Yesterday i went to top speed auto care sdn bhd in glenmarie to service my car.
i just want to do the regular service, change the engine oil etc.
but the mechanic told me,
my absorber is broken and i need to change the whole set.
my car is just 4 years old.

he told me if i dont change the absorber,
it will be dangerous in raining.

then he asked to change the brake disk,
because he said it is too thin,
if i dont change, finally there will be rubbing and there is fire.
i dont feel any differences after i change the disk.
below is break down.

lubricant 10/40 RM79
925 bulb RM5
alignment RM20
power steering oil RM 70
brake pad ft RM90
halogen bulb RM18
absorber FT R/L RM390
absorber RR RM260
spark plug RM 68
absorber link ft RM160
brake disc rotor RM290
Labour RM 90
bumber clip RM 40 (RM 5 x 8)
camber kit FT R/L RM100 (one pair) - according to top speed, without these camber, they cannot do alignment, this is just an adjustable screw which cost me RM 100

Fender cover Ft RM95
Gear oil RM 56

Total RM2051

Where can i complain them?
I found that most of the price is double of peroduo service centre.
e.g. in peroduo, absorber one pair only cost for RM 169 with labour cost, but top speed is RM 260 without labour.

Attached Image

when i went there, first time,
i used their package to change the engine oil.
package is like this

RM 79 for 10/40W engine oil FREE one oil filter and one can of leather/tyre rim wash.
and plus free RM 5 KFC voucher.

in first time service, i was very happy. i feel it is a very cheap shop.

then second time service, they started to ask me to choose same package,
then i asked them to check tyres, because i felt tyres air leaking quickly,
then they remove tyre and checked, then told me front absorber problem.
i said ok to change front absorber. then after dismantle front absorber,
then they started to told absorber link ft (RM160) also need to changed.
he said it is connected to front absorber. if you dont change, your car will have broken soon. it is linking with front absorber.

AFTER 10 mins, they said "miss, i found that back absorber also broken",
i said no need, then he said it is one set.
if you change front absorber, dont change back, it will be problem also.
you better change one set. "you are luckily to meet us earlier, if not... dangerous"

then they didnt tell me that I need to pay "RM 100" for chamber set for alignment purpose because absorber changed.
he just said we need "RM 20 for alignment". Normally, it was RM 26. now we charged you RM20.
then no choice. because i aslo change absorber, so i just do alignment.

after that, when the car go to alignment area. they started to said
"miss, we cant do alignment without chamber set. we need additional RM 100" i said you mean RM 20 + RM100,
"YES"

it is step by step.....

i asked for discounts before i changed, and they said we can go to counter to discuss later...
then when i go to counter, it is RM 2XXX already.

what absorber brand u are using?..absorber FT R/L RM390?..front only already rm390?..this is extremely overpriced..
*
yes, absorber is kayaba.
Front RM 195 per pcs.
one pair RM 195 x 2 = RM 390

my car was in good performance before i changed,
i dont feel any abnormal,
but the service centre told me if i dont change,
it will be very dangerous.

he said "luckily you met us, if not, you will be in trouble".....

tribunal pengguna?
where is it?
i will check in google and tomorrow i will call them.

RM 2,000 is definitely very high price.
somemore, i dont feel any differences before and after.

there is one proton car, the owner is next to me in the payment counter,
his car is WVX....
it is quite new car.
the service centre asked him to change brake disk too.
he serviced for RM 1xxx.
he kept on complaint "expensive" in the counter.

Why did you just follow what the so called foreconman say? No one can force you to do anything and its not as if you cant just drive away (as you drove in anyway) to get a 2nd opinion some shop else.

Get the quote and tell the foreconman that you need to get money and just do what ever is immediately needed first, then if you want, come back later - if you did find out that you were like an insect almost trapped in the spider's web, then dont come back to be eaten.

Malaysian - so nice to con. I love it.

i just scared if i dont change,
my car will really breakdown in half way.
because long time ago, i had a hyundai car.
battery worn out, i didnt change, so stopped in highway emergency lane.

i am female driver, i really scared for car breakdown,
so i just changed when the technician tell me.

i dont expect it is so expensive.

Hmmm... I can't see any danger if not changing absorber rather than changing tyre/lower/tyre bearing..

Seriously sounds weird for me... unsure.gif
*
One lesson cost for RM 2000.
Sad....

now i only started to learn about what is necessary to change, what is not necessary to change.
next time, i just go to peroduo service centre.

