Whippet is the carbon version of their aluminium Scandal. Max fork 120mm, still pretty slack HTA for a pure XC race bike I think? The geo listed on their page says 70 degrees HTA, but that's with a 80mm fork. So approximately 69 degree HTA with 100mm?

But it's light oh... 1.3kg nia. Ridden once in FRIM. The typical characteristic of a carbon frame. It kinda take the edge off from bumps... More muted feel.

Oh, and the frame's TT is also longer than usual. Must run a shorter stem to compensate.

That is the whole concept of the 456 EVO which is more of a descending hardtail all mountain bike which suits my riding style as i do not want to compromised the thrill of downhill versus climbing ability. I use to have a custom made Ti hardtail of the same nature but the Geometry was BAD. The On One HA is about 67 degrees (sagged) with 72 deg SA with the rider fairly neutral and longish chainstay for a longer wheelbase. It also has a 20mm BB drop which makes the bike COG low for screaming off corners.

dvng, mind I ask how tall are you and what size you choose? The geo you given is with a 140 or 160 fork?

my Anthem now doing double duty, commute and frim, OK more commute and road training@desa park than frim. She is still running on stock 2010 michelin wildracers, they roll OK but my LBS, Local Bangla Shop got a pair of Small Block 8s  drool.gif
so the Q is stick or switch?  hmm.gif

SB8 2.1 user here. IMHO, it's not that fast rolling tire, on trail and tarmac. And it packs mud like nobody's business. Grip are ok as a rear tire with the right pressure. Try Maxxis IKON 2.2. Super fast rolling, grippier than SB8 and lighter with huge volume comfy tires.

I think JW stocks Ikon. The LarsonTT runs small, the Ikon is huge for a 2.2... LOL

Since we re talking about Tyres ...anyone here used Conti Mountain King II Protection Series? Not the cheap Made in India one...that one Im using ...apparently there is a big difference because the cheap one no Black Chilli ...

Kurang pedas ....

Want to know how good it is...

They say Kenda NeverGagal is good for Kiara but rolling resistance too high ...
*
I'm using MKII 2.4 folding. I think India made wan kua? Since it's not protection series. Got it from CRC. For me it's good enuf without BC compound for my use. Grip is almost parallel to Minion in my case and it's lighter than the Protection too! Was expecting the tire to be larger volume though. It's a comfy tire!

Maybe I didn't maxed out the potential of the Minions? laugh.gif

Been using for a few rides Schwalbe NN 2.1 folding Pacestar. Now that's a crappy tire. doh.gif

Friend's been swearing by it though, so one man's meat is another's poison?

Been wanting to go for high volume for the rigid bike, lucky for me a friend got a spare NN for me to test, otherwise $$$ burn lo. Funny it doesn't work for me as all reviews I read it's good.

I think for big mountain riding stylo like yours, Minions is one of the best but it's heavy. Maybe you could try ARDENT as well? Read that it grips and 2.2 is huge.

Don't think 2.4 is available locally though.

My friend's yellow 69er runs an front IKON 2.2. Volume does not match the 26er's IKON but he said the grip is gooding.

The On One is a rather big bike by any standards. The size 14 has a 22.5" Top Tube length. if i were to choose it has to be a size 14. The 16 and 18 is too much bike for our Asian height. The 16 has a 23.5' TT length. Unless you are 5 9 or 6' you cant ride a 16. Someone is selling a size 18 in BBS, that is too much bike even for a six footer.  The GEO is for a 150mm fork running 25% sag.
*
Looking at the 14" too for my height. Too bad it's 27.2 seat tube. But that might change in a few months down the road I heard... drool.gif

according to brant...a 27.2 seatpost is to provide a more compliant ride to the already stiff steel frame due to its burly design. I may agree to a certain extent but a 27.2 seapost is fairly hard to find nowadays. if u are ordering online, count me in we can save shipping costs.
*
At the moment looking at other options/waiting for the updated frame. I run an adjustable seatpost... cry.gif

I actually used NN before and MK2 now..I find both good...but MK2 when wet is quite sketchy...so overall Id give NN the slight edge ...but I think MK2 with Black Chilli might be better ...

Another thing that was obvious between NN and MK2 is the sidewalls of NN is stronger ...I ran tubeless and the MK2 were leaking the sealant at the sidewalls (bubbles coming out)....it took awhile for it to completely seal ...now its fine
*
I actually find the opposite on mine. What size NN and MK2 you're running? I tested both tubeless and both sealed up with no noticeable leaks.

Kaizer,
Do you kena tax for bring in tire from CRC? I though rubber products tax is quite hefty?

Nope. Personal importation of goods below RM500 including shipping is tax free.

Tires exploding from rims happens before from what I read. Especially with ZTR rims. Reason being, ZTR rims are made slightly larger than normal rims so that tubeless conversion of normal tires are easier and tubeless tires (UST and etc) are made slightly smaller to that it will seal well. So if you put a larger rim and a smaller tire together, chances are something will give. You're lucky you set it up with tube, not NoTubes Stans or your face will be full of white thick residue... LOL

Not sure with Nevegal but Schwalbe did mentioned on their website that it's not compatible with ZTR rims (but I do know a few guys who has that combo working well though)

Never remount a tire that has blowout. Chances are the kevlar beads has already schredded and accident waiting to happen.

