CAD usually would benefit more from higher RAM capacity and more powerful processing power.
Mainstream GPUs serve little purpose for it. You'll need workstation class ones for help. |

QUOTE(modpro @ Apr 28 2012, 08:14 PM) What's your usage? If you prioritize gaming, then this is not the best choice. If work and design then yes, this is pretty decent.QUOTE(aztechx @ Apr 28 2012, 09:06 PM) was also wondering if the asus a43sd would be an overkill if just use for work and watching movies, occasionally HD movies...or is there a cheaper and better option out there?budget is below 2k..shopping for a friend.. Overkill would be an overstatement. No harm having a more powerful one if you can afford it. Though if not, can always consider something less powerful but still be able to play HD videos smoothly. |

QUOTE(modpro @ Apr 28 2012, 10:37 PM) Yes, the A43SM with the GT630M would be much better for gaming. Alternatively like what TJ said: HP Pavilion G4-2026/27tx, i3-2350M + AMD HD7670M@RM1999, 4GB, 640GB(5400rpm), W7HP |

QUOTE(cloud8318 @ Apr 29 2012, 12:28 AM) You'll be pretty happy if you can get this: http://www.techhypermart.com/notebooks/asu...ook-laptop.html If you have to open so many tabs, I recommend maxing the RAM out at 8GB. Battery life depends on each laptop, can say the average 14" one can do about 4 hours just surfing the web. Some of them, like my U41SV can do up to 8 hours surfing due to its high capacity battery and lower power consumption. |

QUOTE(Acid_RuleZz @ Apr 29 2012, 12:54 AM) The issue caused by using TIM instead of fluxless solder for the integrated heat spreader? Nope, wouldn't be a problem for mobile IB since mobile CPU don't have need for an integrated heat spreader. QUOTE(Kyozen @ Apr 30 2012, 01:01 AM) The AMD based C-60 would be the most powerful of the ones you listed except for the E-450 version. The N2800 in the 1025C would be slightly faster in terms of applications but overall if you want to watch movies then the C-60 is more adequate. Also, for office documents, the bigger resolution would be more beneficial. The Acer you listed is already obsolete. QUOTE(Amal @ Apr 30 2012, 06:35 AM) Yup. Looks like it, now that you mention it. Not too sure about the GE60 design. I have yet to see it to confirm.A GE60 to be more precise? since it is packed with GT650M, and the same placement of the windows button on the keyboard. QUOTE(JustForFun @ Apr 30 2012, 10:01 AM) They are being refreshed with new designs and models as we speak. |

The new N-series may still reuse the GT635M instead of the new Kepler chips.

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 1 2012, 11:41 AM) If that is true then its rather bad news But then the good thing about Asus is that their laptop spec refreshes are always the fastest haha Added on May 1, 2012, 11:42 am Ivy Bridge processors doesn't bring about very significant performance boost, especially for those looking for gaming laptops.. However its a different story if one is looking for a normal subnotebook or ultrabook without a dedicated GPU If this article is to be believed: http://www.digitaltrends.com/laptop-reviews/asus-n46-review/ At least they were sane enough not to use a GT640M LE. QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 1 2012, 11:45 AM) I don't think its a reliable source... I don't think Asus's N series will ever run on an i3 processor Oh, they do have the customizable specs for the N-series over in the West. Different SKUs to cater for different price ranges. And FullHD on a 14" screen seemed abit awkward as well Anyway, the review on the Lenovo Y480 did show that the GT640M LE is around the AMD HD6790M right? Still better than GT635M? Not really sure, what do you think? **But then I do like the new design haha Oh, tell that to Sony then. FHD on a 13.3" screen. Anyway, rejoice. My further investigation shows that the N6-series is coming with a GT650M. http://www.excaliberpc.com/615927/asus-n76...3-notebook.html http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-n56vzds71-preorder-p-4321.html If I'm not mistaken, the performance of the GT640M LE should be similar to the 96SP with GDDR5 GT555M variant. |

QUOTE(mrkenn @ May 2 2012, 07:30 PM) Is it really worth to get a laptop with full hd screen? It's sharper i know, higher PPI. Just a better screen. But on a 14 inches laptop, 1366x768 should be good enough. And on 15.6, 1600x900 would be good enough. Maybe Full HD on 15.6 would look great. Well, depending on individual taste. Personally for me, anything below 17" can do without FHD. 15.6" looks fine with HD+ and regular HD is alright on anything 14" and smaller but again, personal preference.Oh have another question. Why MSI laptops not so popular in malaysia hor? MSI has just recently started to promote their mobile offerings aggressively, that's why. QUOTE(nanamizuki @ May 2 2012, 08:05 PM) any ETA for n56 to be release in MS? Probably by the end of the month. |

Still, so long as he's not selling above retail price is acceptable.
