im interested in MTB,

today went to a shop, saw few bikes but maybe chapalang one price around RM700-1800. same brand name on frame, but different on gear, brakes and others.

just want to know, how much should i start with a starter bike for MTB ride.
anyone can recommend any shop? i prefer to start at 1k or below, will uprgrade one by one (as the sales guy told me, better get complete bike price more than adding item one by one could be pricy).

My house near Ulu Yam, gonna try the trail soon. Glad to join you guys, btw im fat with 100kg of weight, looking this as sport for my health and the thrill of MTB train. hehehe.
Thanks in advanced guys.

Try looking at polygon, giant or kona. These will last you quite a while if you're looking at a value oriented entry level bike. Try Samy bike shop at batu caves.

Hi I am new here, anyone enter the kiara trail through the trailhead outside Kiaramas Ayuria?
Would love to join you guys as a beginner smile.gif
*
if you enter at KA, you are starting with the climb called reverse boner. this climb is very challenging so if you're just starting out, plan c or a is probably a better way in. behind the hartamas school or slightly further down into the horse ranch.

just ask few noob questions...

a) does the brakes (lever/caliper) and the disc need to be of the same set? (or can mix/match)

b) is it true that shimano disc can only fit on shimano hub?
else need to do modification?

doing some research for future upgrade. =D
*
no problem..am using shimano brakes with avid rotors..no problems...just a matter of preference.i love avid rotors.just make sure the rotor sizes matches the adaptor to get the right and optimum bite.

QUOTE(ESLord @ Aug 1 2012, 02:37 PM)
ok... now things are making more sense.

If  shimano offers 6 bolt disc then matching it with other hub would be fine then.

fitting large tyre on the front would make more control during high speed corner. But say for low speed climb wouldn't the traction offer at rear wheel is much more needed?
*
larger tires upfront for more grip and traction. usually a more aggresive ride's config. if you ask me about climbs, i'd say the technique is more important. aggresive tires helps during muddy climbs but proper weight balancing and pedalling technique with XC tires will get you up there as well. advantage are aggresive xc tires but i find the sidewalls to be thin.

Guys,
Anyone using ZTR Flow Rim? I am considering between Arch and Flow as I ride trail in the weekend and on road in the weekdays.

The problem is I found that ZTR Flow rim ID is extremely wide 22.3MM if not mistaken compared to Arch ID 19mm.

I am currently runs Maxxis Detonator and Larsen TT for road and some XC.

Plan to get Nevegal or Crossride for Kiara.

My question is if I got new wheelset (Hope EVO Pro 2 with ZTR Flow). I don't think Maxxis Detonator can fit into the  Flow rim.

Any advice? BTW what other hub recommended beside Hope EVO Pro 2.

The damage cost for Hope EVO Pro 2 and ZTR Flow is around RM1.78K? Is that expensive or reasonable?

Thanks
*
arch is 19mm and the new "arch EX is 21mm ". arch ex is for aggresive XC and i would leave flow to do the AM/DH job. there is also a significant difference in weight between the two. arch ex in my opinion is sufficient for trail and AM rides in kiara.

i am running 2.35 hi roller upfront and 2.1 nevegal rear on 19mm ID arch rims in kiara. XC or trail no problem..

Thanks. Another thing if I were to use Maxxis Detonator 1.5, did you experience fit those training tire to wide rim? Or tire are the same even from 1.5 to 2.5 can fit into Flow rim? Sorry I am totally inexperience in this.
Snapshot, thanks for sharing thou. Anyway I am using Merida hardtail. I am not sure if the rear can accomodate 2.35 LOL. Going to crank like crazy if I ever fit 2.35 to my rear rim.
*
19mm usually no problem with 1.5. I am using 1.25 on alex rims dp17.the limitation with wider rims is that you can't fit smaller profile tires.vice versa. Go for arch ex ...just in case you gonna upgrade you can reuse them for AM as well.2.1 on arch ex gonna give you quite a big volume.no need for 2.35

well if you got cash to burn sure, get 2 sets but if you dont and have to shop around, just get the best set you can afford pump up the pressure when you ride on road. because with our gear inches and inefficient aero position, you aint never go anywhere really fast, with or not slicks!
*
Lyn's trend.....Got cash buy bike d...why waste time on another wheelset. smile.gif .

Manage to get my Hope Pro 2 EVO with ZTR Arch EX

However, something weird happened today. The tube exploded after I left there for 1 hour. I didn't even install my cassette and disc rotor on the new wheelset yet.  doh.gif

Anyone encounter this before? If over pressure it definitely explode when I was pumping it. Just curious

FYI I putting Maxxis Detonator 1.5x26 on the ZTR Arch EX.

Damn wasted new tube  shakehead.gif

Fulamak...the only time that happened to me was coz i didnt seat the tyres properly. Ur tube meant for 1.5? The rim usually has a sticker recommending the tire pressure for diff widths. Arch ex can take 1.5?

Guys,
After 2 ride from Kiara, notice that my rear break sound horrible. when I start to break, i notice the feels like abs. feel like gripping on something wobbling behind.

i checked my rear break and it is aligned. i tried to aligned again. the same problem exist..anyidea?
*
i'd first check if all the rotor bolts are there and if there is uneven wear or worn out brake pads. worn out brake pads will cause juddering.

i have bled Avid and Formula brakes before and had no problems doing it.it's fairly straight foward.just follow the steps and do be careful with the dot fluid.

want to ask...is kiara trail(aggresive downhill not include)can maximize 160 travel function?i ride 140mm travel but i seen many 160mm....is a trend ka,kiasu ka,want bling bling ka....or really really nid 160mm fork for certain DROP?
*
You jeles ka? Joking joking....160 for fun factor la...and yes it does make a difference going down. Equipment helps alot unless you are one of the very skillful riders that blasts down on a hardtail with 100mm faster than a downhiller

Having said so,140mm in Kiara perfect in my opinion for an all rounded fun rig.

In trail dun rub rub tire and handlebar wei...dangerous...anything unfortunate happens and you will be liable. I'd appreciate fast approaching riders shouting "rider coming through ". Reverse dh trail along tokong is nice but i only do it very early in the morning wink.gif ...i also help clear fallen branches...

thanks dear forumers
i guess its best i send to shop
just that i want to know if anyone experience it before
so i can roughly know where does it come from and not get marketed to change
any thing on my bike from shop owners . smile.gif

Broadica : maybe i have a typo on my previous post
i was trying to say i used to cycle 10 years ago ..
means now my information and skills in riding is rusted
                i just started riding again.this week is my 3rd week.cheers !

does it happen only when you are seated and goes away when you are standing on your pedals? if it does, perhaps you can check if the seatpost clamp is properly tightened. you may spray a light thin layer of lubricant on the bolts to see if it goes away.
