PS3 = can get PSN account for Malaysia (this after getting blasah by a handful of gamers back in 2010), no forever alone.
360 = no XBL account for Malaysia, forever alone anyway unless your conscience allows you to lie to MS that you're Singaporean (a lot of ppl already blasah MS, but they're not giving in), and even that no convenience of buying online games using credit card, have to leave house to buy gamecard.

Fix'd tongue.gif Nowadays most games coming out are multi-platform anyway. It's the exclusives that drives the decision factor now. And even then Exclusivity is region-oriented. For example, FFXIII is PS3 exclusive in Asia/Japan only, other regions get the game on both 360 and PS3.

I have owned and experienced on both...In the end, I prefer Xbox 360 because of the control...I mean, the 360 controller design is good to me; it fits my hand nicely, has better grip and feels much better than standard PS3 controller..Some games I played have better control using 360 controller than PS3 controller...
with Kinect accessories, that's another reason why I like 360 much..Only bad thing about Xbox360 is 'need-to-pay-online-feature' a.k.a Gold Membership...

I don't think I wanna talk about the graphics or that kind of thing, but after seeing much of comparison, 360 looks better so far (played on HDTV Samsung)..but to me, I prefer constant frame-rates, no laggy gameplay than excessive bloom graphics..

I like PS3 as well because of its great exclusive games, features and services they had to offer on its console, and much better to offer than Xbox360, but I am a 'pick up and play' type of gamer, so sometimes I don't usually have time to enjoy some of those great features on PS3..
and back from what I first mentioned, I prefer steady, comfort control on 360...

In other words, try both first, then decide later...

I actually also own all. My biggest beef is that XBL not available in Malaysia. That means no online games in Malaysia, no buying games online when in Malaysia. Yes, you can lie. But getting caught can be a serious offense (I was caught for using Singaporean uncle's address by my mother. Kena marah teruk teruk and told to not support people who don't want our business, bla bla bla, and then forced to close the account).

And all those excuses I'm hearing about why XBL isn't available in Malaysia from various sources is just frustrating.

I'm opposite. I actually think American games are better (in fact, I hated how there are a few American games that was never released in Japanese market during the PS2 era). Even though PS3 is region free, I still end up buying US version anyway just in case (oh, forgot about this, PS3 is promised to be unconditionally region-free with games and mostly region free except for certain services (US version no iPlayer, UK version no Netflix, Asia version don't have anything). 360 is region-optional, publisher can choose to make game region free or region-code. Almost all the A-list games are unconditionally region-locked due to that).

My experience is different. PS3 can watch BR, music, photos. But streaming support sucks- it failed to handle certain types of codecs used in video files. XBL DLNA is just as limited as PS3's, but when you use MCE Extender mode, everything also can play provided you have the Media Player Classic filters and FFDShow installed on the stream server. Yeah, that's cheating tho.

Well, after my attempt to buy a game from TSB had me stuck in traffic jam when getting to SS2 and back, and my car almost blocked by pasar malam when I went to buy said game, and then experiencing Steam, I decided that I prefer to go through hassle to get games and prefer to buy online and download immediately, and then after experiencing PSN and Steam, decide that I prefer to pay for the game immediately using credit card.

I dun really like FPS games either, but there were a few platformers that came out for US PS2 that wasn't released in Asia region.

I do agree that the DS3 controller is a wreck of a design and needs a better third party design tho. SSFIV is difficult to play on it.

I'll make it easier on you by recommending PS3, the reasons being:

1. You can ditch the default PS3 controller for a Aimon, FragFX, XFPS, etc which is way better than the default Xbox 360 controller. Look at play-asia.com for a good priced FragFX. Be sure to get a play-asia coupon from LY forumers.

2. There are more 2nd hand PS3 game sellers than Xbox 360. Look at the LY Garage Sales section or Qisahn.com. This means old games are more likely to be available to you on the PS3

3. When the current gen consoles have run its course you'll at least be left with a blu ray player on a PS3

Of course, having said all that, I'm a proud owner of an Xbox 360 because I prefer its console exclusives, slightly better graphics rendering and far lesser game loading time smile.gif also, if you're OK with it you can mod your Xbox 360 console although I personally don't recommend this as you won't be able to play Xbox 360 games online

Well, rumor says that PS4 probably will only be unveiled later this year and will only go on sale next year. Hardware also less than flattering (seriously, x86_64 and not PowerPC like Cell? Why!?!). And of course still need to wait a few years for price to drop. And then there's the teething issues...

Yeah, still worth it to go for PS3 first.

