Having SSPN allows you up to 3K of tax rebate. Is there any way a single (and without kids) like me can invest in it? In a way, a tax rebate for myself too.

Based on their requirements to open a SSPN A/C?
No, you can't open an account. You need at least 1 child must be yours by law, by guardianship, adoption, birth.
Slight correction, like Ronnie stated, it's tax RELIEF not rebate. BIG difference if U know how to use a calculator tongue.gif

Requirements to open a SSPN account with PTPTN
http://www.ptptn.gov.my/web/english/savings/opening
An SSPN account can be opened at the PTPTN service counter at One-Stop Centre, KL Sentral and all branches of PTPTN agents throughout the country. Documents required for this purpose are:

i. Copy of MyKad / military card / police card of the applicant;
ii. Copy of child's birth certificate / MyKid / MyKad; and
iii. Testimonial / Certificate of Adoption (for parents intending to open an account for the adopted child under their legal custody)

The minimum deposit amount for the purpose of opening an account and additional savings is RM20.00 for each nominated beneficiary account. Additional savings can be made as soon as the SSPN card is received or any other form of verification of membership in the National Education Savings Scheme.

Based on personal experience, seriously, this SSPN needs major shake up. Highly unprofessional. Hardly any update on the status of investment amount. Where is the statement of total investment vs current value? Only gave you a card.

Recently after 4 months returned the cheque that I invested end of last yr. Seems like personal cheque unacceptable, only cash. Terms and conditional of withdrawal is unclear and subject to change any time. Call the office also they can't answer on the spot. Emails sent unreplied or bounced back like kena blocked.

Recent news heard some parties want to scrap PTPTN. Wonder will affect SSPN.

If not because of tax relief, will not invest a single cent to such fund. Seriously consider stopping all investment in the near future.

Sorry, I understand that it's a tax relief. So really it is limited to only PTPTN funds and with kids. Sigh, I thought I saw post in LYN talking about investing in such similar scheme or something but I can't find those posts anymore.

As I understand it's more of a savings fund for parents with returns that may not beat foreign-based education inflationary costs. It's future investment proceeds are meant for support of local courses, more likely.

Yup - 1 parent 1 kid = 1 unique a/c, thus each parent, although for same child, = different a/c
Thus each parent separate tax relief (assuming as U mentioned, pay taxes separately lar).

If your tax bracket is 19%, and you take up both SSPN (6000) and PRS (3000), can save

9000 x 19% = RM1710 smile.gif

i also dont trust the government.. but due to the tax relief that i can get, its definitely a good choice! 19% tax savings = 19% ROI biggrin.gif Dont bother about the yearly dividend, take that as bonus.

anyway when your kid go college you can make withdrawal ma.

It's meant for children, not family member.
So it's a NO, you can't open an account for your younger brother.

However, your parents can open account for him.

this acc was under my name, can i withdrawal the money for my kids education in future? OR the acc. must be open under my kids name OR penerina manfaat must be under my kids name?
*
you got SSPN account, u mean you open the account right? so do you have children liao?

the beneficiary must be your children in order to do tax relief.

from my understanding, can withdraw for your kid education, need show offer letter from college/uni. then can do full withdrawal.

Its a tax relief, not a straight 19% rebate/discount, hence calculation is not accurate I assume?

By any chance, anyone manage to withdraw full sum BEFORE your kid went to college/university? Can I withdraw full sum if I intend to switch to private/international school say when kid is in Secondary school?

Calculation is accurate..

assuming you are having chargeable income of 60k = 19%.

60k - 9k (SSPN + PRS) = 51k

you now only have 51k chargeable income, although still on 19%, but your 9k no need get tax anymore. so effectively, 9k x 19% = RM1710 icon_rolleyes.gif

'A 100% withdrawal is possible but will require the beneficiary’s offer letter to local university or colleges, a vague statement on the beneficiary ‘no longer wishing to participate in the educational process’, or in the event of the beneficiaruy’s / depositor’s death or incapacitation.'

so yes, if your child gets the offer letter from uni or college, can make full withdrawal.

guess it is NOT correct,

let say investor "A" deposited in sspn in January 2014 and investor "B" deposited in June 2014 and investor "C" deposited in Dec 2014....is there any different in returns for (dividends) in 2015.

hmm.gif if the ROI is the same, then investor "A" is advise able to put the money in FD for 11 mths in January 2014 before moving to SSPN in Dec 2014. Is this correct/better?

I dont think got difference. My colleague always waits till Nov before he deposits into the account. So yes, keep in FD for 11 months, then move over to this account.

Hi
Just to check with you guys before I proceed to the bank to open SSPN account for my kids, I would like to get ready all the necessary forms and documents.
Is this the correct form to fill? ( I am looking to open an ordinary SSPN account not the insurance type account)
http://www.ptptn.gov.my/docs/Borang%20PTPT...N%20TERKINI.pdf
What are the others documents required beside the kid's birth cert/ Mykid?

wanna ask, i've SSPN account last time when applying PTPTN but the account left there inactive for like 4 years now. I'm able to login just now and the account is still valid. However, the beneficiary name is my name though. Means that the money i deposit is just for my future study use?

I need clarification on the tax incentive.
Both my wife and I are working, and both of us have income that qualifies for tax.
I just opened an SSPN account for my newborn daughter, with me as the depositor.
If I deposit money in the SSPN account, am I the only one who can get the tax incentive?
If my wife wants to get tax incentive, she needs to register as a depositor too?

hi all,

Is this doable?

1. On Nov/Dec 2017, I go deposit 6k SSPN for my child. (so that can get 6k tax relief in taxable year 2017).
2. On Jan 2018, I go close that SSPN account and take out all the 6k, and go invest something else.

Question:
1. Can I close the account and withdraw all the $$ in such short time frame?
2. If can do, will my 6k tax relief still valid?

That's not true as I have deposits since 2015 that get exactly 4% per annum. Even though deposited mid December it only gets the full 4% in the following January (hence no interest for those 2 week's end December). No way it's getting daily interest.

I remember saw it in the net some years back,…I think it is something like this…..

If the dividend announced for year 2017 is 4%

1) Your last year’s deposit date, prorated by the number of months multiply by this 4%
2) Multiply balance in your a/c as at 1 January 2017 by 4%

Add 1 & 2, you will get the dividend sum for that year.

Caveat emptor…. sad.gif
