QUOTE(Agito666 @ Jul 6 2012, 10:56 AM) Bandai marketing strategy. Ver ka mean "Version Katoki" which basically mean was designed from Katoki Hajime but biggest difference between ver ka and normal MG is the abundant amount of decal. Some say that few older normal MG kit have been modernizes and reproportions in it's ver ka edition for better balance and production but i can't tell this for certain as i don't have any to compare with. Also not all Katoki design was labeled ver ka.This post has been edited by Khai62: Jul 6 2012, 01:21 PM |

Ver Ka means version Katoki, name after the guy who design it; Hajime Katoki. Ver Ka are for those redesign by katoki, for example wing ver ka is a redesign of the wing tv series by Okawara, RX78 ver Ka is the redesign of the original granddaddy, etc etc. There are those that originally by katoki like ex-s so there is no ver ka attach to its name. Some may not have a significant difference between the original and redesign ver ka version while some totally different from its original design. From a model kit perspective, ver Ka often includes a crap ton of decals and better proportions/looks but are often very fragile. |

QUOTE(guarayakha @ Jul 6 2012, 02:17 PM) Didn't the Unicorn/Sinanju had ver. Ka attached to them even though they're also originally from Katoki? Technicalities aside, for model kit buyers, Ver Ka simply means "sh*tload of decals" Unicorn and Sinanju had ver ka attach to it bcuz those are base on the novel ver. From Bandai's view point, only those that are animated are "official/important/legit/canon" despite the fact that the novel came first and the ova in actuality redesign the katoki ver instead, the name ver Ka is attach to the original design to set it apart. Also from a marketing standpoint, ver Ka can sells better then say ver Ishigaki due to Katoki's popularity. If the OVA came first and then the novel adaptation later like usual, it'll all make sense but because its the other way around and Bandai wanted to keep the old naming convention, this whole ver Ka thing turn out quite messy. This also prove a very interesting point that unicorn ova had been plan for a long long time during the novel run and not an afterthought like most of gundam ovas since the model kit came first (with the ver ka name despite there is no other iteration of it in other form at that time) even b4 the ova premiered.
