Let me received the item first because i also worry the protector may not fully cover the whole screen bcos S3 screen look like a bit curve at the edge.
*
It doesn't

** This film is made slightly smaller than the LCD size to avoid bubbling, due to the curved glass surface of the Galaxy S3.

Samsung now has option to backup your phone's contact related data.

Got option for LTE .

The option is probably there in the firmware, but I'd doubt that there's an LTE radio in it.

Any idea whether the SIII will be able to handle Hi10p 10 bit mkv files?

EDIT: Sorry guys, bad news... no Mass Storage, MTP/PTP only. I'm sure there will be hack to mount it as Mass Storage.
*
Well that's a given I guess. If Mass Storage mode available, Samsung would have to partition the internal storage like most android based phones before ICS where there's a small amount of space for apps separate from the rest of the internal storage since the storage can not be mounted on two different devices (eg. the phone and a computer) at the same time and dismounting the internal space with the apps could make the phone go crazy. There are still new phones that use that type of storage like the HTC One series. Google wants android devices to start moving towards a single partition for everything in the internal storage.

It's a good trade off in my opinion for the SIII. You get the whole internal storage for apps instead of measly 2gb or so like my SII which is currently bugging me that I'm running out of internal memory for apps when there's about 200mb left in the app partition.

LOL no USG OTG function, nvm sure got developer made it

*
The SIII has been confirmed to have USB OTG function. No Mass Storage mode does not equal to no USB OTG ^^

this is sure for all latest phone, google threw out the mass storage mood, because to do that it have to unmount the sd card, meaning cutting all connection to the phone, and this will cause unstable,
*
Well not exactly all latest phones. The mass storage mode is available in ICS but it's up to the manufacturers whether to include it or not. Trade off being how your gonna format the internal storage. The HTC One X went with the two partition system like in Gingerbread etc. while the S3 went for the single internal partition removing mass storage mode.

The advantages and disadvantages is clear.
The S3 gets more internal space for apps to be installed while removing mass storage mode so that the internal storage don't suddenly get dismounted and causing the system to crash. Depends whether you can live with MTP or you could just transfer files wirelessly to it using stuff like kies air or some other app.

that what I mean @@
no mass storage mode = plug in pendrive = nothing
*
This is USB OTG in the youtube video if you don't know what it is as demonstrated with the S2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giJXF5pIITc

mass storage mode is you plug in your phone to a computer and be able to use it like a pendrive.

ya I know that mass storage mode like connect phone with computer using usb cable, then show like pendrive
then USB OTG ? plug in pendrive into phone right ?
*
Yeah basically you can connect stuff to your phone with a usb converter.
USB OTG function in the SIII is confirmed, you can have it without needing to have mass storage mode

LOL guys the T and X is for certain carrier laaa

http://ausdroid.net/2012/05/18/samsung-gal...optus-vodafone/
T is for telstra? dont know about X
*
The T version is definitely for certain carriers. As for the X version, I don't think that's coming to Aussie. What it's for, I have no idea.
The T has appeared in Aussie before for Telstra and Vodafone and also in some other countries like Thailand. The T version has the radio slightly tweaked apparently to be able to get "better" reception on networks using the 850mhz spectrum like Telstra and Vodafone. However Using it on 900mhz spectrum like optus and carriers in Malaysia seems to produce below average result compared to the standard version. The T version can use custom roms from the standard version except that a different modem file must be flashed as well along with the custom rom.

I thought people prefer S2 of lower version, i.e. G-version? They say non-G version overheats...
*
If I"m not mistaken, that was fixed by Samsung through a software update making the G version have no advantage over the normal version.

guys.. smart phone noob here.. I'm still using my old nokia 8250.

Just want to ask you guys, what are the four version available for s3?

and which version of the handset to get? and to avoid?
Thanks and sorry for the noob question
*
Best bet is always to go with the normal international HSPA+ version which is I9300. Don't take any other with letters following the model number if you can. Check the back of the box before buying. Taking niche versions would mean less or no after market community support.

Thanks alot! Does that mean the price of the international version will be more expensive? So in that case, we should get the phone as soon as possible after its launch, so that we won't get the other version in the future?

many thanks biggrin.gif
*
They cost the same in terms of the retail price suggested by Samsung, what shops charge is of course depending on the owner.
Last year with the S2, the I9100 was launched first here in Malaysia, that's the international HSPA+ version of the S2, then Samsung Malaysia quietly stopped shipping that stock to stores and sent the I9100G instead which had a different dual core processor clocked at the same speed claiming it won't affect anything but that is of course not true.