The brake jam issue seems to be associated with heat issues and it seems like random case. I know one guy who's using SLX also have the same issue. Other's with different brakes brand also having the same thing.

It seems like the heat inside the car causes the fluid to expand. Leave the bike to cool down for while and all is well again.

Added on October 29, 2012, 6:56 pmOh, ZTR rims will also lost quite some spoke tension the moment you mount some tires on it and pump it up.

So the wheel builder is very important in this case. Say building up a ZTR wheels, if the builder tension the rims at the min tension, after the tire is mounted, the spoke tension will drop significantly low, causing weak rims and wobbles.

Either re-tension/re-true the wheels with tires on it or tension the spokes on the higher end of the allowable tension range. After that is done, the spoke tension varies much lesser between tire mounted and unmounted.

FYI, all rims' spoke tension drop when mounted with tires. Just that ZTR has the tendencies to drop more than others if not build right.

The guys are right. I bought a used bike at 1.5k. Ended up changing everything bits by bits.

If you insist, here's a link you can take a look at:
http://www.bicyclebuysell.com/#page=1&cond...t=81&discipline[]=1

Good thing about buying used is that the depreciation is lower compared to buying new. If you bargain hard, you might even score a good deal.

If the budget's below 2k used, here's something you can take note of:

1. Groupset, minimum is Deore
2. Some generic hydrolic brakes
3. Some big brands for the frame, although it's gonna be entry level models

For the rest of the bikes, generally you'll get crap stuffs or OEMs.

Depends on how you go about it. Most of the shop will advice you to go for new bike instead of upgrading bits by bits. I would like to share my experience with you all here.

I started with Proton T-bolt in 2008 where I got it for RM950. Full sus, carbon frame with Deore and LX group set. Tektro mechanical disc brake etc..

4 years later (2011) I decided to upgrade to hardtail frame. I went to KSH SS2 (Now Pedalspot) ask them for some good frame that is rugged and can support my weight (105kg). I don't really care if it's off season frame of new frame. Finally this Wong introduced my 2010 Merida Matts TFS 500 XC 6061 frame for RM1.3K. Immediately I knew I am attracted to that frame. I pay RM1.3K for the frame upgrade with SRAM X7 FD (T-bolt FD unable to fit into hard tail) and Jagwire Shifters cable.

Everything from T-bolt got transfered into the new frame include the seatpost as well. Later I started to ride with new frame. The feeling is totally different from riding full sus. I did a lot of upgrade in 2011 when I ride a lot (Almost every weekend!). 10 months later, I upgraded my fork to Rockshox SID 2011. I had to fork out RM1580 for the upgrade. Nevertheless, the ride is different.

I met my friend who bring me into Kiara for the first time. There onwards, I started to ride in Kiara, no other place else. Then, things changed, I know I need a bike that can handle trail in kiara while still maintain it for XC when needed. I decided to upgrade my cockpit to fit well with my body. I changed my stem to 90mm Thomsom with 620mm TITEC Carbon fibre flat bar. I forked out around RM600 bucks for that upgrade. Another week, I changed the grip to Ergon GX1 which cost me 35SGD.

The more I ride the more I enjoy it. I tried to upgrade my skill as well. Then I realize there's limitation in my cable disc brake. 5 months later, I upgraded my brake to Avid XO Silver 2011 brake. I realized that I get more daring when I knew I am in control with better brake. I try to go faster and corner more.

There's once, I had overlook the importance of wheelset and tire. I endo when I was riding 2K and crashed my biken twice on different occasion. Did some post mortem on the incident and realized that my tire had expired since the day I bought my T-bolt and there's some dent on my rim as well. I decided to upgrade my wheelset and tire. Hence I spent 680SGD on ZTR Arch EX + Hope Pro 2 Evo and 100SGD on Kenda Nevegal 2.35 + Kenda Nexcavator 2.1 setup.

Till today, when I look back the amount I spend on my bike. People would say you're crazy. Not to mention, I spend on Avid Pro Bleed kit, MINOURA wheel truing kit, bike repair tools, brake fluid, grease, fork oil etc. Do the math, for all the upgrade I did definitely cost more than RM6K easily.

My friend keep on asking me, how often do you use it? I would just smile and tell them, I will fully utilize the stuff I buy. Don't misunderstood that I am trying to show off what I had upgraded. Different people have different opinion. Most of my friend will just advice me go and get a new bike instead of paying so much for all the upgrade.
As you can see here, till today I still running my old T-bolt seat post, group set. After all these years, I still didn't' change my chain. I got a bike computer on my bike and it show's that my new frame already clock more than 700 hours of ride. Not to mention the group set is definitely more than that.

IMHO, biking is not just about upgrading the bike, but also upgrading your biking skill and the most important - enjoying it!

That's all forks! Just my 2 cent sharing!  smile.gif

If I'm not mistaken, you'll have to change hubs to go to 8, 9 or 10spd from a 7spd?
