, mostly the problem in Y480 is bluetooth issue.

bro try and go lowyat lenovo service center, really highly recommended, trust me    i been sitting there for whole day chit chat and while fixing my lappy problem with the engineers there.

Same here, quite satisfied with Y580 so far, only complaint is that you need to lock the trackpad again everytime you restart the laptop.
