Created a hardcore character a couple of nights ago. Now she is level 5 wizard going trough Act 1 in Normal mode.

I agree with what the others have said : If you're not playing Diablo III in hardcore mode, you're doing it wrong! Forget about farming for gears and gold. Forget about the auction house. Diablo III is meant to be played in hardcore mode! If you have a party that sticks together and watch out for each other all the better.

Hardcore is meant to be played slowly and deliberately. No point rushing through it. You can die in any and every battle you know so enjoy the journey!

No. Don't buy gold. You'll only encourage more account hacking.

It's just a game so play it within its boundaries. Heck, I don't even visit the auction house.

Oh, BTW, my HC wizard is level 8 on normal mode. Haha. Yes, I'm slowpoke!

You run when elite mobs chase after you when you are in hardcore!! I experienced that too. Haha. Still in Act I and when I see blue rimmed mobs coming after me, I run like hell.

I try to lure them into a bottle neck so that I can pick them off one by one without being surrounded and boy, do you keep one eye on the red globe at the bottom left of your screen and one finger ready to spam the health potion button!

For those of you who do not know what you're missing out on if you haven't played hardcore mode, here's an extract from my blog post that might give you all an understanding of why we use hardcore:

I am gonna take it slow from now and concentrate more on my Hardcore character who is a level 10 Wizard. She has only one life to live so even though she is still on normal mode difficulty, it's all the more exciting. Last night she vanquished the Skeleton King. Nearly died in that encounter. I had to keep my cool and steer her away from certain death. I had to make sure I hit all the right buttons or else she will die. When the Skeleton King finally fell, the sense of relief was great. Like I have mentioned in a previous post, you walk out of every battle feeling stronger when playing in hardcore mode. Even though non-hardcore haracters also do level up, levelling up a hardcore character feels all the more real.

Your heart really do skip a beat when you see that health meter emptying and your character is one hit away from certain death. You start to panic but you tell yourself that you have to pull yourself together or you won't make it. Your focus now becomes pin sharp as you carefully and precisely place every mouse-click and keystroke. When you see that health meter replenishing, you find yourself letting go of a breath that you did not realise you were holding. It's exhilarating!

After playing through all the quests in non-hardcore mode, I find myself questioning if I could really pull my wizard through all that and not die in the process. I've died so many times using my non-hardcore demon hunter. Maybe my wizard will not make it but then at the back of your head there's this little voice that says, maybe, just maybe she can make it as I now have a little more experience. It's that uncertainty and the sense of challenge it provides that keeps you coming back for more. Like I said, every time she goes into a dungeon there's no telling if she will be able to make it out alive but then again you won't know if you don't try right? After all you only live once.

Since you all already have non-hardcore characters, why not create one hardcore and join the fun? biggrin.gif

Well if your hardcore character died then you must remember it's all a game. Grieve for a while if you must but then you can always load up your softcore character and play on.

I guess I know that my wizard will die on me one of these days but then I know it will be fun while it lasted.

Tip:

When it lags, play your other characters. Haha

I think the graveyard is a good idea. Maybe write a short eulogy.. HAHAHA

Although, when my next character dies, I'll start the graveyard and put a writeup.
*
Agreed! This is a good idea. I mean anyone playing HC for a fair amount of time would have at least one or two dead characters. And yes for eulogy too.

Don't be shy... everyone will die.. it's just a matter of time. rclxms.gif biggrin.gif

OMG What happened? Leoric's Manor wasn't far from where i left you last night! OH well... don't worry, i'll help tank you till you're back up to speed.

Tips: For those who died for the first time on HC, always keep a set of good low level items in your stash. It saves your time from looking for items once again and helps you power level up.
*
Funny thing is I really do not know what happened!! biggrin.gif

You left. I TP back to town and offloaded some loot. Organized my stash a bit and picked up the Templar as my companion. Off we went into Leoric's Mansion.

Just off the screen there was this big group of Dark Cultists. I attacked and they came running. Normal right? So I hit 'Diamond Skin' but they kept coming and I hit 'Frost Nova' but it did not work as I had expected. I hit 'Force Blow' to knock them back so I can escape but that move did not even materialize and then my health dropped and I hit the Q button but it was too late. She died right there. tongue.gif

A moment of silence for Hamsaplou! Fine warrior he was.

Added on June 19, 2012, 11:56 amHad a good session last night teaming up with dharmabuns on his HC demon hunter.

One close encounter while near the Khazra den scenario. Was going up to Leoric's hunting grounds through the Khazra encampment. Just at the entrance to Leoric's hunting ground we were beset by a large group of Khazras plus a rare beast (yellow tinted) plus 2 other beasts minions.

Almost immediately our ranks was broken. The charging beast pushed my wizard back and away from the DH. Lucky I had my diamond skin up in time. Unleashed my frost bolt at the charging rare beast and as it closed I had to run away as my diamond skin dissipated.

Ran down the narrow & winding path across the Khazra encampment with the beasts in hot pursuit. Only had time to fire a couple of shots as I ran. My health down to half so far and diamond skin still on cooldown.

We were now separated. The DH and my wizzie are on their own and each had no time to worry about the other.

I ran until my diamond skin replenish and hit that again, turned around and fire off my frost blast. The beast still kept coming. I disengaged at the last moment just as my diamond skin wore off but I got one other hit and I was down to about 1 third life left!

Panic! Ran again and as I cleared the Khazra encampment, I saw in front of me one health globe we left out. Joy! I ran towards it and it replenished my health but the globe was on the edge of some uncleared area and up popped a tree monster and quickly got on my tail along with the pursuing rare beast.

Lucky for me the tree is not fast so I ran for all that I'm worth. My diamond skin replenished again and I hit that and faced the rare beast one last time. Took a gamble and did not budge until it fell, had to hit potion to see it through. Lucky my arcane points were full and by the time it dropped, I was down halfway on health but damned happy to be alive!

Remembering the tree thingy I quickly dispatched of it and it was all over! It was after this that dharmabuns' DH showed up. He too had to hit potion once to make it through.

If you guys are not playing HC, you do not know how good it feels when you survive something like this.

Ultimate Hardcore:

(1) At start of challenge may only hold 1 slot - which is usually the weapons slot.
(2) May apply 1 new weapon either 1 equipment only when you kill a named enemy/boss/elite...
(3) Cannot change a used slot for either weapon or Equipment until all other slots are full, that includes all rings and amulets

Define elite - Is it after we defeat an elite mob (yellow mob) we can equip a new slot? Or we can only equip new slot after defeat boss, say Skeleton King? So if I defeat Jondar (in the Templar quest), can I equip one more slot?

Thinking of want to start a Hardcore monk. Create character already but haven't played yet. Haha.

Ultimate Hardcore:

1. Start with the weapon your character is holding and beat up mob.
2. Can only equip 1 new slot AFTER you defeat yellow mob.
3. Once slot is filled, it cannot be swapped for another slot i.e. you fill the helmet slot but later decide you want to fill the torso slot so you swap. Swap is not allowed. So go kill another yellow mob lor...

Clear enough? Haha. Anyone want to add?

Wah! Can only upgrade after filling all slots? Die lor... then fast fast equip any ring or amulet first coz they seldom drop compared to weapons/armor. Amulets are especially bad. I hardly find amulets...

Although I'm not playing ULTIMATE HARDCORE with you guys, I have a question.

What happens if I play with you ULTIMATE HARDCORE guys? I'm not playing with the same rules but I could carry you guys who are. Is that allowed?

No rules to say that co-op with non ultimates are not allowed! rclxm9.gif
