between recon n sektor, which is more ok??

Recon is better than sektor! Lighter, don't get the Coil spring
Personally, my advice is better get a new fork. Don't spend for a used fork. Save a little extra for a better one and u won't regret it. Both recon n sektor are a heavy fork, I believe even epicon is lighter than both mentioned.

Looks like ill continue borrowing from friends dulu till i can amass such an amount to spend in a go. Costly it sure is. Longer wait I must endure.

better get your own bike rather than always borrow your friends one. it's like borrowing your car to a friend and don't know what might happened to it.

My favourite are:
1. Pedalspot in SS2 and Sri Petaling - http://www.pedalspot.com.my
2. TBFooksang in Sungai Wei - http://www.tbfooksang.com
3. GHSpeedbikes in Kota Damansara - http://www.ghspeedbikes.com

USJ Cycles - cut throat and sucks big time. I got bad experience with them.
I don't think your friend will borrow his bike to you hahaha... as far as I am concern, bike fitting is different from people to people.

somehow, ur bike is just like ur baby, got Feel wan, wont simply let others to use it....

That's what I planned to do. Currently using his old bike that he retired so he's fine with it. Only needed to spend some cash on the maintenance, tyres and breaks. Lucky me  biggrin.gif

u r lucky man. if your friend dont mind is ok la...but somehow have your own bike is way worth to vanture MTB. maybe u can get a used bike if you dont mind, i believe with a budget of 2k+ u might get a decent entry bike, and follow on with upgrades or change a different category bike later if u wish to vanture in deep.

The guys are right. I bought a used bike at 1.5k. Ended up changing everything bits by bits.

If you insist, here's a link you can take a look at:
http://www.bicyclebuysell.com/#page=1&cond...t=81&discipline[]=1

Good thing about buying used is that the depreciation is lower compared to buying new. If you bargain hard, you might even score a good deal.

If the budget's below 2k used, here's something you can take note of:

1. Groupset, minimum is Deore
2. Some generic hydrolic brakes
3. Some big brands for the frame, although it's gonna be entry level models

For the rest of the bikes, generally you'll get crap stuffs or OEMs.
*
agreed with you. i started with an used bike budgeted 2k+ too, glad was my first bike, and i end up keep the used bike (with minor upgrade), and in the end got another new AM bike, so u wont spend extra waste money on unnecessary upgrades from an entry level bike and use the money for your next DREAM BIKE. thumbup.gif

Depends on how you go about it. Most of the shop will advice you to go for new bike instead of upgrading bits by bits. I would like to share my experience with you all here.

I started with Proton T-bolt in 2008 where I got it for RM950. Full sus, carbon frame with Deore and LX group set. Tektro mechanical disc brake etc..

4 years later (2011) I decided to upgrade to hardtail frame. I went to KSH SS2 (Now Pedalspot) ask them for some good frame that is rugged and can support my weight (105kg). I don't really care if it's off season frame of new frame. Finally this Wong introduced my 2010 Merida Matts TFS 500 XC 6061 frame for RM1.3K. Immediately I knew I am attracted to that frame. I pay RM1.3K for the frame upgrade with SRAM X7 FD (T-bolt FD unable to fit into hard tail) and Jagwire Shifters cable.

Everything from T-bolt got transfered into the new frame include the seatpost as well. Later I started to ride with new frame. The feeling is totally different from riding full sus. I did a lot of upgrade in 2011 when I ride a lot (Almost every weekend!). 10 months later, I upgraded my fork to Rockshox SID 2011. I had to fork out RM1580 for the upgrade. Nevertheless, the ride is different.

I met my friend who bring me into Kiara for the first time. There onwards, I started to ride in Kiara, no other place else. Then, things changed, I know I need a bike that can handle trail in kiara while still maintain it for XC when needed. I decided to upgrade my cockpit to fit well with my body. I changed my stem to 90mm Thomsom with 620mm TITEC Carbon fibre flat bar. I forked out around RM600 bucks for that upgrade. Another week, I changed the grip to Ergon GX1 which cost me 35SGD.

The more I ride the more I enjoy it. I tried to upgrade my skill as well. Then I realize there's limitation in my cable disc brake. 5 months later, I upgraded my brake to Avid XO Silver 2011 brake. I realized that I get more daring when I knew I am in control with better brake. I try to go faster and corner more.

There's once, I had overlook the importance of wheelset and tire. I endo when I was riding 2K and crashed my biken twice on different occasion. Did some post mortem on the incident and realized that my tire had expired since the day I bought my T-bolt and there's some dent on my rim as well. I decided to upgrade my wheelset and tire. Hence I spent 680SGD on ZTR Arch EX + Hope Pro 2 Evo and 100SGD on Kenda Nevegal 2.35 + Kenda Nexcavator 2.1 setup.

