Slivers... darn irritating.. any tips on how to beat em?
*
Wrath of god. Simply amazing vs Silvers lolz. Obviously Land D is amazing vs Slivers as well. If their playing the 5 colour version then their mana base is shaky at best. How ever if you're playing the R/G version then its a little harder as they can race you. Wrath by far is the best single card against them as their are very creature dependent.

Can't afford Wrath of God? (I know I can't) then you've gotta out race them on creatures or buy alternative Mass Creature Removal such as the cheaper Sunscour from coldsnap.

Have fun icon_rolleyes.gif

OMG ... my deck (posted in 1046) is horrid in the mirror match. I was playing a friendly with my mate who also is entering the same FNM tourney as me and its HORRRID !!! ... His playing a Thalid deck so its pretty much mirror without glare but he does have the amazingly powerful Juniper Order ranger. With one in place every turn it gets bigger by +1+1 at least and he gets 2/2 Saproling tokens. Its Evil when you have more than 2 in play.

ALso my main deck Glare deck has no mass destruction so soon I'm overwhelmed by the massive load of tokens. Also he runs splashes of Black to get the ever powerful Mortify. So even after I land a Debtor's Knell or Glare i'm still not safe. Hrmm I'm definately pondering removing the red splash and play black for Putrefy,

Hrmm i was at the pre-release but got a really crappy bunch of cards. Ended up playing a R/G Aggro deck but lost due to the fact that I played 2 opponents which had really strong black removal. Each got a copy of Damnation.

Also 2/3 of my PLanar Chaos boosters had the same damn rare black dragon. Later on when a friend bought 3 more boosters he too got 2x of the same black dragon. Its so common its annoying.

got 2x Copies of Blood Knight which I believe is going to be big soon and some other utility uncommons but overall a very fun set cool2.gif

On multiple of same cards during drafting, then yes, you can put in 5x Thalid (the 1/1, not creature type) if you draft picked 5x of them. This rules applies only for drafting format.

7chai, we might have met but didn't realize it.  tongue.gif  I hang out at Es-fan too periodically on Saturday.  I might go this Sat to get back my cards as the team went to Ipoh with some of mine.
*
If i'm not mistaken it includes all forms of 'Limited' play including both Draft & Sealed. Rule is you play with what you have. So if you open 6x Damanation (you lucky bugger) you could play it.

as for the 6x damnation things.. don't laugh as it is a possibility. A 2hg winner at london just opened a booster to find Damantion, Red Akroma, and Foil Damanation.

Do not be envious my friend. For a person to be that lucky he would have to had sacrifice a lot to get it. I therefore conclude that he was naked in the jungles late last nite chanting praises and prays to the Devil whiles slaughtering a pig.

playing standard is like fair, very limited cards and new strategy. extended is nice too but it is for one who can't get enough from standard. bringing the past standard deck into extended + even great cards awaits in extended. plus, there's always combo between standard card + extended card thumbup.gif

and about Extirpate, I think it is the most powerful control card for now, don't you think? B to play, split second some more. even Lobotomy harder to cast. plus black already has Damnation. 4 of this can remove up to 16 cards in a deck, not to mention if anything that can bring back this card to hand shakehead.gif
*
It isn't exactly a control card. If you read it correctly it is more of a 'Anti' control card. Because what use is it vs aggro? Remove one of their creatures from the game? doesn't matter since Boros will crush you in 4-5 turns.

Its an Aggro card biggrin.gif ... because if you play aggro and they play remand. Expiriate remand and they lose 3x more counters. Pretty significant if all they do is stall still they hit Wrath.

ahhaha.. plus one foil one
ahaha..hmm..need 3 more groundbreaker though.. sad.gif...
just built a deck...gonna join extended with my standard deck
ahahhahahaha...25th jan right ? hahhahah... lets see....

any tips on building a great deck?
*
If you're going to play green. The most competitive deck I can think of the back of my head is Mono Green Aggro although the cards needed isn't exactly cheap. They run 2x Chalice of the Void which is almost 100% needed in the extended meta. They also run Umezawa's Jitte and Sword of Fire and Ice. But most importantly Troll Ascetic because he dodges most spot removals.

