Lolz, just saw this thread. MTG ... still going strong eh? the community continues to just shrink and grow, it's amazing.

Anyway I was playing, mostly casual ... Didn't really like winning with the same cards all tourney players use lolz. Actually quit quite a while ago but game back because of 'UNHINGED' ! lolz or Unglued II

Anyone else playing Unglued?

With the annoucement of the 2007 Pro Tour Calender, how many of you are brushing up on your extended deck building skills ? I'm personally overjoyed at the prospect of playing extended once more. The only downside is seeing the Evil Evil Pointy Fork of Doom (AKA: Umezawa's Jitte) once more. This just months after it rotates out in October.

Its horrible to think that people would sink to this level and trick people into buying fake cards. I can also see why they fall for it. These cards are so old and not many people have ever seen Arabian Night cards up close (I know I haven't). He must be caught because he is runing the image for the M'sia MTG market. Terry Soh has already bought attention to out relatively small MTG community by beating 2005 World Runner Up Frank Krasten, last thing we need is to be reminded we are a country where piracy and fraud runs rampant.

As for a returning player into MTG, nows better than ever to play. There are so many viable decks out there that there is one suited to everyone. Sure most 'Competitive' decks run Shock Lands that cost quite a small fortune, but Heartbeat is still a viable contender. Its cheap to make and just as effective in beating metagame decks. Also as an added bonus, Extended Heartbeat is also a major contender where you kill via a Brain Freeze or Tendrils of Agony.

Below is a link to a match between a Heartbeat vs Hand in Hand deck from the Honolulu Pro Tour 2005. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/pthon06/qf4

Check it out

EDIT: i'm waiting for time spiral before i do any Extended format deck testing. but i expect the next extended season to be like last time; tog, boros deck wins, CAL and friggorid being tier 1. tier 1.5 will be rock, ravager.
*
Doesn't Apoc rotate out the moment Time Spiral hits? If so a lot of decks will suffer. Most notably 'Rock' Pernicious Deed was a vital part of the deck. Affinity will always be a strong contender though ..Tier 1.5 ? maybe. but I've tested Friggorid. It has its slow points but can be amazingly fast if you get a good hand.

the rotation for Extended is next year, oct 20 2007. the 3 major blocks that are rotating are Invasion, Odyssey, Onslaught and sevent ed.

*
Lolz, no wonder the prices of Pernicious Deed's are still so high on the US market. My bad, hrmm in that case a lot of decks still exist, for now. I do hope that Time Spiral brings about some good cards as its a return to Dominaria.

Ahh the deck is jst for me to get back into the groove of things as cheap and competitive as i can.

I probably wont surface much in Constructed tourneys. Mostly Sealed..
*
Those kami cards should easily be found in the CC in DJ. I'm sure if you dig the common bin you'll find most of it smile.gif. As for the rares well there is always e-bay but if you want you can just get them off most players as those cards are really quite common anc cheap. Only one that might be a problem is 4x Sensei Devining Top.

True that Kamigawa is rotating out in October but remember you can always play extended smile.gif

Good luck with your heartbeat deck Zio. Its a lovely deck and although I spend most of my time playing Zoo or my Rogue (Solar Flare thing ....), I still find time to break out the trusty old Sakura Tribe Elder, Heartbeat of Spring, and Drifts of Phantasm *Yummy* Most damage I did was 45 via Demonfire. *ahh* good times.

There is a small type one community but sad to say most of the Type 1 action is still in the US. The problem is getting the players to play type one. Expensive cards etc are hindering the process.

As for Vintage cards, yes there are some but they are quite expensive as they are sold by the dealers. Some pro-players have type 1 cards, and since UK is the second biggest MTG market (according to US sites) you can get them at pro-tours etc.

I can check out the cards for ya. I'm not too sure where to look as I've just entered the UK mtg scene not too long ago.

Solar Flare... I really do not see the hype around this deck. All its major components can only start on turn 3. That's assuming that they have 2lands and a signet in their opening hand. So they can either Wrath or Persecute.

I have no idea why it became first. The only thing I can think of is that it punishes Tron and other control decks. I see no reason why Sea Stompy or any other GU aggro deck with Remands and Manaleaks can't win. Heck even Zoo can give it a run for its money. Orzof decks will also kill it with a turn 2 Castigate.

Am I missing something here?

PS: yeah I play apprentice, but still nothing beats reading the reactions of your opponents IRL smile.gif

Just curious ... have u played against a Solar Flare deck before ... I know I have. I have to say .. its a good deck.

No i haven't that's why I'm asking what's so good about it.
Currently at my local FNM, the latest craze is UW control playing old skool with huge number of counters and pride to make tokens every turn. If Stalking Stones was in their deck list it'll be like the deck Randy Buelher piloted.

Sides that, anyone seen Lotus Bloom from the upcoming Time Spiral ? *drool*

Sigh, missing m'sia already. Here in the UK i'm paying 2.5 gbp per booster which is roughly RM15 per booster. However the amount of tournaments is much better. Everything from vintage to tribal/2hg is supported.

Boros decks have never left have they ? Its just a matter of time before another control deck comes about. With the rumour of the huge power Black will receive in PLanar Chaos, who knows what is possible.

A question: how many of you actually 'net deck' ? I'm not accusing anyone or saying its a bad thing but i'm just interested to know.

With the upcoming PTQ Yokohama just weeks away from our shores, what do you guys plan to play? I'm just curious to know what the Malaysian players will be bringing.

