- i dont usually ordered plants. i only buy plants when the final main scape is finalized and the tank ready to be flooded.
- but since u already ordered all at once, then the next thing to do iss START SCAPING~ and do it fast.
- wood, while u bz with your soils and stones, let your woods soaked in a bucket of water (but this step not really necessary... just to prevent floats).
*
no need do anything to the soil? its ready to use out of the pack?

and the plants, i can put them in a bucket of water while im busy scaping right?

and how to tie moss to the wood? sorry for the questions, really my 1st time here sweat.gif

- yes, if u have those 5 elements and stuff bla bla bla.. put them first in the tank and then only throw those soils.
- ya.. for temporary, yes u can put them in a bucket of water.

You would need to cycle the tank firstĀ  smile.gif

QUOTE(usermode @ Mar 27 2012, 06:21 PM)
- dose K everyday since day one.
- Growth, err... if it's low tech then can also la..
- no fish. cycle ur tank first. google more on fishless cycle. (or u can put some 'sacrifice' fish like one or 2).
*
but my tank is not new tank, its being use now. i just convert it into planted tank. need to do cycle as well?

[EDIT] just noticed my moss is flame moss. same method of tying like the link above?

some plant. like anubias n fern, you need to tie to a driftwood n cannot plant it normally, or the rhizome part will rot n ur plant will die...

most plant, just plant it normally....

btw, hav anybody bought a pl-l lamp holder before? i cant seem to find it anywhere...
*
im gonna have anubias nana, narrow fern and flame moss

only moss i plan to tie to the wood. the others plant on soil

Added on March 29, 2012, 2:48 pm

you can plant it on a driftwood, n half buried ur dw in substrate....
*
meaning? i not sure how large is my driftwood yet. but looking at my tank size, its not goin to be big i supposed

actually i still can plant them to the soil, provided i dun bury the rhizome?

if u do like that...most likely ur fern would always be dislodged n floats in ur aquarium...the rhizome need something to clings on to...

i guess i need to use my creativity tomorrow. haven't received my stuffs yet

my only concern now is how large is the driftwood and where to plant the narrow ferns. moss decided to tie on wood. the nanas i will try to figure a way between the rocks and beside. narrow fern plan to use as background but duno what or where to tie them

if i attach the narrow fern to the driftwood i need to bury tht part of the wood or just leave it as it is?

if u dont want to tie the moss on the DW, u can tie with with mesh.
same as what Luqee do with his moss wall, IINM..

How to
*
my prob is not with the moss, because moss i decided to tie on dw from the beginning, its the narrow fern. i think i already made up my mind to tie both to the dw if i can find some space. moss on the top and front, fern concentrate on the back because i want it to be back ground

as for the anubias nana, will try to sandwich some between the rocks and try to tie to the rocks if i can figure it out. shouldn't be that hard as long i avoid burying the rhizome

that's the main point in this hobby, "as long follow the basics, no matter in what way... the nature will accept". hehehe..!! think 'outside' of the box.
*
now i know the basic is rhizome must not be buried. the roots MUST be in the soil ?

so far i never plant them in soil. roots or whatever all also not in soil. but if after some time they are the one deciding to dig by themselves.. then i jsut let it be (so far never occurs anyway). but tying to woods will make the roots hold more firmly in its position for a long time. whatever way, initial planting, everything need to be in water column whenever i plant fern/anubias.
*
so anubias moss fern wtv plants the roots oso not in soil? blink.gif

@Zen

Nice attempt n very fast also huhu

perhaps
u can flat the front soil to become one line
re-arrange the DW instead of all lying together
trim the long fern leave, new leave will grow nicer
cover the anubias rhizome with rock
re-arrange the rocks as well
maybe u done it too fast

For ess K u can push 1ml/2days mean every 2 days push the fert
plus ur plants are low demand type, u even can dose every 3 days
*
but i already set up all inside tank + filled with water now blink.gif

can i just put my hand inside and rearrange?

how to exactly trim the fern leaf?

about the light. do u guys switch it on 24 hr?

QUOTE(usermode @ Mar 31 2012, 12:56 PM)
- good thing about moss (tied to rocks or small wood), anubias and ferns, they area mobile. which anytime you can move here and there to suits your tank overall growth.
- means, u can just rearrange in ur tank. since it;s very newly setup tank. disregard the disturbance of the soil anyway. your tank is just one day old. just do WC or WIWO necessarily.

- trimming ferns, u cut the old and unheathy leaves near the rhizome. do this step also now. since u just bought it from LFS. before put in tank, make sure your fern is in good conditions.
- old leaves and unhealthy ones is a burden for the plant actually. they need to channel all the ferts not only for the needs of their new growth, but to those dying as well. take into account they arent like stem plants which absorb faster. this applies to nana petite and same family as well.
- the main part of ferns are their rhizome. as long there is one leaf minimum, the plant will NEVER Die!.. hahahhaa.. so dont be afraid to trim. it might makes it less attractive initially, but hey.. this hobby needs PATIENCE.. tongue.gif

- every of my tank have 2 types of lights. photo-period lights, and display lights. photo-period lights only turned on for my plants to use during daytime just for 6 hours. then at night for 2 hours, i turned on the display lights (lower watts and not really penetrating - normal aquarium lights).
- plants needs dark time to grow. the light time is to absorb and do photosynthesis. so they need light and dark like humans needs day and night smile.gif
*
ah so that means i just cut away the whole leaf from the rhizome? gonna do arrangement soon when im free
