Just updated mine using Mobile Odin. I flash it on top of Cyanogen9 rom. I select wipe cache/data. Whole process just took about 4 mins only including final bootup. Thereafter I use Mobile Odin to flash CF root kernel to have CWM 5.0.27 installed

YES . It is better this way to avoid the original kernel being overwritten while in midst of reboot

*
Root is not lost ; if lost how am I going to use Mobile Odin
You lose CWM after flash. Need to install this back using CF kernel

Still can't. Did it many times. Even tried downgrading to LC2, getting bootloops.
I think my Vietnamese Note hates official stuff.
*
Manually boot to stock recovery - select wipe data and cache should do the trick to boot it successfully

Sorry for asking a silly question. i back up all user apps and system data in my external sd. I running gb stock rom with speedmod kernel.

after i flash the ICS, how do i restore all my apps, contacts , message and picture?
*
Backup your apps and data with Titanium Backup and just restore all of it from TB
For system data - select restore data only
Your other data - eg music files, pictures , videos in the internal SD card viewable partition will not be deleted ; only stuffs in the hidden 2 GB partition will be deleted only
SMS : backup n restore using app SMS Backup & Restore - 100% good backup and 100% restore back - free app , works across all Android versions from Eclair to ICS

Just completed my restore from TB - perfect all apps/data installed back, with no errors and no FC. Took me 15 mins to restore back everything

Imilka's CM9.

Added on May 10, 2012, 8:46 pmFor those having doubts about the laggyness of it, the rumours are true.
Swiping through the app drawer and home screen feels kinda sluggish.
*
Change the launcher to Nova or Apex and laggyness gone.

ALBA has released his v4 of his ICS rom based on the official German ICS
Those on Alba rom v3 , just update it instead of flashing the official German version

How to update? My note was preroot gb. Just use pc odin just like i did b4 this to preroot my note or how???
*
You can use Mobile ODin or use Odin in PC to flash the tar file
Using PC in Odin will remove root while using Mobile Odin will retain root

I expect within the next 2-3 days, all existing ICS roms will be upgraded based on this German ICS . SO no more unsafe kernel issue

I assume you flash the ics thro pc odin. If you want root flash this prerooted version of the German ics. It was just released. Do it with odin in pc

Added on May 11, 2012, 7:55 amThe modem in the german ics is impressive
Those who wishes just to upgrade their baseband can consider upgrading to it
Flash the modem.bin file from mobile odin

Uncle benny i flash the ics using mobile odin lite not using pc odin because my previous gb was preroot gb. Then how? Is it my note become unroot after i flash ics?
*
Than why you say your phone is now unrooted
Mobile odin will not remove root
Test superuser app to update it n test run mobile odin again to confirm root stays

Anyone found out if one were to restore from nandroid, do we still have to flash to abyssnote kernel 4.2 or just directly through the LPY-v5.3-CWM5 is good enough already?
*
No need for abyss anymore as far as I know
I will test restore back my old cm9 rom n update later

UPDATE : A mess I got myself into
I tried to restore back my Cyanogen9 rom using the default recovery - sytem restore fail halfway and phone cannot boot back - hung at the Samsung logo
Boot back to recovery and select reset - same problem, phone cannot boot back
Tried to reinstall Abyss Kernel 4.2 - installation hung halfway and freeze . Test this again - same
Use the default recovery and tried to restore back my German ICS rom - restore system fail halfway
Boot back to recovery and noted Clockworkmod recovery changed to 5.5.0.4 which was Cyanogen9 default recovery
Tried reinstall Abyss kernel 4.2 - failed
Tried restore backup of Cyanogen9 and German ICS - both failed and phone restart and hung
Last resort - tested install Abyss kernel 3.9 - install sucess. Boot to recovery at advanced and select restore back my old GB rom ( Cassie LC1) - successfully restore with full root

So, a TIP to all users - DON'T attempt to do any restore using the default recovery ; seems is still quite problematic

Anyway I will flash back to Cyanogen9 rom now as I find the German ICS is still sluggish versus pure AOPK ICS such as Cyanogen9 and Cyanofree/Liquid. Only thing I cannot use the great S Note

QUOTE(mr hellscream @ May 11 2012, 09:37 AM)
so Germany ICS + Nova/Apex any good? less laggy than ICS+TW?
*
It definitely remove the stock Touchwiz laggyness. But I would still say even Alba V3 ( on leaked LP5 kernel) performs better than this stock German ICS - it is smoother and slicker. So those who wish to try ICS Touchwiz based, I strongly recommend flash Alba V4 instead as it is now upgraded based on this German ICS build. So no more worry about unsafe kernel

I never have this issue at all on my Note even on stock Gingerbread
