Just bought a 14RSE. Hope I don't face the BSOD.
I've uninstalled McAfee and used CCleaner to block some of the unnecessary programs that start when Windows starts.

QUOTE(ck.chunkeat @ Jun 25 2012, 11:08 PM) Oh ya,you mentioned that your old lappy broke down right? Can play Skyrim at High settings smoothly. Now got a new lappy, have fun with it and lets tf2 moar! Btw,is 14r se nice? So far haven't installed any other games... TF2 will be the next priority. Design is good, keyboard is decent, touchpad is responsive. Only complaint so far is the Dell bloatware that's installed, but I'm slowly removing them one by one... |

Some game benchmarks for the Dell Inspiron 14R Special Edition.
L4D2 - Settings all High - Can get around 60FPS constantly. Skyrim - High Settings - 40-50 FPS indoors - 30-40 FPS outdoors - First person view generally gets better FPS. TF2 - High Settings (DirectX 9) - Hard to benchmark because the FPS drops for no reason unless I ALT-TAB out then back in. - Sometimes can get 100+ FPS, sometimes drops to around 30+ FPS. - Highly recommend installing Chris TF2 Configs to boost FPS. Just uninstalled the Face Recognition thing. I don't use it and I find it annoying. After installing startup feels faster.
QUOTE(eviltoaster @ Jun 28 2012, 12:32 PM) What's the difference between the NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M DDR3 2GB (14R) and the AMD Radeon™ HD 7730M DDR3 2GB (15R)? According to Notebookcheck they give around the same performance (they're ranked next to each other). |

Been using 14r SE for 2 months. No BSOD and works fine, especially after uninstalling the annoying Face Login.

QUOTE(pn12685 @ Aug 31 2012, 02:55 PM) Shared: Yes the login is laggy because of the camera login option. I uninstalled the camera login and now it behaves like a regular Windows 7 startup screen. After 3 week using my 14R SE,no BSoD~ Pretty good~ Wish to asking, which of the pre-installed software from Dell is useless ? Feel lagging when login windows~~ Yes the pre-installed software on Dell sucks. Also my S key just broke off and the WiFi always gives me problems. Maybe I should have stuck with Asus/Sony. QUOTE(ngkhanmein @ Sep 5 2012, 11:15 AM) I tried searching for latest drivers using Window's Device Manager. No results. Anyway how do you guys turn on WiFi? It always tells me my Wireless adapter is not enabled, but I have no idea where the option to turn it on is. I already tried using the FN key and the radio icon. |

My Inspiron 14r Special Edition no longer detects my laptop's built-in wireless adapter.
I have to use an external USB Wi-Fi adapter now (Asus WL-167G V3). |