What ElReg said. This year announce. Next year only release.

http://www.reghardware.com/2012/03/29/sony...r_2013_release/

Sos say to expect a surprise announcement on E3 2012, apparently Sony jelly after Nintendo announce Wii U and rush to build next gen PS (which probably explains the off-the-shelf components).

Also, they're rubbing off the numeric scheme (probably either to follow Apple Mac OS release and/or to avoid number 4): Instead of being called PS4, it's now called PS Orbis.

One more important note: Apparently it has anti-used-games mechanism to block second hand games. If Sony is avoiding the number 4 because they think it will mean their downfall, they're not thinking properly...

I am not that much into online games on console. I still think online games are better for PC games, like SC2, warcraft, counterstrike.

I am planning to get console for playing games arcade style. Therefore, I am looking to play games that involves kinect/move. Would also wanna buy those games with accessories like the guitar or drum tool kit, racing wheels kit, and definitely gun for pointing a gun at the tv to shoot monsters or something.

Which platform should I choose if I am into these type of games? I really like the house of the dead 2 games when I last played in in Sega dreamcast years ago.

Im planning to buy PS3 Slim or Xbox360 Slim this year. Im a fan of games genre like Action, Adventure and SP-Multiplayer Based Games. I like playing online games especially with family or friends alot.

My budget is very tight because im still a student and will use my allowance to buy games. I do make abit of money on internet every month. Im still in dilemma whether to get the modded consoles because the games are much cheaper. The downside is I cant play online with modded consoles.

Im still clueless of which to buy and what is the best console that suit me. Hopefully Sifu-Sifu around can recommend me and perhaps give me some good idea smile.gif. Thanks!

I already own a PC with 100+ games. Would like to give a try on some exclusive console games that aren't available on PC.

Definitely PS3 if you like online game. XBOX does not support Malaysian yet for on line game unless you use fake Singapore account. Need to change your local address to Singapore and use your credit card to become XBOX Live member. For PS3 is free.

Well, I agree with yayiyu here. XBL has no official support for Malaysia. Here's where it gets bad: XBox Live requires you to buy membership to play online (you can renew membership monthly, every three months, every 6 months or every year). No support for Malaysia means you cannot buy the membership using Malaysian credit card. Also, no Malaysian credit card support means cannot buy any games online for that matter. You can go look for shops that carry SG prepaid cards, but eh, inconvenient already, and it still doesn't work for certain games unless you tunnel using VPN (for some stupid reason, the XBL Arcade also implement IP check with some games and DLC).

Second problem: If get caught, very tiresome... My mother caught me using one of my Singapore uncle's address. Kena scolding for few hours, then forced to close account.

i got both, here's my opinion...

xbox 360 (modded):
pros:
- budget on games, u can try out lots of games for dirt cheap. u wont regret if bought the wrong games =)
- controller better than ps3
- got kinect system, very interesting game play
cons:
- no bluray
- cant on9 (but still can play wif few peoples in a single tv)

ps3:
pros:
- Woot! bluray!
- got many exclusive games only for ps3 (mostly jrpg if u like them =) [mostly xbox 360 games r available for ps3]
- got ps move/eye, very nice [something like Wii]
- can go on9, play games on9 if da games available for on9
cons:
- (if u r budget) only original games, so if u buy da wrong games, u r gonna regret for a month/maybe longer lol

well not much cons for ps3, only that if r in budget,u need to pay more for da original games, that's all. yeah the controller feel abit too ringan but its still playable. both r great consoles =)

well for u i think xbox 360, its the best for ur budget. games cheaper, xbox got lots of exclusive games like gears of war, bayonetta, ff13-2, etc...

u can play on9 games in ur pc, pc on9 games is still way better than those of consoles =)

well these r my opinions anyway, not the best, hope this will help u...lets listen to some others too

ps: ps3 can be modded too, but many new games still cant be played wif it & u cant go on9 too. be4 this i played modded ps3 too but now i had upgraded it to newest firmware cause lazy to wait for the custom firmware. cfw for ps3 for now is still very slow

for PS3, some games have demo versions in PSN/SEN where you can try them first. To me this is a good feature coz there are some games that i decided not to buy after trying out the demo.

Xbox Live also has this feature smile.gif

to TS, the key thing here is what game you wanna play. For example, you cant play GOW on PS3 and you cant play Uncharted on Xbox360

Uh, bro, what you talking about? The GOW games is a PS3 exclusive tongue.gif Everyone with a PS3 and PSP loves Kratos, right? tongue.gif

Anyways, XBox more mah huan to own for Malaysians. PS3 at least officially support Malaysians when online is concerned. Even if you can get your conscience to shut up about lying about your location (and also manage to successfully keep it secret from other family members), you have to do VPN tunneling for the sake of some games, and then you actually need to go out to buy membership card and game credit prepaid cards.

