Both ways should not harm your car. If any starting procedure by any way will harm your car/engine, Proton surely will not allow that way (to start your car) in the first place. So, no worry. For Forte, got 4 ways to start the car :
1. Press brake & then push the start button to start the car
2. Push start button once (enter ACC mode), then press brake & push the start button again to start the car
3. Push start button twice (enter ON mode), then press brake & push the start button again to start the car
4. Push the start button once & release, then push the start button again & hold for 10 seconds. The car will start without a need to press the brake. This contingency procedure will be used when the brake switch failed.
I've use method 1 for my Forte (applicable to Preve also) for 2 years+, nothing wrong whatsoever with the starting mechanism
