Hi, I just bought a new Ipad 3 with 64GB/4G in Penang and found that the top 1/3 of the screen has a noticeable yellow tint which is also darker while the bottom 2/3 is bright white. While reading text on white background, it is very distracting and tortuous due to the two tones display. This is even apparent on the keyboard while on landscape, i.e., one side is yellowish and darker while the other is plain white and brighter. Altering the overall brightness does not mitigate the problem. If the tint is uniform throughout, or even if the brightness is slightly uneven, the matter may not be too big an issue. But uneven tint on a large area is terrible. My previous Ipad 2 as well as family members' existing Ipad 2 and Ipad 1 do not display such irregularity. Does anyone have the same issue with the new Ipad? Tks.

Return it back and exchange a new one. It's definitely a manufacturer's defect

Some claim it's normally caused by the glue and will disappear for sometime but if it's too obvious then send it back to the Apple Service Centre to claim for a warranty. Since the new iPad is just launch in Malaysia, they might replace a new set for you.

I have the same issue. There are many other cases reported in other forums, most of them return their devices and have them exchanged, but it took several exchanges before they get one with a perfect screen.
I bought mine from Courts. Do I bring it back there or somewhere else?

Try Machines Midvalley.

I'll bring it to Switch, Apple's service provider in Penang tomorrow and hope it can be rectified. Noting that only Teddy has a similar issue, we must be particularly unlucky among so many buyers. Will update on the outcome. Tks.

Is there any time frame where I can exchange the iPad? I would like to run it for a while more to see if the tint subside (low chances though). Should have bought it from an Apple Premium Reseller, now I have to deal with furniture salesperson who probably have little interest in looking at my device's defect. (They'll question why you never swap days after you noticed it etc etc) Bring your iPad and have it swapped asap, that's what I recommend. Waiting for the residue to dry off is a chances you are willing to take

If it doesn't get better in a few days, I will bring it in. I think it's OK to swap it within one week, since Apple's official policy is two weeks (I know Courts is not an Apple Store, but still). Secondly, I have spent RM35 on my screen protector. I hope I won't have to fork out another RM35 again.

Good luck, i'm sure you'll be able to swap if it doesn't get better.

I did call them earlier; they asked me to seek help from Apple's local service provider, which in this case is Switch. Tks for the link. It does seem the matter is more prevalent in the US. We are the very unlucky FEW in this country.

After reading from the link you indicated, the issue may not be resolved by user's own method of full brightness burn-in for a couple of days. But if you do try that procedure, hope it works so that it reflects another alternative to sending in to the repair shop, which I've never done before on an Apple product.

I'm now putting it to 100% brightness and in a case, the bottom side (near home button) is burning right now, but the top is only slightly warm, perhaps insufficiently warm to make any difference. This isn't going to be fun.

Getting Started

|
To those who feel that their iPad is running too warm, I just wanna share my thoughts and a bit of my usage habits.
For brightness, I set it at about four-tenth of the brightness with auto brightness off. This way, the screen won't be too bright till it hurts your eyes (100% brightness is just plain crazy, IMHO), but bright enough not to strain your eyes.
I'm using a smart cover, and as I love to caress the silky smooth naked back of my iPad, I'm not using any extra cases.
In these settings, I've been using my iPad for hours on end, playing games, editing photos on iPhoto, reading books, surfing the net and even FaceTiming with my girl. And all the while my iPad did not run uncomfortably warm. Just lukewarm, not even as bad as my iPhone after a long phone call. Oddly enough, playing games did not make it even lukewarm, but reading does ...
I hope this helps. Enjoy your iPad. I know I'm enjoying mine immensely.
Btw, my screen is perfect~! So, I'm thanking all that's holy that my unit turns out perfect!