As mentioned before, I have all 3 consoles. But I somewhat feel that my 360 is a letdown by not having official Malaysia XBL support. It has a lot of awesome functions (MCE Extender and Kinect) and even some great JRPG/CRPG exclusive games. Just that too bad they dun let Malaysians play or buy games online officially.

X360 current heavily rely on XBLA exclusives. MS 2010-2012 lineup of games are mostly XBLA.

Heck this year 2012, lineup are 6 XBLA and 2 retail exclusives.

PS3 meet most of my criteria. Free online play, exclusive games titles (GOD OF WAR, Little Big Planet, Uncharted series) which i really want to try it out. The only thing still concern is the cost of bluray games. As i mention my budget is very tight cause i still studying. I could only buy 1 per month or most 2 if budget allowed.

No. buy 2 single player for every 1 multiplayer game. the multiplayer will keep u busy for up to 1 year. seriously. and the single player will keep me busy for 2 months (i play deep). so in 1 year i would have 8 single player and 4 multiplayer. which half of them i still be actively playing. should be more then enough unless u are a professional hardcore.

good question. this is actual. i have about 12 games in my possesion. the multiplayer ones are all bought new. the single player ones half of them i buy 2nd hand, some as low as 50rm. i actually have the ps3 for about 2 years already, but why i don't have 24 games? coz the old ones i don't play anymore i sell back. so how much i spend a month? well just do the maths. anywhere between 50rm to 170rm per month

Well RM50-Rm170 is quite good. I might buy PS3 Slim 320gb somewhere this year and get a game bundle with it.

Gow as of gears of war and not god of war i believe.

3 yrs back i owned a xbox. Kena ban wave. Sold

Last year, i bought another xbox again and now selling it back coz want to funds for star wars set. Somehow i cant get rid of xbox. I tried my friend's ps3 few times something felt awkard holding ps3 controller thus killing off my mood. Imeven bought xbox wireless controller for pc gaming. Must be kena bomoh with xbox controller already.

And for xbox live, its not difficult la to buy the gold membership. All codes can be purchased online now even 3 yrs ago i bought all the codes online and just redeem. No pain there., i dont know that there are still ppl who needs to go shop to buy that. But yes need to use fake singaporean acct. No need la put ur relative address just googleing random address will do. Like when creating japan xbox account or amazon fake us acct just to buy their pomotion items. Its not like microsoft will come home check ur address. Lol.

And things about xbox live gold, i believe u realize that xbox live is wayyyyyy much better than psn for a small fees. Play cod mw and all online games in xbox live with nooooo laaaggg but playing killzone in ps3 is wayy difficult. And major issue with psn hack and such. Its free so no complaint there.

However i have made bold decision to get xbox star wars set and ps3 320gb later. Ps3 community is huggeeeeeee and 2nd hand games are all over the market. Easier to trade and get games. Thats another + point for ps3

Haha , i never thought i would ever owned 2 consoles at the same time.
Cos i always think that 1 is good enough for me.

Until today... bought xbox and still having my ps3.

As mentioned earlier, i couldnt get rid of ps3 becos of the amount of friends i have in psn and plays online with me anytime anyhow i want.

Bought xbox just becos i wanted Dance Central so badly and never in my life , i wanted a game so badly haha. Was figuring out for past 1 month should i or should i not becos i wanted to save cost and means that i have to let go of my ps3 which i was quite reluctant to do it.

And so , decision made today and bought xbox today.

Yes buy the console that fulfill ur priority of games.

ironically, i like all my PS3 games and the free online gaming
But i Love Dance Central.

So my decision made. Get xbox , dont leave ps3 haha

Well, in the end, least hassle to own is the PS3 since it's fully supported in Malaysia and comes with full online service and official support, and oh, Built-in Blu-Ray 3D player. Also, playing online multiplayer is free.

But if you're willing to take some risks, getting a 360 and lying to it saying you're in Singapore is better for it's superior controller layout and Kinect, and the better Media Center Extender compared to Sony's rudimentary DLNA Client. Downside of that? Well, you must delve into the arcane world of VPN tunneling and routing if you want to buy certain games because MS got do IP check for some downloads. Also, must pay for online multiplayer, which is a PITA because cannot use Malaysian cards and must physically go out to buy gold cards.

