Agreed! Rule no. 1 in playing HC : Always make sure there's a clear exit path should you need to run away!

Come, come. Let's all play HC. Since I don't do AH, I will just sell off whatever gears that I cannot use. If there's anyone there that can use em, I'll just give it to them coz in HC, there's no point hoarding gears as when you bite the dust, the gears go poof too!

Had another close encounter playing my HC wizard over the weekend. This is my 3rd wizard after the first 2 died almost at the same location.

Anyway I was leveling my third wizard when I got to the Wortham quest (the burning town). I talked to the ferryman and I was dropped off at Wortham and I began my quest. I slayed some cultists and then it happened. Every character in the game froze. The Templar froze. The cultists froze. My fired off some magic missiles but none appeared although the animation showed.

I guess you are all familiar with this - it's called lag. I inhaled sharply. One can easily lose a HC character to the lag monster. I calmed myself down and thought that maybe my wizard will survive. It's just a couple of lowly cultists she's facing.

So I waited. 10 seconds later the situation was still the same. I could run around but all other things were frozen. I waited some more. 30 seconds go by and still no sign of change. I was getting really agitated by now.

I glanced at the latency bar. It showed yellow like always as I never get green. So I waited still as there's nothing else I could do.

Almost 2 minutes went by and still the same. Everything frozen but me. Crap! I thought. My wizard is as good as gone. I finally called up the menu and clicked the leave game button. Nothing happened. I clicked the exit button. Nothing happened.

I clicked on the exit button repeated and the game finally closed and I was back at my desktop screen. I sighed. I was sure when I logged back in, I would see my wizard as a ghost in the select heroes page. When I finally did get logged in (I had to reset the modem to get in, else it was Error 3006), I was pleasantly surprised that my wizard is still alive. What's more, one item I messed with during the lag was duplicated. She had it equipped as well as in the inventory slots. Haha.

Now my wizard is at level 14. She's right at the entrance to the Halls of Agony where her predecessor died. I do not know what happened but I'm glad she's alive.

I think it's a HC learning curve. I also lost my 2 wizards at almost the same place. Tonite will try again with my new wizard! Haha

OK. Today server maintenance so it is rest day for me.

But on Wednesday, I intend to do the Butcher run on my HC wizard on Normal mode. Now looking for partners. Preferably those at levels 12 to 16

Will start at the beginning of the Halls of Agony and all the way to the Butcher.

My wizard is level 14.

No worries bro. We kicked the Butcher's butt! Just glad that your character's still alive after 3 disconnects! Haha!

When it comes to lag, all characters are just as easily screwed!

So don't worry too much. Just create one that you are comfortable with and join the fun. Keyword here is fun. It's all for fun so don't take things too seriously.

Also for hardcore, you must remember that your character is ALREADY DEAD at the time of creation. He/she will die. That's a fact. It's just a matter of time. So try not to get too attached to it.

Below are some tips for playing hardcore:

1. DO NOT ZERG RUSH ANYTHING! It pays to be cautious. Even if you are facing lowly zombies, if you're surrounded and cornered with no way out, you're screwed.
2. Take it slow. No need to rush. Take your time to explore the map.
3. Learn to run away when you sense danger. Faced with too many mobs at one time? Surprised by a bunch of mobs after turning a corner? RUN! Run for your lives! Hahaha. It will keep your character alive for the next fight.
4. When you run, run to areas of the map that you have already cleared! Else you may find more mobs chasing after you.
5. When playing co-op : stick together and face mobs as a team. The sum is greater than the total of all the parts. As much as possible, keep one another alive and out of danger.

And last but not least : HAVE FUN!

When your HC character dies, learn to laugh at the situation.

Agreed but we can try to keep it in perspective and not rage too much. Haha!

Oh and BTW, forgot to add this tip:

6. Try to level at least 2 HC characters at the same time. So when you lose one, you will still have another that's just one or two levels behind. It can cushion the blow a little. Also it can help you to find items a little faster as you can share the stash across all your HC characters.

Few days ago I found a legendary DH bow that drop from mobs in Normal difficulty. Since I was playing wizard so I cannot equip. Stats were crappy anyway but then I saw there was an achievement for equipping legendary gears. So I created a HC DH and equip the bow just for that achievement. LOL.

Ok.. last run we got my wizard past the Butcher and now she's level 17 and just started Act II.

So.. if anyone's still interested I'm making another Butcher run tonight with my level 13 monk. If you see me running around using my HC monk in Act I Normal and interested to join, feel free, ok?

Bummer! My monk did not survive the Halls of Agony. *Sigh* need to re-roll another monk. Lucky got backup DH at level 10... haha

Third HC character to die so far... I only hope I do not keep dying in the Halls of Agony.

I re-rolled another monk. Now at level 9 going to 10. Should be able to get her to level 13 or 14 for the run if you guys can change the time... worse come to worst I bring my DH lor...

Wahahahaha! After we do this butcher run, anyone crazy enough to create a new character and do a naked run?!!

Let's see how far we can get. Dump even the weapon the character start with!

Ya know... we should start with a group of 4 in naked co-op.

First milestone - Skeleton King
Second milestone - Butcher
Third milestone - to be defined..

Breaks in between milestones allowed but strictly no playing naked characters in between milestones.

And see who lasts the longest. Last man standing wins! Of course have to have same players lah for each session...
