It's frustrating to see that not much people giving credit to Rafa when he was the one winning us the CL trophy.
True that Houllier came out and claimed that most of the CL winning members were his signings. I do not deny that but I am very disappointed each and everytime when some of us claimed Rafa only won the CL trophy with Houllier signing. Then, they went on pointing out his flops signings, in the name of Josemi, Krompkamp and few others.
While I respect Houllier , I beg to differ and refused to agree to his claim
BLINDLY.
Few points I wish to highlight:
1. Most of Houllier's signings are average players: The likes of Biscan, Traore, Smicer... the list goes on...I hardly call those QUALITY players. Traore in particular, is probably one of the worst defender I ever seen. Poor positioning and low work rate. I still amazed by the fact that he can stayed in the team until 2006.
Thus, when rafa managed to utilize the squad given to him, which is average, credit should be given to him, no?
In addition to that, it is also worth noticing that that year, Carra was moved to center which bring out the best of him. Players like Garcia, Alonso also played a big part in helping the team to reach final. Something which certain group of fans still do not give credit to.
2. Once is lucky, twice is real abilityUnder Rafa, we went to CL final twice under Rafa. The second time we went there, the team was hardly anymore of GH's signings, eh? I hardly call it lucky. The fact that we managed to even kick Barcelona in their own ground said much of the brilliant tactical side of Rafa. Again, no one gives any credits.
So, why is it Rafa did not get the credit he is due for?

I've said it before, forget about Barca. Dortmund is the team we should look closely.
Young, driven and cheap. Aside from a couple familiar talents like Subotic and Hummels, i bet most of us can't even begin to pronounce the names of the other players.
They spent on average 5mil euro on a player. Kagawa cost them 350k euro. Players coming from far inferior leagues but end up winning Bundesliga twice in row. On top of that, they play good football. Not to mention their style of football is a lot more compatible to the English league than the Spaniards.
Reminds me of good signings like Hyypia.... Little money but quality players...
Tim Cahill is another one....
