QUOTE(liverpool red @ May 30 2012, 10:13 AM)
Praying hard this euro will be the launchpad for our england players to start performing (especially Caroll and Downing) and if they have a good tournament, then next season will look more brighter.

Personally, i doubt we can attract the big names anymore. Its sad but true. Would be great if we can get a Cisse like success (Newcastle) player this season. If we do not get into the CL again by end of next season, the damage will be even more deep.

Sigh, these couple of seasons have been so demoralising. But we march on nevertheless. YNWA

the only big names that join us was Torres..others like xabi, masch is not a big name player before they join us..suarez willing to join us eventho he knew we're not in the CL..so its not a be all end all situation..the most important thing is buy players that suits our gameplay..not buy them becoz they're big names

anyway, imho alonso & masch were not really unknown players, they already make a buzz in their respected country and clubs were scouting for them. liverpool and rafa helps them to become well known players.

*
they quite known in europe..but to say that they're big name players absolutely not!..only after they join liverpool they became big name across europe..we buy xabi for only 10m that time! biggrin.gif

I like his philosophy. Possession play. I hope he brings over Joe Allen. That guy's a beast. Think a much better version of what Jordan Henderson was supposed to be.

But i remain skeptical. For examples of overachieving mid-table team manager managing a big club, see Hodgson.
*
Rogers is never like Hodgson..watch swans played already a big difference there...possession futbol tika taka english style!...Hodgson came from english football school..whereas Rogers came from different school..latino+spanish to be exact..the first backroom staff that Mourinho hired when he manage Chelsea nod.gif

Welcome on board BR.

Just a top 4 finish next season will be good.

Recapture the Carling Cup and have another shot at the FA Cup would be a boost.

So long its not Rafa, we should have exiting times ahead and hopefully FSG will support this latest sign up.

Brenden the Prince , a nice phrase........ smile.gif

Hope it wont turn out into "Brenden Fraser" and mummyfied us, best remembered for the 3 Mummy flims  biggrin.gif

and if he cant get top 4 u want him got sack or what? rolleyes.gif

I don't think the supporters have an issue with his style of football. Thing is unless he has full control, will he be able to bring in the players and mould the existing ones? For years Rafa tried to get us to play like his Valencia but it never really materialised.
*
well..if he can turn chelsea reject like scott sinclair into a good player..i cant see why he cant mould our players into his playing style..from what i read Brendan is a great man manager..very close to his players..and in return his players are very loyal to him..i think thats one of the reason why Rafa not that successful in implementing his Valencia philosophy to liverpool players

i believe BR will be given only 1 season to prove himself, if he fail to get liverpool to top 4 he will get the boot, and seems like his 1st action is sacking SC?

well, erm, Liverpool arent considered a top team anymore, we might be just like everton, or worst like leeds

Swansea fear Allen will follow Rodgers to Anfield... but Liverpool will have to pay at least £10m

Liverpool expect to unveil Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers as their manager this morning and he is believed to be considering a bid for the Welsh club’s young midfielder Joe Allen.
Rodgers has agreed a three-year deal to succeed Kenny Dalglish, although negotiations looked set to be held up by a wrangle over compensation. However, the Carling Cup winners have agreed to pay the £5million that was in Rodgers’ contract.

He has been told he can spend this summer and Sportsmail can reveal that, as well as attempting to hijack Swansea’s £6.8m move for Hoffenheim’s Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, Rodgers wants his old club’s highly-rated Wales playmaker Allen, whom he sees as the type of player he needs to transfer his pass-and-move style of football to Anfield. That will cast doubts on the futures of Liverpool midfielders such as Charlie Adam.
Allen, 22 and a product of the Swansea youth system, is known as a creative midfielder player and played 44 times last season. With three years left on his contract, Rodgers may have to pay in excess of £10m to sign him.

Swansea are sure to fight hard to hang on to Allen, especially as Rodgers is already taking three members of his backroom staff to Anfield.
The 39-year-old has been given the go-ahead by Liverpool owners FSG to bring assistant manager Colin Pascoe, head of performance analysis Chris Davies and performance consultant Glen Driscoll to Anfield.

Swansea confirmed that compensation had been agreed for all three and their appointments will be finalised. Dalglish’s assistant Steve Clarke has had one resignation offer rejected at Anfield but it is understood that he will now leave.

Rodgers has been told there are no huge expectations for his debut season, while he has indicated to the owners that Liverpool are a club in need of major change and that will take time.

Is 10mil sound to overprice to me only?

nahhhh..i dont think FSG hired a young manager only to give him 1 season to turnaround liverpool....they can make more safer option in hiring experience big name manager like Van Gaal etc...but still they gambled on a young manager...proved that they willing to give him time..of course laaa with condition like improvement in league table etc

QUOTE(mercury8400 @ Jun 1 2012, 08:34 PM)
I'm not saying he's not a winner.
I'm merely saying he may not have the track record to manage such a big club like Liverpool.
Granted, he did well with Swansea with limited resources. but that was over 2 season (which, by no means, considered a "track record")
Also remembered he didn't excatly do well with Watford and Reading.
And to now manager a club as big as Liverpool, is i think, asking too much of him.

Rafa and Mourinho were different.
They were Champions League winner as well as domestic league winners with Valencia and Porto respectively.
Managing in the championship or even managing a very respectable 11th place in the EPL is one thing, guiding your team to win the domestic league and the Champions League is another completely different thing all together.

Yes. Every manager has to start from somewhere.
But that dosen't have to be with such a big club.
He could have gone to Aston Villa or some other mid table clubs and build reputation from there.
Managing at Liverpool is like throwing a small boy who just learnt how to swim into the wide open ocean.

Further with so many choices around, why Rodgers?
Why go for someone untested and unproven (2 sucessful season is hardly considered as a good track record more so that he did not win any throphies)?

This is not moaning. It's call reflecting. Reminiscent about our past failures in transfer market in order to prevent future occurrence of the same mistake. Comprende?

True but the main engines that operate Barcelona are Iniesta and Xavi, and the both of them are central midfielders. Without these two there's just now way Barcelona will be a team they are now. Who IS our engine? Gerrard?

jerat + gylfi??? rolleyes.gif

if we want to follow barca way..Carroll should be drop & be replace by skilful forward..problem is they dont come cheap
