[quote=chamelion,Dec 10 2012, 05:10 PM]Minimum is wide of ur shoulder.
XC (shortest)-AM-Freeride (Longest)

u mean use the minimum wide of our shoulder, then the lenght of the handle bar will depands how long we prefer?
i see 660mm, 700mm, how to justify? or more to personal preferences? i measurement my shoulder, only 500mm++, haha...

XC racers use 680mm and below.
AM riders usually around 700mm - 750mm.
DH people will ride more than 750mm.

So, choose your pick.

Summarized suggestion, I like it ! This could be my guide line while shopping.

Okay..I'll ask myself which one I really like.
I'll plan to do 50/50. Half road half mountain. Basically I'll ride the bike to a specific place like Bkt Gasing or Kiara Park from my house and once I reach there I'll enjoy the journey in the mountain.

I might not be able to ride all the way in the jungle, so I do understand at some point I'll need to carry my bike to cross certain obstacle.
I do think 1.6k additional is awesome. Based on given shocks for meta am. Just wanting to know the pros and cons of each bike for your personal experiences and knowledge. Simple as that.

Added on December 13, 2012, 1:08 amBeside jungle, I'm planning to ride at some open construction site that I've scouted. Nice slope and awesome trail. I might not be able to enter and ride on those place I scouted but I'll surely find places like that to ride.

i personally owned a meta am, if you did not go into a very technical details, i believe both bike are the same and enjoyable to ride on. i'm the kind of person who u give me any bike and i will able to ride it and enjoy it. both are good bikes, they have different ability, but for a user like us, we just buy the price > brand > specs that we prefer. not everyone able to afford MTB above rm6k+, even most of the rider here i believe own one, most of them not really able to describe their bikes technical advances or differences. bikes are like car, we own it for years or maybe months, cant afford to try out all the brand out there to personally compare.
my advise, those magazine & review will able to let you understand the bike ability only, or i can say, marketing the bike model, but till the end, its your choice. some will say, "i just like the bike color & design, i dont care about the specs, i'm happy while im riding it"
hope you able to decide your choice, i personally love the latest meta AM colors, but too bad i bought mine since early the year. but still, its a fun bike to ride with.

try fasten it with cable tie and place some antislip padding in between gap, might help..not sure
thanks. i'll have a look at the 2 short listed bike few more time before i purchase it. thanks for sharing your thoughts
A very good explanation you have. I would actually want to enjoy more on trail & DH. I don’t really like to actually “carry/transport” my bike around with car. Hence I decided to ride it on the road to a specific place I want to reach. To me since it is a bike that act somehow of a transportation doesn’t really make sense for me to transport my bike with my car. I do still need to buy a carrier if my partner would want to join me for cycling.

My main purpose is to enjoy trail & DH. Not on mainly on road as I don’t really care about enjoying on road.

I’ll try to hike around Kiara Park, but I have no idea if I can even actually enter the bike trail or not? wouldn’t it be dangerous for people to simply hike in and you guys are cycling? I mean I have no idea how does the place look like but to me when you have human walking and bike doing downhill & etc etc..pretty dangerous.

As for bkt. gasing, not all place you can actually ride. Basically bkt. Gasing is for people to do hiking but I would love to cycle that at certain hour which there are not much people venturing in the jungle. At certain point you will need to carry the bike up.

So far I’ve compared, Meta AM got lots of good review on specification wise and 214 got lots good review on value for money based on given upgraded spec and frame geometry for 2013 model. All I can find via online.

if you really into mtb, i believe a bike carrier or transport your bike around with your car is a MUST. if you live in pj, i dont think u will ride to kiara or even to frim just to avoid transporting your bike with your car. most of us will drive our bike to else where for ride. believe me, a bike rack its a must or else u have a tight budget.

QUOTE(Broadica @ Dec 19 2012, 11:04 AM)
you ask the wrong question. its not weather a 160mm bike can climb or not. its the design, are they build for climbing. some AM bike with good geo can climb very well. mine does. but no matter how good the bike design and how well it can climb.. AM bike are AM bike, they are heavier with slacker front... that is the penalty; and that is what make it tiring to climb. the bigger the travel the bike has the heavier it is.

alu AM bike are around 14kg +- depending on setup. and they cost whole lot more with a 160mm fork up front (fox36 is way more expensive than fox32). 150mm fork are cheaper too... so blurlt can be lighter and cheaper to build. consider that point too.

so can it do kiara, pcp and hash...? hell yea... but its heavy.. especially hash... hash have a lot of climbs, you would appreciates lighter bikes. like it or not... light bike is easier on long ascent. so depend on which activities you do more... choose ur weapon wisely.

There are few options that I know:
