QUOTE(hackwire @ May 24 2012, 01:50 PM) yes, always penang kia. The current situation in Puchong hill is that the Forestry Dept does not care to connect themselves with the public living in Puchong. My guess is that these officers are not even staying in Puchong and they care less about the plight of the people. I have checked it's website and they are doing very poorly in conducting event and also connecting with Puchong folks. I go into their facebook page and it has no plan to organize and events or jungle trekking for the public. In fact, one foreigner did a better website promoting Malaysian Nature as compare to our govt. Fast fast get Ng Yen Yen to set up a RM3 million website to promote Puchong Hill. If got photo op with the press in attendance, she sure layan wan. |

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ May 25 2012, 11:36 PM) Don't know is due to the fault of my Sanyo automatic bread maker or the expired yeast, i cant produce a good home made whole meal bread lately . The bread can not raise. So no choice but to buy the ready baked ones. hmmm, no idea, I never use bread machine. QUOTE(aeiou228 @ May 26 2012, 03:23 PM) My home baked bread no put preservative and softener, so must eat fast fast. If keep in the fridge, the next day texture become a bit harder liau. Must toast or steam first before eating. Then slice the bread and put in freezer. It will retain moisture that way. It won't take long to defrost, or you can toast it in the oven for 5 min first on medium to low heat. |

This morning quite a number of people turned up to meet the Forestry Dept person, then the UPM people and our MP Goh Beng Seng and the Kinrara Assemblywoman Teresa Kok. The UPM people say that they need to keep the place free of interference for their research - scared the public will simply throw rubbing everywhere, tebang pokok, camp there, cause soil erosion, etc, and scared the litter will cause the rats to come and bring leptospirosis, then everyone in the area kena. The Forestry Dept man say yes there is the law, denda this, penjara that if you go into the forest reserve, but suggest there is room for compromise so everyone can benefit in some way from the forest. The message from Goh Beng Seng and Teresa Kok seems to be there should be a way to set aside part of the forest for use by the public to hike and enjoy the forest.
Anyway, the real boundary of the forest reserve only begins some way up the trail from Wawasan 5. There is a large buffer zone before that that belongs to the Selangor State Govt. So I think what most of the regular hikers want is for all the stakeholders to work together to identify a clearly marked hiking trail that will not interfere with the research conducted by UPM, and probably for a society or committee comprising the regular hikers to work together with the UPM people to maintain this. After that Teresa Kok insisted on going up the hill to see for herself. Wah lau, she nearly made it to the top, the highest point that Stimix and Ozak and me reached that time after our SPM. |

QUOTE(hackwire @ May 28 2012, 01:33 AM) Teresa KoK is great.. so what's the outcome? Can we still hike for time being till they zone it. what's the solution to stop people from throwing rubbish? If you don't see any nasty men posted at the trailhead at wawasan 5 glaring at you, that means you can still go ahead and hike lor. Quite a number of people were merrily hiking up and down the trail that yesterday while the dialogue session was going on with all the UPM people there. The outcome is UPM will have a meeting with representatives from the hiking community in Puchong to see where we go from here.QUOTE(stimix @ May 28 2012, 09:02 AM) Hehe.. QUOTE(ronnie @ May 28 2012, 11:17 PM) I think it is. When I signed up for the Celebrity Fitness membership, they told me their booth was next to Kenny Rogers, so I presume the thing is already set up, though I can't say I actually noticed whether it was open or not. |

I used to live right next to something similar. The developer sold the shoplots to individual buyers and years later, the mall is still a ghost mall, most of the shutters are down. I don't think there was any real management for the mall as a whole. In the end, it was the owners of the shoplots who got together to try and bring in an anchor tenant. One came and left and now, finally, there's a supermarket there. But the place is still pretty much dead. Setia Walk is somewhat different in that there already are a couple of big players that will draw the crowds. Furthermore, there is a definite catchment area with fairly relaxed competition, unlike my former place, where everyone just went to straight to IKEA-The Curse-TESCO and couldn't be bothered with the wannabe mall next door. So for example, I quickly switched gyms from fitness first at IOI Mall to Celebrity Fitness in Setia Walk when the latter started selling memberships. Who wants to go to IOI Mall when you can get what you want closer home?