Either way don't bother about this too much. Just have fun. And if you wanna stand a decent chance of winning. Playtest against Boros Deck Win. If you can't beat them
consistantly. You need to modify.

*Metagame - What you 'Think' 'Most' people are playing. If you have a chance to beat 'most' people, you have a higher chance of making top 8. That's about it.

why is chalice of the void important in MGA or any green based aggro deck for that matter? because it stops orim's chant?

to braindead: aggro means aggressive creature based deck
*
Its simple as it stops more than just Orim's Chant
It stops Scepter , TEPS, Heartbeat Desire / Evermind, Boros, CAL decks, Egg

MGA (Mono Green Aggro) have the benefit of mana acelerators in the form of Birds and Elves. Their turn 3 drops are some of the best in the game. Troll, Call of the Herd.

When you're mono green you have 0 .. I repeat 0 ways to stop combo / Control. How do you stop a scepter chant lock once they've establish it? Naturalize? I doubt it'll resolve because they have Counterbalance / Hard Counters to make sure of that. Once that's online you're screwed.

How do you beat TEPS ? you Win turn 5 usually and they win turn 4 70% ? You can't duress them and you can't land D either. So Chalice is a must

Obviously you have to set it right against the right decks.

VS Heartbeat (Nevermind only) / TEPS / Cal decks, Scepter Chant a Chalice for "2" is almost always leathal.

It stops *Right of the top of my head cause its late in the UK*
Burning Wish
Living Wish
Life from the Loam
Cabal Ritual
Isochron Scepter
Naturalize/Disenchant
Lightning Helix
Volcanic Hammer
Umezawa's Jitte
Brain Freeze
Meddling Mage
Counter Spell/ Mana Leak

That one card deals with SO many that it is an auto inclusion in almost every aggro deck and ESPECIALLY Green because of its mana acelerants.

Setting Chalice for "0" also kills Morph creatures and moxes / lotus blooms

If you can name me one other card that can do that much that can be played in every deck without splashing colours. I'll be more than happy to change biggrin.gif

too bad sweat.gif

what do you think of the latest strong and famous deck in T2? I think it's Land D, damn this deck is hard to beat once they have power hand ..

My version:
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

before this, I got attracted with Dredge w/ Gaea's Blessing but then it's too slow .. even the latest version with Greenseeker also more towards control .. plus there's Tormod's Crypt sweat.gif
*
I'm actually building a similar deck and have done some testing vs the top tier ones. First off, Shock should be removed. I'm guessing you're mostly just shocking small creatures. IF that's the case, Skred from coldsnap is much better. By using 4x Boreal Druids which are snow creatures and a combination of snow-covered lands, you can easily kill 6/6 worms etc. Also the damage increases the later the game goes.

Mwonvuli Acid Moss is quite slow at a 4cc land d spell and so is Creeping Mold. Cycroclasm should replace them. If you are uncomfortable with a 'Limited Land D' spell, you can take out the Moss because you've already got 16 land D spells. Use the rest for some more beef either in the way of Rumbling Slum or maybe even Magnivore. At lest it allows you a threat.

Also I don't know about you but I sideboard 4x naturalise which i shall replace with the new PC Green Seal of Cleansing. Simply because Sacred Ground kills this deck. Other than that I love it. It kills control but vs Boros I'm afraid its not that simple. Will explain next time as it takes too long to write out why.

Did anybody happen to attend the Singapore GP? Would really like to hear how the field was over there. I just recently attended a PTQ in Colchester England. Didn't do very well with my slightly rouge-ish yet outdated Hearbeat Nevermind build. Due to budget contrains I had to sacrifice some cards for cheaper versions and it really hurt the build.

Match Report
Round 1 vs TEPS

He goes Lotus Bloom, I say "Oh TEPS"
I go Forest suspend Search for Tomorrow, He say "Ooo Heartbeat"

I couldn't do much since I was expecting aggro and had Moment's Peace mainboard and die turn 4 to a vicious Tendrills of agony.

