QUOTE(Cloud0890 @ May 26 2012, 12:01 PM)
@Rotuham, I don't get it though, you called for Kenny to be sacked and then called for support of Martinez and yet you claim your views are consistent? Does it mean that March next year if Martinez isn't doing well like Kenny did you will be calling for his head again? Contradicting no? So much for YNWA...
*
guys, let's all be level headed here.

rotuham have his points about Dalglish failures, some of us did agree but many of us hoped he (KD) gets to right the wrong the following season. As events then turned out, no, he (KD) wasn't retained. As would how rotuham thinks FSG should react.

There are points from both sides, digest it & move on. come on. regrets should not be on the shoulders of the fans to carry us on. but positives, and renewed hope of a fresh new challenge.

We have to agree, if martinez (if he is confirmed) turns any less or similar to Roy, of course we'll be on his back. Martinez hasn't taken the job yet, hasn't criticise or said the wrong things at the lfc fans. we shouldn't be looking like thugs at the street lane giving him the eye.

what's wrong with gerrard backing martinez? being a captain, is he gonna say NO, the players want Mourino & lead a mutiny? shakehead.gif Let's get real. He's just a captain & throwing tantrums in the dressing room as how we were of the other clubs isnt liverpool, nor something i'm proud of our club.

He is getting older no doubt, but to those who dismiss him as ancient leach is disservice to our captain that at many occasions carried an average liverpool squad.

Only manu fans officially name rafa as 'fat waiter', as so my thoughts were maybe digi is a closet Manu fan.

Shhhesh, digi get a life dude.

We may have dislikes of certain players or managers, but we never disrespect our own. Only ex player or ex managers that lick the boots of the manager whoses name we shall not mention.

So what if Martinez is a spaniard. Isn't the football world champions and Europe champions from that country? They have shown and demonstrated even at club levels that they are a force to be reckon with. Many countries have acknowledge that they are a level or 2 behind.

Rafa may have faults but to ignore his contributions
to Liverpool just because he sold your favourite player is plain dumb

"Everybody hates rafa because he sold their favourite player 'alonso'. And in that Liverpool crashed out for CL"

Shhheeesh, Liverpool is not 1 man, even if at times it seems.

But as to all who doesn't know, Alonso tendered a transfer request. We had to sell.

Oh yes, digilife always had a wish that his dream team is managed by mourino. I suppose his admiration boils over to also watching sir alex and his mighty Manu. Fine, we respect that.

Open minds please. Have a read of what our great ex player Stephane henchoz thinks of martinez.

QUOTE
#askhenchoz: Who would u like as liverpool's next manager?

"I would give a chance to [Roberto] Martinez. Why? I like the man. I Iike his style of play, which I think it would suit Liverpool. He has experience of managing in the Premier League and he is the right age for now. If you give him a bit of time, I think he can be successful at Liverpool.

"If he gets the job, don't expect him to deliver in six months, it will take much longer than that but I like his philosophy. He knows the game very well and he's not coming with a very big name to do one or two final seasons in club football, like would be the case with someone like Capello. I wouldn't see the point of bringing in someone like Capello because Liverpool know they need to rebuild and will probably need new players but they might not have the money to go and buy the very best players. If you can't buy the absolute best players, you need a manager who can not only spot players but develop them as well.

"Some people talk about how he has never managed a big club before but one day he has to manage a bigger club. That's how football generally works. Managers do well at smaller clubs and attract interest from bigger clubs. At Swansea, he had the team playing nice football and at Wigan, with the squad they got, they have done tremendously well. They've beaten Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal - all the big clubs.

"You have to take a bit of a risk when you employ a new manager so if your only concern is that he has not managed a top club before, I would be ready to take that risk on him."

We are required to pay up to 2-3m compensation to Wigan for Martinez though, not exactly cheap...
*
considering what RA paid for AVB to get him to chelsea, then dropped him when the seniors didn't quite totlly agree with him. 2-3million is whistling.gif

word is Wigan's chairman has asked martinez to make up his mind (they too then need to prepare for a new manager, to be fair)

Accepting the offer at liverpool would mean losing some control of the youth/academy at liverpool (which apparently martinez has a hand too in developing wigan youth side).

martinez is another workaholic, like our other spaniard that use to manage us.

one of my friends (lfc fan too) commented, if only carroll had score as often and contribute/assist more as he should as a striker and not just "do enough" towards the end season, as to just to force or justify his call to england/euro squad then we could have save liverpool's season. (suarez was forced out on suspension, & honestly his (carroll) goals return for liverpool is quite embarassing)

My friends other fear is after euro, if carroll dont up his workrate & return to his absent striker syndrome for liverpool then no god fearing manager of the world can do anything to save our season. mind you even capello had remarked that carroll needs to rethink his lifestyle if wants to realise his potential.

if that,s true, then martinez either turn down LFc or commits to wigan as he's scheduled to have a press conference tomorrow (tuesday)

Its just recycled news. Not like we didn't knew these 2 were rumoured to be approached.

SoS did propose a community-share system that would follow / emulate the ones used in the giant Italian / Spanish clubs. This would then help to raise the cash.

If my memory serves me right, even the Mancunians are a public-listed entity.

