Hi guys! I am an Alevel student who is going to be sitting for AS in October. I would like to enquire about interviews. I have already taken my UKCAT and IELTS, getting a 767.5 average and a band 8 respectively.

I am applying for Cambridge, Imperial, Kings and Manchester. Can fellow medical students shed some light on the interviews, your experiences and advices?
*
If you want to apply to oxbridge and imperial and ucl, you will need to sit for bmat too.....

That is why some people just avoid applying to these 4 med schools.....

Yup, I am aware of that. I initially wanted to go with Kings,Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol. But then, I decided to give those schools a try as I would need to get into those schools to qualify for a JPA Overseas Scholarship.

Any advice on the interviews?

your ukcat scores is very good, although some med schools also look at individual section scores....

just be yourself, be confident, do think through some common issues and have a stand, and reasons for these stands....

even when there is a surplus of doctors, there will still be a need for about 3000 new doctors....

in an ideal world, the best 3000 will find work....

however, this is msia, and other factors will come into play....

time has really changed.....now students choose their med schools....instead of the other way round....

may i suggest a simple test to determine the quality of a local med school?...if they beg you to join them, you have many choices to choose from, non of them is of any quality....

if it is well known to be difficult to qualify to enter, you are not sure if they will accept you in spite of straight a results....then it is a quality med school.....and there is probably only one in this category now.....

I can think of 8 that qualify that criteria, but I'm not very sure they are better than others.

i was only referring to private ones....

aimst only looks difficult because they reserve most of the places for their own foundation students, and jpa scholars.....it's to 'guarantee' all places are filled from a large cohort of foundation students they take in....that is NOT taking in the best.....

both monash and numed have watered down their selection process so much, they are actually quite easy to get in now.....just as long as you have that 500k+....monash is ignoring the isat results they still insist applicants pay money to sit....and numed has now dropped the ukcat test completely, as now it is clear non of the graduates will be able to work in uk.....

there are 5000 new doctors a year currently, and the numbers is expected to peak at 7000 a year....

there are only 1000 masters places at the moment.....

do your maths....

The way it is heading, let it be a self elimination process. Hopefully, the good ones are retained and not vice versa.

selection into the masters programme is non-transparent, and the numbers suggest the nep/ketuanan melayu policy is complied with...

we are talking about treatments for patients, life and death should be the paradigm of the practice.

welcome to malaysia....

why should this be any different, when entry into ipta is already based on nep and entry into ipts is based on money?....

in some hospitals, and in some posting/time of the year, there are not enough housemans to carry out the shift system properly....

the shift system is workable if there are enough people, and there is a good system for handover of patients....

the best is still the old on call system, as far as continuity of patient care, and houseman training is concerned.....

The problem is not recognition, but lack of internship jobs......they have enough to take all residents and some internationals.....but about half of internationals will not find a match.....in most states, they have a prioritisation policy, so off shore graduates are always placed last.....

There is another alternative for onshore internationals, places in rural and private hospitals....but this is not open to monash sunway graduates.....

accredited but now allowed?  hmm.gif

you are NOT an australian resident or cotizen, therefore you have NO right to work and live there, unless you obtain the necessary visa....

so ability to work in another country depends on 3 things....

1. recognised qualification
2. offer of job
3. getting a visa to work

you need all 3....

for monash sunway grads trying to work in oz, you have problem with 2....

for numed grads trying to work in uk you have problem with 2 and 3, and probably 1 too....

if you are a msian uni grad trying to work outside msia, you have problem with all 3....

you cannot just 'open clinic' in oz....all gps get reimbursement from medicare, and therefore, needs to register with medicare, under the health insurance act....and get a provider number....

in order to qualify, you need to have full registration with mba...

to qualify for full medicare reimbursement, you need to be a franzcgp....