Game 2

I side in counterspells and managed to Trickbind his first combo on turn 4. I then Proceeded to go off the next turn and completely forgot to Gigadrowse his lands EOT.
Died to a well timed Orim's Chant .

Round 2 vs U/W Tron

Another control deck. Lost game one thanks to no disruption.

Game 2 was slighly better but still lost to his insane draw of Tron peice 1, 2 ,3 in the first 3 turns and then Sundering Titan.

Round 3 vs from crappy janky Mono G build

Trashed the person both on round 4 / 5 but still sad since it was only a kid. We're both out of the top 24 so I just relax and chat with him.

Round 4 vs Flow Aggro

Game 1 I lost after mulliganning to 4 with no lands.

Game 2 My opponent sides in Duress and Cabal Therapies. I get hit for 3x Duress taking my components and 2x Cabal Therapy with 1 flashback. Down to 2 card and and with only 6 lands in play with heartbeat I managed to stall with 2x Moment's Peace and my opponent plays ... Cranial Extration ... Naming ... "Minds' Desire" ! ROFL since i have none in my deck I'm more than happy to show. I draw Fact or Fiction next turn and managed to combo off with a storm count of 13 to Tendrils my rather shocked opponent to death.

Game 3 - Lost vs his superb hand of aggro + duress

Round 5 vs Mono Green Hasty's

He packs Groundbreakers, Solifuge and is pretty much an aggro deck. "I like" I win 2-0.

Dropped round 6 as It was no use playing anymore

Top 8 at Colchester

1.Aggro Loam
2.U/G Opposition
3.Gifts Rock
4.Affinity (Nobody had a 'single' Kataki')
5.U/G Opposition
6.U/W Tron
7.U/W Tron
8.Rock with no Deeds

GP Singapore isn't until March 3rd. my buddy will be going down to Singapore with a 3 round bye. sorry to hear you lost lepakboy but it happens especially if you lose round 1. you should have gone with GWr Astral Slide  tongue.gif , i lost to one in my PTQ and the guy went all the way to the final.
*
LOL... goes to show how tired I was when i wrote the tournament report. Well I'll still appreciate anyone who has recent extended PTQ experience. As for GWR Astral slide... Urm if you did look at the game report, How does that deck deal with TEPS, U/W Control? lol ..... Gilded light in response i guess.

points 1 and 2 are good enough... but im sure it doesnt flip the red akroma... i just asked the question at a level 3 judge hehehe... actually one of my friend ask the question... coz i kinda know it already... logically

just to share a thought of an uncommon card of PC which i really like... Hunting Wilds... its damn good i think... i dunno about older cards but this land searcher is quite nice... good for early game and if you have 8 mana you could get 2 3/3 forest and it did not say until end of turn... if i were playing green while drafting, that card is a must hehe
*
Yes it does flip a Akroma.
so go ahead abuse the Angel of Fury alll you want. You can check the wizards sites if you really want. The recent changes to momentary Blink is that should you target a token creature, it will not come back into play where else before the errata it could.

i was suggesting Slide as a rouge-ish deck. i think if he get's a lock with witness and orim's chant its almost gg for UW tron.

i played GW Flores (aka Haterator) at my ptq. started off 3-0 before losing 2 and drawing 1.

rnd 1 Affinity, easy matchup mainly because the player was a noob but also because troll asetic + worship = gg
rnd 2 BG Rock, a old style rock decks with deeds, smongers and kokusho
rnd 3 Aggro Flow, very solid deck combining Flow Rock and Aggro Loam. basically Aggro Loam with Destructive Flow. i won game 1 with with bigger creatures and equipment. game 2 i won with asetic + worship because he didn't side in grips.
rnd 4 TEPS, auto lose both games because i decided not to sideboard against it. only defense i had were destroying his lands/blooms and orim's chant
rnd 5 TrinketTog, won game 1 with turn 3 exalted angel. lost game 2 after an epic battle involving pithing needle on my asetic and needle on his psychatog. game 3 went to time.
rnd 6 GWr Slide, lost both game due to me not being able to beat him down fast enough. lost to chant + witness + slide lock both times.

