Hello guys,

sorry in advance if this is posted on the wrong section.

Would like to ask opinions on which would be the best printer for home use for printing pics on photo paper?
Canon / HP ???
It would be a dedicated printer just for pics, very very less for documents.
A printer which does sharp results would be appreciated smile.gif

Thanks

My Canon pixma MG5270 seems to give good results. drinks ink like water though, i only print pictures casually also feel like I've spent more on the ink than on the printer icon_idea.gif

U wan.print 4R.only u have good choice for thermal transfer type. If u wanted to print.huge A4(8R) u stuck with inkjet printing which afraid of water and fade over time(10 years)

For thermal(4R fixed size) u can choose from Sony S frame+printer, or canon shelphy printers. They use therma transfer, more accurate color(wider contrast of CMYK vs inkjet) water resistant, tear resistant, and color last up to 100 years.

Sony is faster in printing, and costing is rm1 each print. Printer USB to PC, support multicard up to 32gb
Canon is a little slow, support picbridge(direct USB from camera), costing rm1.2 each print, card support up to 16gb max(slot)(over 16gb use camera USB link)

Both are cheaper then inkjet usually costing from rm1.8 to 2.8 depending on ink and paper, and quality far from thermal type.

Canon and Epson are the best printers.

Both have long lasting inks if paired with the right papers.

Based on studies and there are lots of it Canon claims even 25-100 years for some of their papers and inks (Chroma +)

I would not use cheapo CISS for A4's. All original, costs up to RM5 per A4 sheet.

Some inks are actually pigment type especially Epsons and they are water resistant. Anyway I wouldn't expose an 8R to water.

Thanks for the help guys. Think i'd just have to decide between the S-Frame or Selphy.

Are the printers just default for 4R sizez? Any chance it will be able to set to those other sizes? i.e : 3R or Polaroid frames Does the feeder even accepts these paper sizes?

Thanks guys smile.gif

I'm using the canon CP800 selphy and you can only print 4R + another smaller squarish shape format.
You can technically print at 4R and snip it off till it's 3R or smaller.

Pros :
- Extremely compact, it's far smaller than your regular inkjet A4 printer
- You can print it directly from your SD/CF/USB/Most card storage system
- Can function with battery power (optional battery that cost nearly as much as the printer)
- Long lasting pictures
- Adequate image quality
- Adequate printing speed. Bout 1 minute per photo.
- Cheap (For thermal type photo printer)
- Doesn't look like a 6 year old kid's toy like the more expensive Selphy ES-40
- Really simple to use. Even the photo paper and ink comes in a nice package.
- Cost RM1 per 4R photo.

Cons :
- Slightly lower dynamic range compared to professional printers
- It's probably cheaper/same price if you print outside
- You'll have to make sure the photo paper remains dust free or else you'll have defects on your photo when it's printed.

Selphy is a really fun/casual printer to use. Till today I've not regret owning one. It's convenient enough to bring to parties, events, etc etc so you can print on the spot.

Trust your feeling. They are accurate. The printer manufacturers business model is to subsidize the printer cost and earn it back on the ink. You get the printer below cost, and they slaughter you when you buy the ink. smile.gif

i got the Epson TX720 Artisan 720 one at home, awesome output but pricy if compare when print at shop. Good thing its a wireless all in 1 printer + dedicated photo output. Uses 6 different ink cartridge rather than normal 3in1 color and black. smile.gif
