I don't know if this is applicable for the K5 but the air recirculation is suppose to shut itself off on start up. For all Euro cars, including Mercedes Benz etc, it will shut off after awhile to let fresh air in if the air recirculation has been switched on. Upon engine startup, the air recirculation system is OFF by default as well even if it was switched on when you engine off the car.

http://www.euro-gasman.com/PDFs/C2%20Examp...s%20Testing.pdf

They have some safety law in Euro that states the amount of CO2 present in an enclosed space cannot exceed a certain amount for a certain period of time. Seeing that the newer KIAs are all designed and have European designers, they may have adopted the same system.

It LOOKS like the K5 air conditioning system also has a CO2 sensor like a lot of the European cars to comply to this safety law.
My aircon has a bad smell for the first 5 secs after a cold start. Ive had this problem before with my Toyota Vios and its not easy to get rid. I believe its due to mold on the fins or evaporator.

On Saturday, i saw 5 different Kia Optima's around PJ in the space of 3 hours. Good sign i would say. Also saw an equal number of Sonata's too.

I just filled 80.26L of fuel today. Damn! Dunno why Kia claims the tank capacity is 70L.

you may be finished your fuel to the max..bro never do that cause it can ruin your fuel pump life span..the tank capacity 70l but there is always small reservation between tank to fuel pump. that means u had kaw kaw used till it dry... yawn.gif   rclxub.gif
Its always good to know your maximum range. Ive done this on previous cars as well. This comes in handy in emergencies.

The reason why you can almost always fill more than your tank's capacity is because the max fuel sensor is not really located at the brim of the tank. Thats why if u really fill, the first bar takes ages to drop, but subsequent bars are much faster. Same with other cars too.

But my question is, how come we can fill up to 10L more than the specified tank capacity? I can understand about 4 or even 5L max, but 10L??? rclxub.gif

Omg! You must really leave your tank really empty before filling.. I only get bout 67 liters the most when the last bar of the petrol indicator starts blinking..
Most of the time, i fill between 72-76L of fuel. Very rarely i fill below 70L. My previous record was 78.95L when i first got the car. But now ive managed 80.26L. My distance travelled was 780km. This consisted of 80% highway driving at 160-170kmph and the rest in city traffic. Quite good i must say. The fuel economy is improving as the car gets more mileage. biggrin.gif

thats a very daring try bro, but scary...
At least now u guys know that u can fill up to 80L. So dont worry too much when the last bar starts blinking. I travelled about 40km after that.

That's only about 9.7 km/l. Would that be considered good for 80% highway? Though you were going at 160-170 kmh.
Say, at that speed what is your rpm?
I wuold say that was quite good as it was a high rev drive without eco. If you know the eco mode well enough, ull know that on highway drives, our gearing is quite often on 4th - 5th as you need to slow down and speed up quite often especially if there is traffic. Plus, fuel economy really drops in city driving in KL especially. Your first gear consumption can sometimes hit 90L/100km so in stop start traffic that will really eat into your fuel economy.

Well at 200kmph, the RPM is at 4100.

i managed to get 765k. Filled up petrol only 70ltr, distance to end 800km. Damn save a lot..like this car very much.
Push it another 50km the next time and check your range. Distance to empty will depend on your previous tank's fuel economy.

fren say so far...got any nearest??
he is dilemma between buying sonata or K5,he already tested sonata and he dunno where can test K5

how about this place??got test drive unit?

NAZA KIA MALAYSIA KOTA DAMANSARA
No 57-G,
59-G & 59-1,
D'strand,
Jln Pju 5/20E,
Kota Damansara,
47810, P.J,
Selangor
The test drive will not sure much difference between the Sonata and Optima. The main difference would be on paper. The Optima offers so much more specs for the same price. Its a clear step above the Sonata. Clear choice as well.

So you finally went with the Assy 2 eh? Much better tyre compared to Michelin PS3 i think. Hows the ride difference compared to the stock Nexen?

Guys, ive got something to share about the Optima auto transmission. I did a test yesterday. I made the following conclusions:

1) If you use the paddle shifters to manually change gears, the gearbox automatically up shifts when the RPM is high enough
2) If you use the gear itself (+,-), the auto upshifts are only for the Gear 1, 2 & 3 while it will hold at either 4,5 & 6 unless you upshift yourself
3) I found the acceleration in the first 3 gears is better using the gear shifting compared to the paddle shifters

i was quite impressed with the acceleration using the gear shifts as compared to the paddle shifters. I think it really harnesses the 163Hp and 198Nm of torque available (at its set RPM's).

Has anybody tried this before?

if u RPM reach a certain limit it will auto change gear for u~ this is KIA car setting~
Yes but only happens in the first 3 gears and only if u are using the gear shifters not the paddle shifters. If you use the paddles, the gear automatically changes for all 6 gears once you reach a certain RPM. Not many ppl know this im sure. So if you want a more spirited drive, use the gear shifters and not the paddle shifters. Ull see the difference.

But i dont know why the acceleration for the first 3 gears seems better when using the gear shifter as compared to the paddles.

Gonna do custom made coil mat from sh@rty once i get the car at same day if possible and also planning to do coating. Any recommendations for coating?
Just do Sierra Glow. Many of us have done it at USJ. Its only RM700 for K5 owners and comes with 5 year warranty. Dont spend money on other coatings. Even if Sierra Glow only lasts 2 years, its still a good investment.
