My fastest freestyle non-stop for 1km is 33min and I'm 174cm tall, is it still quite slow? My goal is aiming within 25 minutes in future

QUOTE(johny2k @ Nov 14 2016, 02:35 PM) Brother, is it really important for time counting?? For me, I don't really care it so much, I swim as long as feel comfortable & happy. Coz I'm planning to participate in swimathon, but with this speed I think I will be the last one to reach the endMy goal is swim efficiently without breathless, enjoy & happy. |

QUOTE(johny2k @ Nov 15 2016, 11:47 AM) Hi, brother. Do you mean Swimon PD 2KM OWS - 18 Dec 2016?? If yes, It's cut off time is from 8:30am - 10:10am. You have 1 hour 40 minutes to complete it. According your above results time, should be can complete it before cut off. I haven't decide which one to participate yet, for now I'm just getting myself ready for any swimathon. Yeah but last time I check the 5km swim, most people managed to finish within 2hrs. So I was like better don't take it for granted even though there is enough time |

QUOTE(Felice821 @ Dec 21 2016, 12:20 AM) A beginner which just start learn swimming. 1st lesson going coming very soon. I would suggest go for speedo, arena, tyr, the good one might be slightly expensive but for starter buy a cheaper model. The cheaper branded goggles usually cost the same compare to those normal brand. You can also go to SportsDirect shops, their swimming goggles are cheaper than official speedo outlets.Would like to buy goggles, any recommendation for beginner? On a side note, you will know if the goggles are suitable for you by doing this test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2A7bfj8EwPk |

QUOTE(Bombgen @ Jan 17 2017, 01:55 PM) Hi guys, bought Aquasphere Kayenne months ago. Whilst the goggle is comfortable and have a good fogging repel, it leaks so much on my right side. I think it dont fit my face posture (dammit). Can you guys recommend me any other good goggles? Now feels like buying the Speedo Futura Biofuse, is it any good? It tried the Speedo Futura Biofuse it isn't good, at least for my face structure... |

QUOTE(scoutfai @ Jan 24 2017, 01:15 PM) I have been learning almost a month (4 classes) + for freestyle. I think you need to work on your stroke synchronization and balance, it is very normal when you start leaning freestyle. For centre snorkel is not a compulsory thing to have because in early days people learn to swim without the snorkels as well. You only need one if you are really serious on getting your forms right, for casual swim not sure if you really need one.I got to say, this is a very difficult swimming style to learn! Using board with both hand, kicking, no problem. Using board switching hand, no problem. Using board, switching hand but when arm exists the water surface, bend before enter water, no problem. Using board, swim one side and breath over long distance, no problem. without board, swim 1 stroke then breath one side, both side also an do, no problem. Then when combine two hands without board, like a real free style, holy shit, can never catch the trick. My hands always lost synchronise and breathing always drink water. I think I need a centre snorkel. Usually where do you guy get one? In Lelong found one selling RM80, Speedo shop one selling more than 100+, wonder will the cheaper one serves the purpose. BTW, now I knew breast stroke kick water treading and eggbeater style water treading, now no need worry will die sinking. I would recommend speedo or finis brand. They are known to make equipments for competitive swimming, if you dont have the budget you can live with snorkel pipe or even cheaper method, buy few straws and connect them together... The way I learn is using 2,4,6-beat kicks and pace yourself when to rotate and breath. For example: 4-beat kicks, left hand sweep, right leg kick once follow by left leg then repeat the same thing on the opposite limbs and repeat. There you create the pace, then rotate and breath for every 4 strokes. another thing is to practice on your neck flexibility by doing rotating stretches on your neck. |

Also there is another thing you try with your board, put between your thigh and use it as a pull buoy, it will provide support without kicking your legs to stay floating and in the mean time you can focus on your hand and breathing.I got to say, this is a very difficult swimming style to learn! QUOTE(adrianafiq @ Feb 11 2017, 08:39 PM) It is quite misleading lol, no matter what is your body fat is you will still be able to swim under water, there are two ways, if you wish to swim underwater for short period of time, just exhale most of the air you have in your body. It is the air that keeps your body floats. The second ways to learn to perform dolphin kick and body undulation to push your body into water. The excess air will still force your body to float and you just have to undulate your body back in to water. |

QUOTE(MatXSelamat @ Feb 12 2017, 05:07 PM) it's all relativity. 25% bodyfat will float better than 10% bodyfat. Swimming is one of the rare sport where fatso tends to perform better than lean people. I don't really agree though, it is all about whether a person is being train and learn the proper swimming techniques. Yes a fat person can float better than lean people but that would be pointless if one doesn't equipped with proper swimming techniques, the person might only last for 10 mins in the water and await for people rescue after that. Take Olympic swimmers for example, they are mostly lean and muscular people.... |