And oh, 360 has region lock depending on the game publisher. PS3 completely doesn't have thanks to a boycott threat and a promise by Sony early in the development of the console. Most Malaysian 360s are Taiwan versions, meaning can only play games that the developer mark NTSC-J playable.

In the middle is the Wii- has official support in Malaysia, but no Malaysian Wii Shop- you must still lie to the thing and say you're Brazilian to get Wii Shop. Wii also has region lock, but Malaysia units are US models, meaning they play NTSC/UC discs.

My own opinion..

PS3:
Free online
large content games does not need to swap disc
Exclusive titles are more popular on ps3
Can play bluray dvd movies
controller fitted with rechargeable batt
expanding hdd is cheaper

xbox:
Online play hv to pay
recharge batt not included
controller design is firmer
large content games hv yo swap disc
most multiplatform games look bettet on 360
Hdd expansion is expensive using Ms official product

Im not rich but i dont like going tru the hassle of modded machines becos it makes u frustrated if one day u happy happy bought a game and happy happy wanna play it , but the game says ERROR this and that cos it is modded and cant run the latest games and needs u to spend hours finding solution just to play a game , trust me i wont wanna play the game by then and end up it did not make me happy instead Frustrated.

Been there done that before years back on other consoles.

So ........ that is y , i pay money to play a game , not to make me angry to play a game biggrin.gif

And, im a female not a man hahahahaha brows.gif

In the end tho, for me:

PS3:

Pros:
- Guarantee Region-Free for PS3 and PSN games
- Free online multiplayer
- Blu-Ray playback
- SEN store officially available in Malaysia

Cons:
- No full PS2 BC (Sony forces you to re-buy PS2 games from SEN to play your PS2 titles, and the choice of titles is crap)
- Sony unfairly remove features from the console if they feel like it (like slim PS3 has no PS2 BC even though they could've just carried down the software BC from the phat PS3 since it's all software)
- Main (DS3) controller design is dated and not ergonomic.
- only two USB ports!

360:

Pros:
- Excellent Media Player Extender software
- Good ergonomical controller
- Futuristic motion control with Kinect
- Full old XBox BC via software emulation.

Cons:
- HD optical media playback dead in water - 360 can only play back HD-DVD with an optional drive, which is dead and discontinued. MS did not add support for USB Blu-Ray drive.
- No official Malaysia support- meaning no XBox Live and no Store. Even if you lie, some store downloads are located on servers that check your IP address and block you if your IP address is from outside the store's country.
- Region-Locked.
- Need to pay to play online (assuming you get around Malaysia support by lying, saying you're Singaporean)

Addon:-

PS3
Good:
- good independent system for non gaming functions (if you dont have a PC)
- non-dependent on 1 party hardware, aka support 3rd party or clone hardware.

bad:
- lots of gimmick accessories and games that require you to purchase a certain hardware to play.
- most of old ported titles that are sold at $30-40.

x360:
- heavily rely on xbl for social network and gaming services
- plug and play for games and network devices.
- slightly better designed GPU, Multiplaform games usually scores well in this version.

bad:
-just another gaming platform, does not excel in anything else.
-only support 1st party devices and most of the connectors are unique (custom connectors) and some hardware is freaking expensive in MY.

I have both xbox 360 and PS3 since long time ago until now. But i prefer Xbox 360 over PS3 because this console have more good game and better xbox live compare to PSN. PS3 usually i used to watch movie for blu-ray and others download movies.

Some ppl like it some dont. Mostly casuals like it, cos it integrate well for XBLA games and 1st party game.

MGS and valve are always sour, they never once collaborated with both interest in-mind. L4d was pretty much the pitfall for valve release for that platform.

I m not really sure MGS deny licensing to valve as rumor stated it? all i know MGS is really b****y for 3rd party developers.

Well, I don't like it because of the old problem of no official Malaysia support. I've heard all sort of stupid stories ranging from Piracy to corporate infighting, and frankly I'm tired of it. Even Apple can sell music and movies in Malaysia now. Why can't MS just launch XBL in Malaysia and get it over with?!?

dude anyway you like, i heard the latest models of xbox & ps3 cant be modded YET. However, without mod, you have to pay for the online service for xbox, as for ps3 it is free. for better graphics, and if you prefer xbox's exclusives like halo etc etc go for xbox. ps3 might not always have graphics as good as xbox, but with hdmi i think it can still make it up, furthermore no subscription fees needed to play online and if you like their exclusives are : god of war nuff said. your choice. no fan boy shits from me.
