guys,

just would like to have your opinion. given the fact that i just planted my plant yesterday should leave the light switch on 24/7 until the plant stable or should i switch it off for the night?

im not so sure regarding this matter but if i leave the light switch on 24/7 the aquarium will get dirty?
*
take some time to read first page of this forum, and maybe you can go my blog to have a view too.

it seems that the soil i used is too course for my plant? i wonder whether the root can stick to the soil or not... aduiiiiiiiiiiii

normal type of amazonia can use to grow HC.
IMHO,
but as newbie, your first mistake is going into HC straight. It is very hard to grow, easily dead and easily float.

ok bro thanks is just that i like this type of plant. it gives u impression of a field grass. oh well time to do some serious reading. there goes my mood to work today  biggrin.gif
*
"field grass" is the most common project for beginners.
Many has failed to plant this grass as it is not easy to grow and maintain.
Even some sifu in my-mac also failed to grow it.

I am doing this "grass field" project in next 2feet tank.
Specificaiton:
Super clear glass aquarium 2feetx1feetx14inch.
Eheim ecco
Light: DIY project LED, 10w 10000k x 3pcs + 3w x3pcs.
ADA new amazonia NORMAL type
Stay tune. i will upload progress in my FB page.

4ft according to LFS. lol. i think thats good enough for me as it throw 108W out. need to add another piece to make it become high light setup
*
108 seems low, but if you are only aiming for simple setup then should be ok ba.
i see you put 60-70% area with sand, it would be simple setup for shrimp breeding purpose? rolleyes.gif

What i have in mind now is only Glossostigma which is not exactly easy. Im planning on just having 2 or 3 types of plants in my 2 feet(planted + river gravel mix) tank.

Glosso, hairgrass lo.

sorry to tell,
but i already ordered a bunch of LED light. gonna start DIY soon for my 2feet tank as trial. icon_idea.gif lol~
10W LED, 8000k, 10000k, 12000k, 14000k
3W LED, 6500k, 8000k, 12000k, 14000k.
if this project is successful then i will make for 3feet or even bigger tank.

During my research, i found out that we only need 30-50% LED watt power to get similar light output as florescent.
This is very helpful since TNB charges is increasing every year. and climate change also increase our room temperature.
I hope i can get 25-27C for 2feet tank with LED lighting smile.gif

GOOD luck.. ya led saves light bill... but if u had use florescent b4 u will find d colour abit funny la.. lol.. my plants are digging my led flood light though
tatz y i went with them smile.gif
later upload my tank photo again hehe...
found out my tank's prob is temperature too high.. hovers around 29-30c
haiz.. seems like need fan ler... my diy cooler seems to fail me ed.
*
ya you will find out the color is funny. this is because LED spectrum is very narrow, not like florescent.
For white LED , it will only output "pure white". blue and yellow spetrum is very very narrow. UP brand uses blue LED to compensate but it is not natural too.

Short saying, for time being, if you want to use LED, there are very limited choice with quite bad efficiency.
thats why i taking so many different color temperature LED. i need to test for best combination of visual effect as well as plants growth.
Price might not be cheap since i using 3W/10W/20W LED, not those cheapo LED like other brand is doing.

I want ask. why 3watt led got 8000k, 10w led also got 8000k? Then got what different? Why dont only take 10w 8000k?
*
IMHO (sorry i still lack of information)
Plants like light with color temperature 8000-12000k. Thats why you will see Aquazonic using 12000k and sunsun 10000k.
Normal white LED is only 6500k-8000k.
As for human eyes, in planted tank we like yellow and blue spectrum. maybe 30% yellow and 70% blue.
so my plan:
10W 10000k LED use for plants grow. it can penetrate until bottom tank and makes HC and other carpet plants happy.
3W LED, 6500k, 8000k, 14000k, for human eye to be happy.

Simply testing and experimenting.

LED light sure make me drools...

but for diy, the cost is too much..
the LED itself cost a bomb. not to mention a nice diy acrylic stand...
sweat.gif
*
if you can spend Rm200 for scissor or lily pipe, why not Rm400 for LED light set?
LED lifespan is 50000hours. consider you using 10hours per day, it last 5000days, which is 14years.
WITHOUT CHANGING BULB or worry that color temperature will run !

u can grow plant with red and blue. hydroponic use that led..but we want to see a nice and true color of our plant. so, correct color temperature will gave us a nice looking planted tank.

Thanks for further explan my points nod.gif

estimation.. LED new tech also i dun think got 10years age yet... hehe...

but LED is definitely the way to go. i just ordered 50W flood light for my 4ft... see how i go with it...  thumbup.gif  either i burn the plants or i grow them like weeds... hehehehe...

actually if you guys wanna do research, PAR is the correct term... the K is meant for human eyes. then again, i can't debate now coz i also learning.. haha...
happy sharing> smile.gif see this link : planted tank forum

had you measure the light angle and intensity? LED light has very limited output angle.
some spot might be too bright and some will be very dim.
i think you can see a light beam on your aquarium (which personally i dont prefer).
Anyway, please share out your result after you tested it. Best with pictures smile.gif

yes you are correct. PAR is light intensity measurement, color temperature for human eye. i still research about it though. rclxub.gif

The RM70 is faulty unit, cos according to the staff, an Arab man brought it and run it dry, motor 'kong' , and come back for refund, make a big fuss.
East aqua sell the faulty unit with a powerhead.
Promotion price is RM138 less 20%. The cheapest in town, but this filter the flowrate is not powerful although rated at 360L/H, suitable for shrimps tank though. I have one on my newly setup up shrimp tank.
*
WTF. they should had stated it clearly. i just saw the price there but no crew member to entertain me so i just walked away.
HOB is good enough for shrimp tank. since we dont plan to dose co2 inside.

i have 4 filters, air driven undergravel filter, eheim 2213 , eheim 2042 & xb303 on a 50cm tank, over filtration to the extreme. But will take one out after fully seeded with bacteria.
*
wont that be dangerous? once bacteria colony has reached equilibrium, then you remove beneficial bacteria.
does remaining bacteria able to handle the extra task?