*
peroduo absorber is half price of top speed auto care sdn bhd.
i already asked my neighbor.
he showed me the receipt.

peroduo is RM 169 include labour.

now they changed me RM 260 (rm 130 x 2) excluded labour

why need to change bulb?
did u ask for power steering service?
for brake pad,if ur brake pad need to be changed,if u use it to the max, there will be some sound from the pad even if u do not press ur brake..that is the indication that the pad is really thin....for disc, normal disc for my is just around RM160/pair for Bosch and most brand...have to see at ur previous disc then  only can determine the condition...anyway,really way too pricey unless the disc is performance slotted and drilled rotor....
is ur spark plug in bad condition?miss fire?burn mark?normal spark plug can get less than rm40 la...
absorber link?damn...so pricey...why need to change it?do u keep the old 1?if the link tak kejap then only need to change...
bumper clip?i bought it at spare part...rm1.50/pc only....
ur fender cover koyak edy?fender cover around rm35 or less for normal 1...
gear oil rm56?what gear oil did they used?what is ur mileage?
chamber screw is rm35/pc only including installation...the most expensive is rm45/pc with installation (consider max price edy)...

absorber rm169/pair?is it rear absorber?if front i think will be higher...
*
absorber Rear is RM130/pcs. one pair is RM 260.
Absorber front is RM 195/pcs. one pair is RM 390.

Anyway, i already filed to pengguna tribunal.
now waiting for results.
i will claim to them officially.

since i stay in shah alam, pengguna tribunal is just around here.
if i cant get back the money, it will be a lesson for me.

they did tell them what they're abt to change and she agrees...this one nothing wrong
the wrong part is they charge the same part with overpriced price
and they give the customer misleading information abt the part(asking customer to change part that isn't broken)
customer is stupid/no knowledge in car...doesn't mean u can con them...it doesn't work that way
if u charge a little bit extra...thats fine for me...charge double, thats unethical already
but an advice for TS...u should learn at least something abt car in order to keep being conned...else u just continue service in perodua SC
*
yes. what you said you are correct.
actually i dont mind to pay RM 2000 to service the car if the price is reasonable.
i just want that my car can perform well.
but the reason i complained here is " i paid RM 2000,
but there is nothing difference, and some more, after that, i only knew that all are overprice".

First of all, I pity you TS.

Secondly, Top Speed is famous for ripping off customer.

At one time I just went there for a tyre, they psycho me with everything else. Brake pads, driveshaft etc. I smiled only listening to his explanation. Bloody rip off. Then when I said "No, thank you.", they started to feel grumpy and shit.

That shop should be literally C4-ed by KPDNHEP or whatever..
*
Yes, i saw they sell tyre and engine oil in package price.
very attractive package.

E.g. good year RM 165 x 4, some more Free RM 30 KFC voucher.

after you take this tyres package, next time, you come, then .......

yes. i also asked the technician for the same questions.
i asked "i went to other shop, no need to change any thing then can do alignment",
"normally technician just knocked the rim like that".

he asked me "how to knock?"
" I dont know how to knock without changing chamber nut".

Disc rotor thin? Mileage? How many pair of brake pad hv u been through?
Skim before?
Typical con job, with camber screw RM 50 each. Did they actually use camber screw? Maybe there's none. U better check. If it's used, next time u r asked to pay for camber screw again, u know it's another con man.

Very much overpriced absorbers and spark plugs. Absorber is the main killer.
Others like bumper clips, and little things, they hv to make some money, else they can't survive.

OK...scaring customer is bad. They trying to make quick bucks here. Always ask for 2nd opinion, or tell the fella no budget and will come back again.
*
yes. i stand in front of the technician when he changed chamber kits.
he did changed. but i did tell him that i dont want to change and he insisted that if i dont change, he cant do alignment.

anyway, i learnt something in this time.
we should always compare the price....

I used to went to TopSpeed especially for tyre service (camber, alignment and balancing) when i was still a car noob. After knowing they tried to 'cheat' me using exactly the same tactic like yours, then i motiu them.

It's nice to have a very basic car knowledge especially for the ladies to avoid getting conned. If you are not sure about something, just try to give a call to your Dad, Husband, Boyfriend, Friends who might have some car knowledge before AGREEING to the mechanic quoted price.

For us guys who are car savvy, we normally have our own favourite bengkel and spare part shops. And for my case, i get diagnostic from my mech if i noticed something wrong with the car and get the spare part on my own if i think i can get cheaper outside.

TOPSpeed workers earned money by commission. So by conning unfortunate people like yourself, they can get more money. I heard the commission was quite high. Someone i knew worked there before, he was with the Subang Branch before moved to Glenmarie.
*
it is commision base.
No wonder the technician kept on asking me to change....

Whoa.. potong kepala, dah potong x cukup lagi cincang pulak.

I had some experience with Top Speed Kelana Jaya SS3 branch when I was still a noob but gut feeling saved my wallet.

Went there to get my gearbox checked as it was making weird noises. They also said the clutch pump needed to be changed. Here are the prices quoted:

1. Manual gearbox RM1200 (outside RM350 tops excl labour but in the end changing the oil + additives did the trick)
2. Clutch pump RM350 (I bought from spare part shop and changed myself -- attempted after some research and WIN! -- RM65, 1 hour of research, 1 hour of blood and sweat LOL)

The best part is, when I told them I'm shocked to see the prices and question him about the prices, the mech asked me if I went to school or not. He said "u ada baca x?" WTF. I just stormed out to my car and drove off.
*
yes. your case is exactly same with me.
I asked them "i went to many workshop, they dont change the camber set and they can do alignment without camber set", then the technician said "how? you show me how to change? I cant do without camber kits"
