so i would need to change the speakers as well?
*
is there a problem with that? the existing speakers can be put into the rear and can use fader options to keep them low so they will not interrupt the new ones

you can go with a reputable brand alpine/pioneer HU, and a reputable brand component set

if you want to have subwoofer and amp along, i am afraid you may want to save up a little bit more

actually there's some good reputation brand are coming out with entry level stuff, wen9x88 might want to audit it see whether it can satisfy his ear or not.
*
those entry level also need a certain budget ma, and its a bit hard to achieve with rm500 (installation, cables etc?)

if he DIY then that's a different story laugh.gif

Not sure if I'm posting this right, I'm not into any genre of music or any specific setups for audio.
I just want to check if anyone have tried to mount an Android Tablet or maybe iPad into their car?

Let's say I have not decide the tabs to use, but is a default audio player necessary?
Is there anyway I can convert the wiring directly attach to the tabs' 3.5mm jack to play the music instead of via a2dp bluetooth?

Sorry, I'm very new to this and never had any interest in ICE as well. But for some reason I would like to have a tablet in the car, and so I came up with this idea to just use it as the HU for the stereo.
*
can just get a basic HU that supports AUX in assuming your current car's HU doesn't have one already

So that means it still requires a HU to work behind the tab for music output to the speaker right?
*
yes correct

Morning All,

My ride: Proton FLX
Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL:  SQL
File format/medium used for my source: USB/MP3/CD/
Music genre: All
Budget: 3k below
Setup type preferences: 12" Subwoofer(Set), AMP, 6x9, Pre AMP,

I am wondering how much will be cost for above request ? and the brand
i prefer Alpine, or any suggestion?

Appreciate someone can help...

Thanks
*
get component set, a 4channel amp, and a subwoofer.

3k +/- should be able to do it no problem. if you want to soundproof your door then may not be enough.

hehe, bro thanks your advice... i think this sure be a nice brand  thumbup.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on June 23, 2012, 12:15 pmAfternoon all,
I am wondering the sound proofing is for what ? if without install have what affect ? any advise ? appreciate someone can explain to me.
*
ill take door sound proofing:

when your speaker resonates/vibrates (the mid bass, when theres bass kicking in), it will travel through the door. more often than not that will cause unwanted vibration/noise and it will pollute your sound reproduction.

sound proofing helps reduce or even completely eliminate that.

another example is engine firewall/hood or bonnet sound proofing:

engine noise? minimal or gone.

Even my C5 also have such problem after few years of usage, so that is normal.

But those sound are always treatable by doing proper sound insulation.

btw, with you planning for SQL... I don't think you can hear any yi yi oh oh sound.  laugh.gif
*
i can hear, how? sad.gif

btw, seriously thinking of refurbishing the interiors. outside my car *looks* new aside from the "recycled"/reused parts, but the inside... laugh.gif

seriously lovin my engine hood/bonnet sound proofing though, serious NVH reduction despite the high RPM roars haha biggrin.gif

Need some recommendations here. Sellers are also welcome to quote me your price.

- My ride: Kia Spectra 5
- Prefers SQ/SPL/SQL: SQ
- File format/medium used for my source: MP3/WMA and radio
- Music genre: Mix
- Budget: Below RM2000
- Setup type preferences: HU + front components first. Rear can remain with the existing one.
- Other requirements (if any): Prefer that the front component can fit into my existing speaker/tweeter mounts, so that no need extra mods.

Thanks
*
rm2k can get you a pretty good HU and component set.

for HU, take a pick on either pioneer/alpine (audition if possible, if not then just pick based on design/functions etc)

component set you may search through this thread, or the v1 recommendation thread, or even the brand thread for what brand/model you should be looking for

My cousin just got a German Maestro set for about rm1.3k. Not sure which model. He'll tell me tomorrow. Can you guys recommend an amp? Not too expensive. Just good enough to pair with that.
*
decent car amps cost between rm1k to 2k for an entry level 4channel(again, reputable brands, not chicken brands) assuming you would want it to drive your subwoofer too

I have a question.

How long does a HU last before it starts to sound off/funny? I've been struggling with my setup for a few months now and I cannot get the sound I've been looking for. Tested with new components, new amps and short of changing the wiring and RCAs (I'm not keen on trying). It just doesn't sound the same anymore and I keep feeling something is missing and doesn't feel 'whole'. I've tried tuning a dozen different ways with EQ, Xover, etc.

I'm starting to suspect my Alpine 9855 is dying on me.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions or a spare HU to loan me to test?
*
no idea bro, however a good way is to start isolating components and keep it simple in troubleshooting.
easier to pinpoint faults (which atm assuming it is your HU)

better if you can get another 9855 and if the sound is different/off for your 9855, you know what to fix/replace smile.gif

try not to look at peak wattage, which chicken brand amps love to boast

Recommend a decent 4 channel amp under Rm2k?
*
im using boston acoustic GT40 4channel, bought it for around rm1.5k back then IINM

they are no longer in production and are replaced by newer models:
http://www.bostonacoustics.com/Amplifiers-C252.aspx (take a pick lol)

then there are also other brands like helix, JL audio, german maestro, rockford (they do pack a punch in the SPL world heh!), dominations and so on so forth (can visit the brand thread too for more info/idea or even recommendations: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/832695 )

Thanks for the info bro. Is it recommended to upgrade both the HU and the component set at the same time? Or shall I upgrade 1 of them first and see how's the result before upgrading the other one?
*
better both for "best effect", or if you really wanna learn what item (HU, or component set speakers) does what (what changes/difference) then you can opt to do 1 at a time.

even in "group"/combination upgrades, unless you got the money to buy the whole set, it is recommended to go in 2 pairings:
HU + component speakers

then

amp (4 channel if you're not looking for further upgrades to drive BOTH comp speakers and woofer) + subwoofer

Thanks for the quick response  thumbup.gif

I read your previous posts, seems that you also upgraded the HU + component as the 1st step. Do you feel a huge different after you added teh amp?
*
i wouldnt say huge difference having the amp to drive the component, rather a huge difference because i have a subwoofer to drive the low frequencies, and the midbass (component set) being driven properly altogether.

music works in harmony, one cant be without the other wink.gif

Sounds good.

May I know what are the features to look for in a HU that can drive a component set? Do I need to look for certain number of pre-outs? And its voltage?
*
for entry/mid levels, you can probably just look into functionality (BT? usb?)

mid/high ends you can look into tuning options etc.

never really bothered about the preouts/voltage as pioneer/alpine have their pre outs/voltage ratings etc being "standard"