Definitely not a sad day for Liverpool... Imagine Martinez's wigan has been loitering in the relegation zone season after season... Avb has been given the chance to manage big club cfc, similarly in lfc I don't think he can make us fearful to our opponent... Swansea has secured their next season Bpl campaign as early as lfc conceded their hope for top four finish this season... Btw avb Martinez and swanseas manager with no doubt i will choose the latter any day.. Let's see what can be done with the current players we have under him...

looking to have brendan rodgers to bark at henderson, adam & downing.

one thing is also certain, we look to be retaining the trio plus andy carrol. what other reinforcements? kuyt & maxi is likely to move on. rodgers may pick only one of the two between aquilani and joe cole. (i'm guessing cole)

a few more faces should come in. No big names, probably rodgers mean outlook can scare out opponents before they play is at anfield cool2.gif

QUOTE(Duke Red @ May 31 2012, 02:47 PM)
When Kenny was around, a lot of speculation was made over whether or not he was signing players in anticipation of two rules, Financial FairPlay and the HG rule. In truth, if neither is implemented we just wasted a full season. I'm not too sure about the latter of the two rules but an interview with a Deloitte representative caught my attention as I was watching BBC. It prompted me to search for this article.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18248540

I can see why this is a matter of concern. If you spend some 75% of your revenue on wages, how much is left for development of facilities, academy players and so on? Very little is reinvested into the club.

Towards the end of the article, you'll note that if by the 2013-2014 season, clubs do not abide by Financial FairPlay, they'll not be allowed to participate in UEFA competitions. So FSG was right review our wage bill which means that older players on pretty big salaries will be leaving the club before the season begins. Cue the likes of Maxi and Kuyt leaving in preference on younger players who earn less. This also means that we'll be relying more on the Academy to churn out players and we'll have to wheel and deal in the transfer market. Clubs like Chelsea and Man city will now have one season to adapt.

English football as a whole may suffer because taxes are high and they can no longer afford to pay big players massive wages to lure them away from other leagues where taxes are substantially lower, or at least they can't pay too many players massive salaries. Clubs like Liverpool and Man Utd will actually benefit from this compared to our rivals as we already have large fanbases and a stream of revenue to tap on.

Liverpool has to get to,their act soon. It has been anticipated that manu will consume the whole of Asia by the going rate. (Observation from foreigners I met in our travels ohmy.gif )

DR, some fans are like chameleons.

hope (BR) he doesn't turn into another RH (flavour of the month manager),... we been cautioned by a Reading fc fan about expecting (too much) from BR.

signs seem to be slightly encouraging (base on CV). most loyal fans will wait and see.

we are likely to see quite bit of movement of the old guards (read this on BR preferences of youth/younger > older players).

thoughts

swansea Joe Allen (22 years old) and midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to Anfield? (reports say we are linked to them, and BR may want some continuity)

i think Brendan Rodgers is highly ambitious. which is good. he's willing to get out of UK to spain.

he does seem to have the chip of audacious swagger around him. playing his cards close to the chest, while openly dismissing the first link from FSG, then reeled in when FSG met him on wednesday.

QUOTE(led_zep_freak @ Jun 2 2012, 01:48 AM)
Here's a good take on the appointment, something for the Rafa fans as well.
*

QUOTE
If you take Rafa’s first three clubs after his sabbatical; Tenerife, Valencia and Liverpool his win percentage rises to an impressive 54.41% but then that gives Rafa the advantage of having far better players at his disposal.

While working on work experience for LFCTV and as part of the RedmenTV team I’ve been lucky enough to have met him, and from my encounters he is one of the most dignified, impressive, knowledgeable and humble men I’ve ever met, and it vexes me everytime I hear anyone disparage his legacy at the club or his character, and find myself defending him as if he were one of my own family.

i not even met RB the person. yet i feel i would welcome him as family if i ever get to met him in person. blush.gif

rafa never stops working. he a busy man, always shuttling to conferences, i can never understand the disparaging remarks about this man esp from fellow kopites. he'has sacrificing everything he had for this club, in a way reshaped us from the academy to.. i'm not sure if the tea lady too but even the news has got people from the great barcelona acknowledging the standards tht are set.

maybe as they said, RB had his time. its unfortunate it ended the way it ended. i believe we could have be much more. anyway godspeed to RB

BR is no different in the sense he too sets out a high pressing game. i don't know if this sits well with some of us who felt KD's pass and move is superior or other wise. I can't comment except last season, i did wish we have variations in our game/strategy to be on top of things. There was a comment that perhaps BR wasn't quite successful at ReadingFc was probably his approach was too technical or too advance for a club of Reading. (not the players that can enforce his gameplay)

Well it appears gerrard was in the know who we were going for all along. wonder if he was 'consulted' the type of manager what may fit in or was just passing the message down.. cool2.gif

Nah, come to think of it both players are our weak links. I hope he could convince Aquilani to stay, it would give us a better balance in the middle.

Also, with the new system Joe Cole could probably do well. I don't see us keeping him for longer than a season due to his age and wages though.

much as i would love aquilani to try out but Lfc is hoping another foreign team to pay his wages. (if i'm not mistaken, local vs foreign players tax structure is different)

Hazard joining Chelsea for 32mil. That's 3mil less than what we paid for Andy Carroll. Good lord.

Again, it is times like these that makes me think what could have happen to Liverpool last season if we didn't blew off our coffers on Brit boys. That maybe the only window where FSG are willing to splash the cash on players, because Henry & Co need to earn the supporters' trust after they took over.

Now looks like we are going the moneyball way. Will FSG's sabermetric approach that brought them success in baseball work in EPL? Only time will tell. By the way, anybody knows what is the current status of the Boston Red Sox team? Are they still standing strong in MLB or faded out after 2008?

I don't expect BR to win anything in his first year but I would certainly love to see an improvement in the team.

Now, STOP losing to mid table teams in EPL. That should be a good start.

"well" blush.gif

some might say eden hazard isnt proven premiership player yet... blink.gif

i wanna leave the comparison for now what 'could have been had we..' instead on the british lads.

i think and looking forward the work of brendan rodgers vision for Lfc
