Uncle Benny the ics modem you uploaded just now.. Can it be flashed via recovery? Tried to in mobile Odin but when I click modem I can't view the downloaded file...
Also I'm now on alba v3 is it safe?
*
You must extract the zip file till you see modem.bin. Copy this modem.bin file to either external or internal sd.
In mobile odin, select modem and browse for this modem.bin file
You can safely flash any modem file in any rom

Sori uncle. When i try to open mobile odin after flash the ics rom then i cant open it anymore. It say my phone was not root.
*
I said test first superuser/SU - you have to update its binary files. Than only test mobile odin.

so most custom ICS are better than this one laa. now the only reason to use Official ICS is Premium Suites rite?
so if wanna have Premium Suites + vanilla ICS experience, the only way is Official + nova/apex?
*
Yes but using Nova/Apex launcher , you will not be able to use most of Samsung widgets ( accuweather, time widget, calendar etc) except S memo and S Bookmarks

Okok got it guess have to wait till I get home to use the pc to extract the file

Uncle Benny what do you think of alba v4? From the forum seems they did not bundle the premium suit into this version
*
You can easily use astro file manager to extract the zip file
I did not try this Alba V4 yet - so no comments on whether the premium suite is included. It is strange if it is not included as developer upgraded his rom based on the latest German ICS

According to TS in post#2095 , he said : Sorry guys, just now see his repack...
Premium pack in Rom, not deleted or removed any apps...

hi Sugar CC,
now i am testing the lite'ning rom (GB) together with speedmod, seems ok but less people talking about it.
How's the cassie's xtralite rom?
does it save battery a lot?
*
Why you are always so concerned about battery life ? Just get another spare battery - solve all your battery issues
If you want to compare roms battery life, even a better rom will not give you several hours more, the most possibly 1-2 hours only

A tip to improve it :
Turn on the 2d Rendering from Developers Options and change animations to .5x instead of 1x.

Send in unit to claim warranty if black pixelation is obvious

QUOTE(esdome @ May 11 2012, 10:47 AM)
uncle benny, how do i know whether my current kernal is safe or not?
*
According to forum XDA : all ICS kernels based on LP1/LP5/LP6 ( Chinese leaked ) is not safe - so such roms are deem unsafe as they are using these kernels :
Touchwiz based : Midnote, Alba, KingDroid
AOPK roms : Stunner, Cyanofree, Liquid

Safe roms are Cyanogen9 and those Touchwiz based roms that switch to use Entropy kernel

However safe or not safe, I leave it to you to judge. Entropy the kernel developer who vouch that his kernel is safe has said the chance of hard bricking your phone probably is only few % of users and for those users who always flash their phones . Such users might possibly faced ahrd brick at one point and again is unsure whether it will really happen. So there is always a element of doubt in his claims.
His claim has even " force" one of the developer to pull off his post about how to use Abyss Kernel 4.2 only to restore any ICS roms with full root enabled
As Entropy claim wiping data, cache from these leak kernels is detrimental to the phone internal storage over time and can slowly destriyed its partitions causing a possible hard brick

Now that the official ICS is released, all the developers will soon over the next few days convert their kernels to the official release base and tweak it from there

If you are on ICS, safest is still use the default kernel based on official rom. Download it CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.3-CWM5.zip :

benny, im still on stunner .19 with the leaked kernel LP5 & i wanna try the new official modem.

In CWM, flash Abyss 3.9 or 4.2 kernel first before flashing modem?

After flashed the modem, how to revert back to LP5 kernel b4 i restart my phone? TIA.
or should i just use mobile odin without worrying about the kernel?
*
Use mobile Odin to flash it
No need concern over kernel

Noted. So before i flash to any rom. I need to confirm the compatibility of the kernal right?

Which mean before i flash from GB to ICS, i need to use CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LPY-v5.3-CWM5.

Or if i want to flash from ICS to GB, i need to use Abyss 3.9.

Correct me if i'm wrong.  notworthy.gif
*
I don't know what you really want to do
Your questions are inconsistent n contradictory

You want to flash official ics just flash it no need worry about its kernel ad it comes with the rom. Unless you are already on ics unsafe kernel than flash cf lp kernel

From ics to gb you decide which method you want to use. If use odin in PC just flash the gb rom. No need worry about kernel. If you want to use recovery mode you can flash abyss 4.2 n use it to flash gb rom

uncle benny, if i wan restore back to other ics rom or gb rom from alba v4, issit just flash abyss 4.2 or 3.9 then restore?
*
Always use abyss 4.2 so that your restore will come back with full root
I have pointed out earlier today, the developer who has proposed to use only Abyss 4.2 only to restore back any GB or ICS roms has pull out his post . This is because of entropy warning, doing any stuffs from the leaked ICS ( LP1/LP5/LP6) kernel could be dangerous
However I have yet to have any problems restoring back GB or ICS roms from any ICS roms ( based on LP5/LP6 kernel).

I only run into problems this morning ( I have posted about this n also in my blog) doing recovery directly from the stock LPY recovery of the German build ICS

QUOTE(esdome @ May 11 2012, 03:19 PM)
LOL. I apologize for the confusion.  sweat.gif

I'm currently with Stunner 1.4.19 with leaked Kernal. To avoid by any chance getting hardbrick, i'm plan to flash to stock GB with a safe kernal by this weekend and wait for the official ICS.

Since the official ICS has been launched few days back. I might go ahead and get a try, but i see some of the Gnote owner here is facing some lagginess issue of the phone. So, i'm asking some questions to flash the rom between GB and ICS before i start the flash.

I don't quite understand about the kernal, and if it might get my phone hardbricked by using leaked kernal (i'm using it now). So it would be better to be more cautious before anything happen.  tongue.gif
*
It is safe to flash from Stunner directly to the German ICS build. No need to change any recovery.
You flash using Odin in PC - no need concern about present kernel
You flash thro Mobile Odin - it goes thro your Stunner LP5 kernel recovery - and this is making users nervous as LP5 kernel is deem unsafe. But so far no users has reported bricking using it to flash the German build. If you worry , than use MObile Odin to flash first the LPY kernel first if you don't mind the extra work. Personally I feel is not necessary and just a waste of time and effort. Do it if you wish

thanks! i read that in your blog too..then u said u success install 3.9 then restore back to gb....but as long as can restore back to my older rom with full root, then i am fine..  smile.gif
*
You can restore back to any GB rom with full root using Abyss 3.9 but NOT any ICS rom. For restoring ICS roms with full root must use only Abyss 4.2
As uniformity I always advise just use Abyss 4.2 for both to avoid any further explanation