top 8 in order was
1. UWr Scepter Chant
2. Slide (the one i lost to in the last round)
3. TEPS
4. UW Trinket Post
5. Aggro Flow
6. Aggro Loam
7. Affinity
8. Flow Rock

i ended 14th out of 39 and got 5 packs for all that trouble. if anyone wants my decklist just ask.
*
This is another reason why I must stop asking for meta reports from different country hehe. Everything is so different. I admit I made a hugely bad meta choice, but then agian it was my first PTQ and I did manage to beat all MGA decks lolz. As for Orim's chant? It was the one card that would stop me dead. I unfortunately thought that the cost of getting one (12gbp roughly RM84) would be too prohibitive to aquire. I guess wrong as most of the competitors were hardcore. I've learnt my mistake and will try again on the 10th March in London biggrin.gif

For people who are still unsure about the decks mentioned, please refer to Frank Karsten's Deck-o-pedia. It has a list of the most commonly used decks for both standard and extended so if you want to know what a deck consist of and how it plays just click on any of the deck names and it'll link you to it.

Added on March 5, 2007, 1:40 amStill here in Singapore eventhough the GP has just finished. Looks like Domain Zoo dominated both Dallas and Singapore. Rafael Levy became one of the very few players to win back to back GP . Seriously , what an accomplishment.

Highest standing malaysian is Mohd Hafiz Hashim with USD$300 earnings. My friend actually finished day 1 placed #65 thus missing day 2 by 1 rank. He was tied at 18 points with alot of the other players only to lose out on tie-breakers because he had lost his opening round. With a stroke of luck someone in the top 64 was disqualified and that gave my friend USD$100 for finishing top 64 without even having to play a match in day 2.

The next regional event will be the Grand Prix Bangkok which is supposed to be happening some time towards the end of this year. From what I have read / heard it is supposed to be Sealed deck of the new set yet to be released.
*
Holi^oNe, you didn't tell us how you did at the SG GP. Go on, give us a round by round update. Perhaps some info about upcoming decks? The GP coverage on the wizards site was seriously lacking. What decks did you play and was the 'new' Balacing Tings deck any good?

As for Domain Zoo .... I'm still apprehensive about running one myself because in testing it does really badly against Trinket Angel or any counterbalance decks thanks to its low mana cost.

No he means Breeding Pool and Hallowed Fountain

Also M'sia has the advantage of getting cheap mtg cards. Unlike everywhere for example Europe where a pack cost a Whopping 2.50 GBP thats RM17 !!!

Just out of curiousity, my mate will be travelling to Kemaman, Terengganu soon for work purposes and was wondering if he could by any chance meet any fellow MTG players there?

If anyone has information of a M'sia mtg site or any place that host drafts etc in that surrounding area please let me know?

so 4 is a safe choice...
of course i wont build this deck yet...
sticking to my mono black for now till i get more funds...
btw its block...

Well just seems like overkill to me. Most people just add 1 or 2 but then again I do not know the Malaysian Meta. What are you guys preparing for anyway? PTQ Valencia ? Thats the only block constructed tourny i can thoink of.

Well I'll just add what me and my mates found out when we were play testing for PT Yokohama (No I didn't go but lotsa ppl from london managed to qualify). If you've got the Shapeshifter, you could just combo it with Fathom Seer so you can draw, This allows you to cut the Brine elemental down to at least 2. Plus in your deck although you do have 4x Teachings, its slow and yes Tendrils is good but Teachings + Tendrils = earliest turn 4.

Also some of my other mates are testing for PTQ Valencia and are playing aggro BU deck using heavy discard in the form of Funeral Charm etc to best control. It isn't too bad but the most fun part about it is the synergy between Tombstalker + Shourded Lore.

If you fail to see the connection , Tombstalker + Shourded Lore = I clean my graveyard for BB and for another B you give me the card I want *usually in their case a Extirpate*.

Post up your testing results. I might even join you on MWS but it'll have to be after uni finals.