The UK metagame is predominantly aggro based and with splashes of control/combo *call it the british mentality*. So I'm playing a rogue TEPS (The Extended Perfect Storm). Friends are planning to bring in the cheapest deck to build *Boros Deck Wins* and his GF ? Believe it or not 5c Zoo biggrin.gif.

If any of you guys are up for play testing some Extended decks before their PTQ's i'm free for MWS Sessions so just PM me.

Its not a bad deck list, althought I would definately change the sideboard a whole lot. Extended decks aren't just standard decks with some extended cards. They are completely different. Ichorid decks kill turn 3 , Ritual desire can even go off turn 2, and that's not even mentioning the amount of UW control tron decks.

I would completely change your sideboard
2-3 Kataki - (Affinity will kill you)
4x Leyline of the Void ( Its amazing. It shuts down Nevermind Heartbeat builds, Desire Rituals, most importantly Ichorid)
Tormod's Crypt is good. Thats just a start.

Also remove castgate from your main deck. Yes its good and it removes a card but Duress is better and cheaper. From what I see your deck is essentially a weenie deck with dicard. but You will still lose to decks like Boros deck Wins and other aggro decks. You need better ulitility creatures and Dark Confidant will be your downfall if you face burn.

4x Jitte is too much main board. Simply because well its slow. the Earliest is Turn 4 when you have 4 mana. Yes you can cast turn 2 and equipe turn 3 but for what? on Isamaru ? You want Palladin Envec at least.

If you have good disruption with discard and 4x Isamaru, 4x Savannah Lion, 4x Silver Knights you quite a competetive deck that pawns combo and has a chance against aggro with Pryoclasm.

Hrmm Planar Chaos is going to be big in standard and extended that's 100%. However its implications on Legacy and Vintage is somewhat lacking. Even Ravnica with all its multicoloured goodies have yet to lay a impact on the eternal formats.

Remand - Storm enabler (excellent)
Shattering Spree (Uncountable Artifact Hate)
Nullstone Gargoyle (Great in Goblin Tinker decks)

All I'm saying is where are the Impact format changing cards that Eternal players or eternal format followers (myself included) want? Sigh ... at least standard and Extended have good cards to play with cool2.gif

Just outta curiouslty. Are you guys more casual players or tournament players? nothing wrong with either but if casual's more the case Highlander format is simply the best ever ! hehe

Sides that I have a list I want you guys to look over. I'm more a spike player but I've just decided in the spirit of the new year to be more 'timmy' etc. So I present my 'Ultimate Timmy Beatdown Thingy' . Please comment on Build.

3x Vitu Ghazi, The City Tree
4x Temple Garden
1x Stomping Ground
1x Breeding Pool
4x Brushland
2x Flagstones
3x Forest
3x Plains
2x Selesnya Sanctuary

4x Birds of Paradise
2x Llanowar Elves
3x Ohran Viper
4x Loxondon Hierarch
3x Yavimaya Dryad
2x Mystic Enforcer
3x Selesnya Guildmage
1x Adarkar Valkyrie

2x Glare of Subdual
3x Call of the Herd
3x Faith's Fetters
1x Debtor Knell
1x Demonfire
1x Seed Spark
3x Mwonvuli Acid-Moss
2x Stonewood Invocation

Total cards 60

Sideboard
3x Plaxmanta
4x Mana Leak
1x Faith's Fetters
2x Gaint Solifuge
2x Wrath of God
3x Avoid Fate.

As you can clearly see this deck rolls over and dies to Dragonstorm, Tron, Boros Deck Wins, etc etc ... only thing I believe this deck can do is die in style lolz .. anyways post your comments.

Thank you for the very kind comments but I've tested against Boros and 8/10 games they still win Lolz ... Or at least if they play the same boros I play. Still its for a casual FNM so i'm not too worked up about it. I'm still up for testing extended decks if you guys are interested. I'm really hoping to enter PTQ Yokohama.

Lolz .. I 'knew' Knell would grab your attention. Like I said this is a Timmy build but I will try and explain why my choices are so.

First things first. Ohran Viper is not good vs any aggro deck. Especially Boros Deck Wins. First off the casting cost is a really annoying 1GG. Also most importantly the power/toughness ratio is horrid against most decks. At best it is a blocker for 1 turn and I almost never ever get to attack with it. (But it does draw their burn)

Boros is just amazingly fast and even with the post boarded Wrath I still cannot out race them on burn. I am attempting to use Myrtr of Sands to 'hopefully' get pass leathal burn damage but still I lack white cards. If they run the 8 stone rain versions, Boros deck will like its name (Win)

Against zoo this deck fairs slightly better. But the one creature this deck really fears is Solatari Priest. Yes you would argue "Hey! , you're Glare? so how can you not deal with creatures?" Pretty simple guys ... they run Ronom Unicorn.

last but not least. Knell in a glare deck ? What the heck are you thinking about? Knell is a one off and simply amazing vs 'control'. Firemane control ? (not the Zur Wielding version), U/W Myrtr Tron (Steal their creature before they can sac and gain life), Reanimation, Post Wrath board and still allows you to recover quickly. Also probbaly more evil is the EOT Sac Loxondon Hierarch and return him to play next turn to gain that Crucial 4 life.

the 1x Adarkar Valkarie is my 'usual' finisher. For a late game creature she's a bomb. Even if you're opponent has a bigger flyer (example SSS) she can Block SSS, and with damage on stack (Tap targeting Hierarch), and then you use Hierarch regen ability bringing them both back and ready to swing next turn + gaining 4 life.
