Hi,

Currently our office installed with UnifiBiz 10MB with 1 fix IP with the following setup (example) on the Dlink DIR615

Static PPPoE

Dual Lan Enable

Username: name@unifi.biz
Password: xxxxxxxx

IP Unnumbered Address: 175.189.157.221
IP Unnumbered netmask: 255.255.255.252
Lan Start IP: 175.189.157.222
Lan End IP: 175.189.157.222

Then there is a TPLink 941ND setup as Static IP:

Static IP Address: 175.189.157.222
Submask: 255.255.255.252
Gateway: 175.189.157.221

Everything seems to be work not but the Dlink DIR615 seems to hang on and off and I am considering to replace both the unit with a TPLink WR1043ND flash with OpenWRT but the example give is only for dynamic IP.

Would be great if anyone can help out here.

OK let me explain what I am trying to do.

Current setup

ISP (Unifi) ----- Dlink DIR615 ----- TPLink router --------------- Local Lan (mail server)

----------- ---- xxx.xxx.xxx.221 -- xxx.xxx.xxx.222
------------------- --------------------- 192.168.0.1 ------------------- 192.168.0.1/24

I am trying to replace both the Dlink DIR-615 and TPLink with just one Microtik 760GL

ISP (Unifi) --------------- Microtik 760GL --------------------------- Local Lan (Mail server)

------------------------xxx.xxx.xxx.221
------------------------- 192.168.0.1 ------------------------------ 192.168.0.1/24

I follow the setup base on klseet setup I cannot find where to create the xxxx.xxx.xxx.222 ip. This IP already as some A Record in the public DNS pointing to it. I know I can do just use xxx.xxx.xxx.221 as our public IP but I would need to update all these record.

Hope you can figure out what I am trying to ask.

yup me too. it seem got problem with my linux email server when using asus RT-N16 with above configuration as below;

Hi,

Currently our office installed with UnifiBiz 10MB with 1 fix IP with the following setup (example) on the Dlink DIR615. Existing setup by TM personnel

IP Unnumbered Address: 175.xxx.xxx.21
IP Unnumbered netmask: 255.255.255.252
Lan Start IP: 175.xxx.xxx.22
Lan End IP: 175.xxx.xxx.22

--------------------------------------------

Now I am using ASUS RT-16.. and with ASUS there is nowhere to fill this
Lan Start IP: 175.xxx.xxx.22
Lan End IP: 175.xxx.xxx.22

... so i put like this

Static IP Address: 175.xxx.xxx.22
Submask: 255.255.255.252
Gateway: 175.xxx.xxx.21

I seem i have problem with my internal mail server locally host inside my network . My domain pointed to 175.xxx.xxx.22 . do i do this correctly.?
1. my above setting on rt-16
2. or should i pointed my DNS domain to 175.xxx.xxx.21

Where do you get the IP unnumbered address? Is that the Public Fixed IP address?

Not familiar with Mikrotik but what you want to do is Network Address Translation(NAT). The internet already knows that your location is where they need to go to find x.x.x.221 and x.x.x.222 (TM already did the necessary BGP).

Right now your Mikrotik is not responding to any traffic to x.x.x.222 because it doesn't know where it is so you need to tell the Mikrotik to translate (NAT) your mail server's local LAN IP to x.x.x.222.

Again, I'm not familiar with Mikrotik so I can't tell you how to do this.

Regardless of model, make sure it has good ventilation and is plugged into a surge protector at the minimum.

I have a DIR-615 that hanged for the first time last month after 4+ years of almost non-stop operation, in a server room with air conditioning and in-line UPS, surge protection and clean earth.

it is inside server room with 24x7 aircond, one of the issue we have is the copper wiring in our office block is kinda old, sometime the monitoring tools alert me the line is down for around a minute and up again, guess the signal might not be tip top. hmm.gif

TM's router especially the Riger one really is not good enough for business use. You can get a good Mikrotik SoHo router e.g. RB951G-2HnD and I can instruct you how to set it up. But if you are satisfied with the TM router, then it's fine.

dlink dir-615 is one of the worst ap router that existed in this world. There is no need to argue it's usage and so on. This piece of crap should be collected and thrown into the volcano.

Now, on some of the recommendations on replacement. I would not suggest any typical user to user mikrotik because it is a powerful device that have so many features, a normal user will be lost in it's infinite config options. Mikrotik is more for enthusiasts and IT geeks. For normal typical users, go for brands like asus or netgear. Some suggested tp-link as it is cheaper but quality is not as good as others. But it is still 100 times better than stupid dir-615.

Well we weren't using it as anything other than a router. No DHCP, no Wifi, no VoIP. So it was absolutely fine.

I say 'was' because after I posted the above, it hanged everyday for 5 days straight and now I just plug in the Unifi direct to our Peplink Balance 510. Would have done it earlier, but hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
