I hope you people realise that the game design is lead by Jay Wilson. He is not known for making carbon copies of previous games, but he loves to change pretty much all the mechanics in a game. Also, its not the WoW team who made this game, but the influence is certainly there.

He turned RTS conventional designs upside down with Dawn of War 1 at Relic, with emphasis on map control, squad system, cover and morale system. Then, a few years later, he changed the RTS formula entirely again with Company of Heroes by adding features like destructible environments, directional armor for tanks, command tree, even more emphasis on map control and so on.

Due to Jay's previous work on Relic, i never expected that Diablo 3 will be exactly the same as Diablo 2. He likes to change things around, a lot, by removing some of the defining features of a ARPG like stats allocation and skill points. As far as i know, Jay Wilson wants to innovate the genre, not keeping the ARPG stale like how boring most MMO are these days. Also, in my opinion, this is a very healthy sign for the ARPG genre, as pretty much all major ARPG developers are trying to break away from the old design.

With my 20 hours of playtime in Diablo 3, i say, he did a pretty good job.Most changes like the "stupid" skill unlock tree or no stats allocation has been pretty good changes for me so far, even though it seem a bit dumb downed on paper. In practise, it works very well, at least for me. I have also enjoyed the art style, which looks whole lot like a faded watercolor paint drawing, while the atmosphere is awesome. I'll take back the complaint on the art style is not gritty or Diablo enough.

I still have my criticism on the game, namely the Always Online shit with lots of sugar coating. It's annoying. In addition to that, i felt that the game does have some serious problem, especially in terms of longevity as the Jeweler and Blacksmith could not offer enough depth and longevity as Diablo 2's gambling system or how the archaic skill system. Something is missing here, but i dont know how to fix it.

If you are really disappointed with Diablo 3,  buy Torchlight 2 then because the game feels hell lot more like Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 to Diablo 2. And the game is made by some of the founders of Blizzard North/ Condor Games. The pet and skill system is pretty amazing too, as far as i can tell in the beta.

Or just wait for Grim Dawn, if you want some really difficult ARPG game, with some new innovations like faction system, open world design like Skyrim and unforgiving gameplay.

I pretty much pre-ordered/ bought all 3 of them, because each of the game offer something radically different on the table.

It is a good game, but not the "Diablo" that most of the fans know.

Because the designers of Diablo 1 and 2 go out and created torchlight.  I played both d3 and  torchlight  2 and i like  torchlight  2 more than d3. Torchlight 2 'feels' more diablo than diablo 3. That being said i will buy d3 just for the sake of nostalgic and waiting for torchlight 2. Already finished the Beta and rerolling as engineer nao.

Another well reasoned comment by Cheesenium. Thanks, Problem is people sometimes get too attached to the "Game" (played way too long, lol). I mean look at CS 1.6. They're still asking CS 2.0 lol even when CSS and CS:GO are supposedly the game's successor.
I am also currently testing out Torchlight 2 beta. Tears went out my eyes when I heard the musics. 
Pre-ordered it weeks ago.

So... Just out of curiousity. Would you WHINE if they created a game that are exactly the same as D2?

E.G: Same style. Same character. Same Gameplay. Same System.

Essentially, I would say, they only added new map.

look, are you stupid enough not to get what I mean? And who the hell would want to play D2 at this age. Look at WoW the moment it was launched, a great success, and yet by far they still able to maintain the momentum of being the most online subscription game. But if you toss WoW cds around now, I doubt you will get 10 people respond "omfg its WoW, awesome im gonna play this shit". And exactly, D3 is a WoW inspired game, and it has been running for almost a decade. Things gets old. An awesome Fairlady 10 years back is not as fair now. What I'm trying to imply here is that people wants the 'kick' of playing games that is hyped so tremendously much and get its satisfaction. But too bad D3 is popular because its popular. People has been waiting for a decade for a sequel. In case your some young fag who did not play D2 before, then your comments are worthless. I am a gamer and I do play alot genres so to me (as well as majority), the attention D3 gets does not justify the final masterpiece.

First off, for a "old gamer" i presume you are one considering your comment, you are obscenely rude, immature in reply and "stupid enough not to get what I mean" (your words. not mine)

There will always be haters. There will always be people like you whining about how the games are not what it could be. can be. or hyped out to be.

YET! There will also be people complaining if the game comes out as it was. Be it in terms of gameplay, graphic, music, storyline or anything else. Why? Because everyone have differrent expectation. You expect the game to live up to its hype, but which one? The vaunted return of the game? The much awaited 3rd game in the series? The "amazing" dungeon crawler of the decade?

In the end, no one will be satisfied. I take offense in how you presume that the game should be and whine on how it should be yet you diss the fact that no one want to play D2 at this age. Base on this line of thinking, D3 with its game changes should be better!

WoW is a 10 year old game. as you say, things get old. what do you expect ppl to do if you toss the game around now? after 10 years!

Btw, I thank you for calling me Young. Unfortunately, I aint no fag. Although I was around when D1 was launched, I still have a copy of D1, D2 and I was also beta testing WoW. So yes, I understand what you are saying, yes I do play most of their game.

Why compare this to Diablo 3? But hey, at least you can buy this game and PLAY IT wherever you want to.

Was lurking around a forum site can't remember (D3 discussion thread)... Is it true that the main game developers from D1 and D2 was working on D3, but directional changes and development issues made them go and make some game (I've never heard of...) called "Torchlight II" ??