Till today, when I look back the amount I spend on my bike. People would say you're crazy. Not to mention, I spend on Avid Pro Bleed kit, MINOURA wheel truing kit, bike repair tools, brake fluid, grease, fork oil etc. Do the math, for all the upgrade I did definitely cost more than RM6K easily.

My friend keep on asking me, how often do you use it? I would just smile and tell them, I will fully utilize the stuff I buy. Don't misunderstood that I am trying to show off what I had upgraded. Different people have different opinion. Most of my friend will just advice me go and get a new bike instead of paying so much for all the upgrade.
As you can see here, till today I still running my old T-bolt seat post, group set. After all these years, I still didn't' change my chain. I got a bike computer on my bike and it show's that my new frame already clock more than 700 hours of ride. Not to mention the group set is definitely more than that.

IMHO, biking is not just about upgrading the bike, but also upgrading your biking skill and the most important - enjoying it!

That's all forks! Just my 2 cent sharing!  smile.gif

wow...thanks for sharing your experience. mine was totally different than your i guess. i was into mtb for just less than a year. i start up with a used bike. got a used giant atx for rm2.4k, with slx gear set, with mixture of basic shimano part and deore, and also an epicon fork. to me its good enough for me to start with mtb. maybe i knew in future, i will made upgrades on certain parts only or either not to continue mtb.

slowly, i start up alone on road, than frim, until pcp, i met up with my current Kaki, from there on, poison keep on coming and so on slowly gain skill and experience, end up getting an AM bike. spent rm10k+ for a complete bike, with no upgrades needed anymore (most of the part were medium - high end) and it remains original till now.

once an experience rider told me, don't waste money on upgrading parts by parts, save the money till end and get a mid high end complete bike with a good frame and you will not regret getting it, if you have budget la... maybe i'm not the kind of technical person, to me most mid range parts were far good enough for me to do most of the trails, and i'm not a mtb racer, which i will not chase for speed and faces.

Mtb is a good sport to keep ourself fit and healthy, doesnt really matter on what is your ride, most important we enjoy the moment we ride, the moment we gather & joy.

Just my 2 cent sharing also... notworthy.gif

Yep different people different opinion. I have plan to allocate a budget for Rm15K AM bike when I finished upgraded my current bike. The next upgrade should be the entire groupset and clipless pedal then it will be end of story for current bike. smile.gif
Why not? That time I don't know if I will go far with MTB, so descent frame within my budget. Another thing that I consider was everything from T-bolt can be dumped inside the new frame without any major upgrade except for FD.  smile.gif

i terbalik with u, i get an AM bike first than now only slowly upgrade my HT, haha.... rclxms.gif

got it from a shop in bdr makohtar cheras (if not mistaken) named bike corner, got it before the price increase, maybe u can try your luck again with the price i mentioned. Reba is a value for money, if still not able to meet ur budget, i advise save little extra $$ to get it, dont because of the little extra and u regret getting it. Sektor for a xc bike consider quite heavy.

hi all..i need help..before that, i already did research on google but seems i cant find the answer..
recently, my friend offer me his mtb xds 21 speed with only RM450. Then i was thinking to upgrade the speed from 7 to 9 speed. My question is, is that possible? my friends mtb model is xds zero61 7x3 speed. Thanks in advance fellow sifus!
*
if this is your first bike, i advise you not to do so, u can buy for rm450 if u r comfortable with the price, but upgrade, wait n see. save the $$ for your future 10 spd complete bike and use ur current bike first to train your skills and stamina. not worth to upgrade a XDS bike.

Meta owner pls share share. It come with Maxxis Ardent 2.4/2.25

What i know is Ardent 2.4 is slightly bigger then Minion 2.5 in terms of size!  notworthy.gif
*
I'm a meta owner, but mine not with ardent, I guess ur meta sx 2012. Mine is am1, few of my buddy rides with ardent and they consider so far the best tire for them and for an am bike. but theirs mostly with 2,25, u can go along with it until Botak, it's a good tire to ride with.
From my understanding , ardent more to multi purpose , but minion have more grip, like high roller.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi, MTB newbie here, looking for a new entry-level bike.
I want to ask, how important is frame size? I've decided to buy a 29er, and after looking through the net, it seems that size L is the best fit for me (my height is 183 cm).

But most shops here don't carry L size, only S and M. I went to a shop in tmn melawati and the seller said that M should be enough for me, but I have a feeling that he just doesn't want to order L size just for me... So, should I just take his words and buy M, or should I force him to order L size?

FYI, this is the bike I'm planning to buy now http://www.apollobikes.com/bikes13/29er/xpert29t for RM 1469. I don't have a big budget. Do you guys have any other recommendation? (budget less than RM 2000)
*
i believe you test the bike yourseld to justify does it suits you or not. correct me if i'm wrong, for other bikes, your height able to fit M size too. go back to the shop, test ride the ride, you will know. as long its comfort to ride, that is yours.

Cheers~ thumbup.gif