I foresee something of the same nature might happen again this year with the S3. So unless your willing to take the risk, you'd better buy the phone as soon as you can if you want it to void such a situation. Your only choice if that happens is to import it yourself or look for shops selling grey import or buy second hand if you want the normal version. Of course pay attention to the box and model number when you buy them.

Why must there be another variant!!!  mad.gif

I'm not very sure, can't remember accurately, it was a while down the road I think a month or two after launch.

QUOTE(game4life @ May 23 2012, 05:51 PM)
they ran out of exynos
*
Well not ran out,
basically they had a shortage of their exynos SOC and decided to buy some other SOC to use instead and choose countries like Malaysia among others to supply the G version to. Samsung still continues to supply the standard I9100 version to some first world countries even now, just Samsung Malaysia don't get any anymore.

2. They knew the case for SII but production site can't keep up.  G-version all the way~~
*
This is one reason. They can't make enough to fulfill demand so they use some other SOC.
Another reason on why they can't keep up is because they are also producing stuff for other companies like Apple.
Samsung Mobile has to bid with other companies to get the production capability from Samsung Semiconductors, if they don't they will be hit with some anti-competitive laws etc. Even though both are owned by Samsung, both subsidiaries can't just go all out and stop producing stuff for other companies, plus they probably make a lot of money making stuff for apple etc. haha.

QUOTE(ken2291 @ May 23 2012, 06:32 PM)
SIII currently uses Exynos Quad core, which is 4412
If they use Exynos Dual core 5250, it'll sweep every phone there in the market.
Exynos Quad 4412 can't even stand up to Exynos Dual 5250, amazing?  No. of cores is not the only determining factor.  If I'm not mistaken, Exynos 5250 is still using 32nm
lol, shld be able to get on 7th June la, not so terrifying till finished so fast eh sweat.gif
*
The exynos 5250 is better because it'll be based on the ARM A15 architecture while the quad in the S3 is still based on the old A9 architecture. There's no devices that has an A15 based processor yet out to the consumer market if I'm not mistaken, once it's out, it'll be a beast. The closest to it would be the snapdragon S4 which is based on the Krait architecture which is basically A9 with a bunch of A15 stuff incorporated into it.

Probably the earliest we'll see a phone with an A15 based processor in it is late this year, maybe the next nexus or something, or note 2 or early next year, unless the new iphone uses A15.

erm... from what i understand is krait is modified a15.... i also read an article saying that exynos 4412 is a9 but with some a15 element in it
*
Well either way krait's performance still sits between A9 and A15.
I'm very interested though to see how the international HSPA+ version of the S3 compares to the japanese 4G LTE version that runs the S4 SOC and 2gb or RAM.

Luckily I can't afford to get distracted now till the mid of next month, otherwise I'd be out to get the S3 as soon as I can. That'll give some time for the one month Vodafone UK exclusivity on the 32gb version to pass and I can start hunting for a 32gb version then. Would be great if Samsung Malaysia will launch a 32gb version at the same time as the 16gb version though I doubt that'll happen.

Samsung Taiwan said the 32gb version will be available in July, that aligns with Vodafone UK having a month of exclusivity for the 32gb version. Probably it'll come to Malaysia then as well.
Vodafone being one of the biggest carriers in the world has a lot of money to pay Samsung for exclusivity lol, probably easier and more cost effective for Samsung to produce more units as well by concentrating on the 16gb version first~~.

Ya, true. They are likely want to "limiting" us. As you know they launch 16Gb, they know we will likely used up all the storage since it is HD display. It is 4x the resolution. Thus, 4x the memory occupy. Then, when Note 2 or next nexus come up, they will tricking us by upgrade.
*
What does the resolution got to do with the storage? With that theory, the new ipad's storage will get hammered.
Why 4x?

I though it is some kind of like video? A video with 360p only occupy 30mb, while 720p video occupy 120mb.
*
When it comes to video, it depends on the user, the screen resolution got nothing to do with the video stored. If in terms of recording video, even devices with lower screen resolutions can record at 1080p all depends on the camera and software. People can put 720p videos on the phone or they can still put 360p, 480p or even 1080p videos in there.

*
Vodafone UK has a month of exclusivity for the 32gb version so hopefully it'll start popping up all over the world in July or late June.
As for the 64gb version, judging by Samsung's track record on versions that they announce as coming soon, I won't bet on it appearing in the market for consumers to buy.
