hey there, again i'm here..
comparing Dell 14R SE i7 or i5 with Lenovo Ideapad Y480, which is better?
thanks
*
Definitely 14R with the GT640M.
Current Y480 equipped with a GT640M LE Fermi version, which is much slower than the GT640M.

Just wondering would u suggest to buy:

1) Alienware Laptop M14x at RM 4,529.36 i7-3720QM + NVIDIA GTX 650M (2GB) + WLED HD (1600X900) + 64GB mSATA MiniCard and 500GB (7200RPM) + Killer wireless 1202 (This price obtained using the coupon code 037QQMTX3LH5CR 12% off price)

2) Asus G55VW-S1095V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + (1920x1080)@3999, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W7HP (Hate the HDD 5400 rpm)

3) Wait for Lenovo y580 (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/pd/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y580/productID.250640500) USD 1199
    Full HD 1080p (1920 × 1080) + i7-3610QM +  8 GB DDR3 1333 MHz + 750 GB SATA 5400 RPM + 32 GB SSD + Blu-ray Disc + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M (2GB)

4) Save money and buy - Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2199[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm); backlit keyboard optional (The HDD and Graphic card for 2199 worth it)

Sorry not using the proper format to ask but hopefully you guys can give me an idea of what to do.

Usage for the laptop?

Will be carrying it daily?

The most powerful here for gaming definitely will be the Asus and Lenovo.

In terms of weight, Asus weight around 3.8kg, while Lenovo around 2.8kg. A significant difference, surely can feel.

The Inspiron 14R with GT640M is actually good enough for gaming on mid/high settings on native(1366x768) resolution.

If you're buying in a hurry, then I'd suggest these:
Dell XPS 14z, i7-2640M + Nvidia GT520M@RM3449[1.98kg], 4GB, 500GB, Belkin Evo Backapck

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420s, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630M@RM3699[1.88kg], W7P, 8GB, 320GB (7200rpm), anti-glare

Toshiba Tecra-R840-2034X, i5-2520M + AMD HD6450M@RM3999[2.15kg], W7P, 4GB, 640GB (7200rpm), 3 years international warranty (1st year on-site), Microsoft Office Home & Business 2010

If not, then its better to wait then the ones above are running on relatively older technology...
New ones are expected to arrive in 1-2 month's time nod.gif
*
Howbout Acer M5-481TG-53316G12, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT640M LE (28nm Kepler) + 128GB SSD@RM2899[1.85kg], 6GB, W7HP ?
Atleast get a good GPU for gaming and also SSD.
Not sure whether the i5-3317U is enough for programming and 3D editting. hmm.gif

hi... i really on dilemma now.. need recommendation n suggestion from u all.. wink.gif

i need a laptop dat can running most engineering sofware... such as proe, autocad, fluent, solidwork....
btw, im planning to buy ultrabook..easy to carry n light.. but wat i heard, de gpu for ultrabook so poor.. like zenbook use intel hd4000...only half of de gt650 performance..

so i wan ask is it sofware run using gpu?? not cpu??

or i better go to gaming laptop?
*
If it use more on CPU, maybe this will do:

SONY VAIO S Series 13P
13.3" 1600 x 900, i7-3520M, 750 GB, 8GB RAM, GT 640M LE(kepler) 2GB DDR3, [1.67kg] W7 Pro RM4,799

SONY VAIO S Series 13
13.3" 1366 x 768, i7-3520M, 750 GB, 4GB RAM, GT 640M LE(kepler) 1GB DDR3, [1.72kg] W7 Pro RM3,999

Maybe other sifu can advice. biggrin.gif

hoho...i dunno much about sony laptop...wat i heard b4,de brand make de price so expensive... if compare to zenbook which one more reliable n good??nice spec though
*
Reason why I suggest the Sony laptop is due to the weight, since you're looking for something light to carry, while still packs quite a nice spec.

But, if you don't mind to have something just a bit heavy than the Sony, but pack a powerful spec, then you should go with the MSI GE60 like what PF T.J. mentioned.

MSI GE60, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + Bluray@RM4199, 8GB, 1TB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, gaming mouse & backpack, Free SteelSeries QCK Mass mousepad
Weighing at 2.4kg. Not so bad for a 15.6" laptop with a Quad-Core processor and a powerful GPU.

This will do (not an ultrabook) if referring to your requirement :

Pavilion G4-2026TX/2027TX, i3-2350M + AMD HD7670M@RM1699, 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP; colors: black/red

Sager NP9150
For 6k, you can select 7970M as the GPU.

Can consider this one:
14"
HP Pavilion G4-2026TX/2027TX, i3-2350M + AMD HD7670M@RM1999, 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP; colors: black/red

Or the newer, but slightly more expensive version:
HP Pavilion G4-2006/2007/2008TX, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM2199, 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7HP

The 1st one would be good enough though if budget is a problem nod.gif

You might want to update the price smile.gif :
